About the author

Daniel C. McWhorter (“Dan” to everyone who knows him) is an avid reader and life-long science fiction and fantasy fan who has long dreamed about writing for a living. As is the case for many of us, the realities of life took him in a different direction and his dream was put on hold while he worked to achieve successful careers in telecom, software engineering and talent development. In 2017, Dan decided to leave corporate America and start writing. His first book, Restoration, was the result.
Dan lives in the beautiful mountains of North Georgia with his wife and three dogs. When he's not writing, he likes to hike, boat, fish and experience the exceptional beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If the weather is bad, you may find him online playing the current MMO flavor of the month or banging away on his Xbox controller. For more information about Dan and previews of his upcoming works, please visit www.danmcwhorter.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2018Move over, Asimov, Dick, Wells, Clarke and Bradbury!
There's a new contender, armed with 21st century I. T. and genetics acumen (and mind-blowing imagination), capable of mesmerizing a whole new generation of Sci-Fi devotees--and maybe captivating those completely new to the genre, while grabbing even jaded "veterans" of the genre by the throat!!
"Restoration" is Dan McWhorter's debut and, if it garners the readership it deserves, belongs on the N. Y. Times best seller list, then to movie theaters.
Drawing on his career background as a means of predicting, and expanding on (to an eye popping degree) what technology could do for (but more ominously, to) mankind in the next 50 - 60 years, Mr. McWhorter has constructed a thriller that just screams for a mega-budget Hollywood movie.
But, if it never gets to video, no real loss, because he knows how to project one onto the movie screen of your mind, as you devour page after page.
His plot development flow is fast-paced--not one "stall out", due to yawn-provoking, excessive character development, and boom!--twists you never saw coming.
In other words, this author doesn't mess around with his readers--he obviously believes in letting the plot drive the book, not the characters.
His main characters are so brilliantly thought out, though, that you're never really surprised that they are who he makes you blindly perceive they are--until they aren't.
So, for maximum enjoyment, go along with, but don't trust, the character presentations and think you have the story figured out, indulging in early conclusions. Just suspend your disbelief (if he doesn't involuntarily push that "off" button for you!) and let him pull you along for the ride.
That's all the clues I'll give about this book--anything more will diminish the considerable surprises and traps he's laid for you, as he "peels the onion", layer by layer.
WARNING: do NOT start this book on the night before a workday! You do so at your own risk.
The next thing you know, your alarm's going off, to wake you up from the sleep you never got, and a long, zombie-like day at work.
Schedule your read at a time when you could go for as long as 12 hours, or so.
This guy's prose will subtly generate energy beams up off the page, that lock onto, and hijack, your brain's impulse control section, making it almost impossible to do anything but turn the next page. Bladder calls and/or a rumbling stomach may not register strongly enough to pry your eyes away from the page!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2018Restoration was definitely a book I did not want to put down, and with work and life, I made time to finish this book in less than a week! I admit, I am a huge Sci-Fi fan, and this book did not disappoint! The things I liked most about this book included: the believable and sometimes terrifyingly believable scientific examples of what could become of our world, planet, and yes, solar system; the amazingly relatable characters that just completely drew me into the story; the absolutely brilliant twists I never saw coming; and the author’s ability to keep the action going leaving me wanting more at the end of each chapter. This is the most well written book I have read in some time, it is well worth the money spent, and I am hoping for another book to follow this one - SOON! If you are looking for an action-packed page-turner, all I can say is, BUY THIS BOOK! You will not be disappointed!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2019Science Fiction readers will find plenty to love in this intricately-plotted, lavishly detailed novel.
The author covers all the bases in imagining a civilization 60 years in the future. The technology of space travel, genetic engineering, and artificial intelligence are amazingly detailed and, to this reader at least, totally convincing. I found the politics and the motives of some characters a bit less convincing—or perhaps I just had trouble following them.
Despite a propensity for info-dumps, the plot barrels along with multiple viewpoint characters and plenty of action and surprises. The ending was completely unexpected but felt perfect.
All in all, a superior, piece of realistic science fiction. Based on this effort, I extrapolate a very fine future for this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2020Unique story that is futuristic and sci fi combined. Ending leaves it open for a possible sequel. I recommend to any who want to try a new author.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019This book had too many technical explanations and not enough character development in my opinion.
The story was rather disjointed at times and drifted back and forth between locations of the space vehicles and the supposed leaders. All in all I was disappointed with the entire tale.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2019Great story. Characters were very believable and definitely human. Scheming creatures that we are. Good scifi. Love it. Can't wait to get the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2019I received a copy of this from the author from a Goodreads Giveaway.
My first problem with this book is that the author seems to have an aversion to commas. So many places where there should have been commas.
Second, most of the book is information dumping. The dialog doesn't really feel like dialog, but rather just more info dumping, then we get to read it AGAIN...
The story line is good, in and of itself, but the execution is horrible. An good editor could help make this book so much better than it is now
