About the author

As an avid reader, I became a fan of Georgette Heyer's Regency novels, then started writing Regency romance novels as a hobby. I particularly enjoy writing about strong, resourceful women in an age where it was thought that women were incapable of taking care of themselves and couldn't own property.
Kindle e-books have allowed me to grow as a writer. With each novel, I have made mistakes, but I have learned so much along the way. I like to read reviews from my readers and am thankful that they take the time to critique my work.
I am currently retired in beautiful Port Royal, SC, with my husband and our dog Sally, happily working away on my next novel.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2018The story was well written and the storyline well defined. The author drew the reader in and kept our interest throughout the story as well as allowing us to experience her characters many emotions. The story had intrigue, suspense, discoveries, betrayal, love, and a happily ever after.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2021Margaret Bennett is a master storyteller and keeps the reader entranced until the end. The only critique I can make is the deplorable spelling errors by the ones who prepared this book for Kindle. It is most distracting and annoying. Quiet for quite, week for weak for an example; inattentive to detail, which is what their assignment demands. Otherwise, I am impressed with this author’s talent. I do highly recommend her books as a lovely clean read escape.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2013There were many enjoyable moments in this book and lovely scenes that made me sigh with happiness between the heroine and her hero. These kept me going. My main gripe is the thoughtless way this lady makes decisions. Intelligence should not go wandering when a young woman wishes to be independent. In fact, it requires logic and sound thinking to pull off that kind of lifestyle- this heroine didn't have any.
Her temper may have led her down the wrong path on more than one occasion but when she found herself in a difficult position, *recognized* help when it was offered- help that was obviously the right answer and *still* would not accept it I was disgusted. An independent feather brain isn't admirable.
And a pet peeve- her nephew came to her for help and was angered when things weren't sorted to his liking. He had some nerve. She went through a lot for him- I do admire her courage. She certainly deserved better in this quagmire than she got. Then again, her own foolishness should have led to much worse.
I did think the hero was swoon-worthy, though. The author did an excellent job creating an intriguing image of the gentleman and he never fell short. Although I was a little disconcerted by the amount of attention payed to fashionable wear- it would have been enough to say he was impeccably dressed...?
I agree with a previous reviewer- this story gives the impression that an independent woman needs looking after. How depressing.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2013If I had bought this book first I would never had gotten another one of Margaret Bennetts books. it started out fine but it was confuluted and way to long and got too involved
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2013What a lovely story!! The characters were well developed and most were enjoyable. The main character's brother on the other hand...Will certainly look for more books by this author.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2015a young woman living on her own during the 18th century with funds provided by her brother is en-route to parties hosted by her brother to find her a mate. Her independent thinking and action get her into lots of trouble that could have been avoided if she saw there help as not infringing on her independence.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing
I must say at first I wasn't too sure about this book at the beginning. I'm new to the historical romances preferring the Modern series but I took a chance. the first few chapters had me wondering if I had made a mistake buying this book and considered skipping to the end but I persevered and by the third of the book I was starting to like the book and the characters.
It was a refreshing change to read a book that's not loaded full of sexual references and cheating etc. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the erotic scenes of most Mills and Boons but it is also nice to read a book that just has a nice story to it rather than the typical tyrant throwing his weight around.
Amelia has a strong backbone and refuses to cower like most heroines and Wexley was very likable and met his match with Amelia. the added twist towards the end had me gripped to the end. I lost myself in the plot and I was sad to see the end of the book.
A book well written and I hope to find more books like this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing special
The story was ok and the main characters quite likeable. Ultimately the heroine's insistance of being independent just become irritating as she obviously can't resolve things alone. The outcome was predictable and neither the setting nore the romance were rivetting, but it passed an evening.
The biggest issue was some real howlers in the spelling, clam for calm, quiet for quite and mechanizations for machinations!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Independent Lady
This book is full of intigue and just as you think the story might be coming to an end there is a slight twist in the tale. It was an entertaining read but a little long winded at points.
