Member of the Paranormal Romance Guild Review Team This is the second book in the Out of Time Thriller Series, and we see our intrepid heroine Angela Renatus continue her adventures in art and time travel. This time the art of Caravaggio is the central theme. But don't think that means the story is limited in its scope.
The story takes the reader from Italy to Afghanistan to California. It sounds insane but, somehow, Belle Ami takes the reader back and forth through time and place with such skill, incorporating art, history, and mystery into the story. The narrative has depth and keeps the reader invested and interested to the end.
Woven into this already amazing tapestry is the romance between Angela and Alex Caine. The two come from two vastly different perspectives but when they work together their chemistry is so pure. There is no actual on page sex in this book but that does not take away from the romance aspect at all.
Belle Ami has given us all another gift in the form of a great book. I didn't think she could top the first book but she has proven me wrong. I can't wait to see what she does in the next!!

I love Renaissance art, but I must confess, like Angela Renatus, an art historian, I'm not overly fond of the work of Caravaggio. His works are dark and somber, sometimes close to being morose, a clear reflection of the passionate moodiness of the man who painted them. Angela and her art detective boyfriend, Alex Caine, have been enlisted to find a missing Caravaggio painting, "Nativity with San Lorenzo and San Francesco", believed to be stolen by the Mafia. Angela and Alex both have a psychic gift that allows them, through their dreams, to travel through time. It's not a controlled gift, but one that allows them to trace the painting's whereabouts at various times through its history.
Belle Ami's novel, The Girl Who Loved Caravaggio, is the second book in the Out of Time series. With a marvelous grasp and comprehension of the Renaissance world of art (not just the art itself), the author takes the reader on an exciting adventure in the seventeenth century and across the centuries up to the present day. Weaving a thrilling plot around a Renaissance painting and the artist, Caravaggio, the author writes in a very believable style that not only entertains but educates the reader. Although the plot develops at a fast pace like a mystery/ thriller, it is also a historical romance novel, complete with the exotic affair between Caravaggio and the very beautiful courtesan, Fillide Melandroni, who was not only the artist's muse and model, but his lover as well. The jumps through time are well presented with chapter headings to indicate in which time period the action takes place. The author has a detailed knowledge of both the Renaissance and the art work of this time period. A great read for both history buffs and art lovers. -- Readers' Favorite Book Reviews
Angela Renatus, art aficionado and world-class private detective, is different -- and she is not sure if being different is a curse or a blessing. Scouring the world for stolen and or lost priceless works of art, restoring collections for private collectors, investigating museum and gallery claims of theft and fraud, would be impossible without her visions. And Angela is reluctant to call them simply visions. She knows things -- intimate things that only the artist himself could possibly know. Now, with the help of Alex Caine, her fiancé and former Navy Seal, she will embark on the most curious and notorious art theft in history -- "Nativity" by Caravaggio. Will their investigation shed light on one of history's oldest unsolved mysteries, or will it reveal a depth of depravity Angela never knew existed?--InD'Tale Magazine
Belle Ami's book, "The Girl Who Loved Caravaggio", is second in the Out of Time series. In this newest installment, Ms. Ami takes the reader on a ridiculously entertaining, mind-bending expedition through space and time, never missing an opportunity to educate the reader in art history. She does this flawlessly, and is as much an artist as those she portrays. Ms. Ami seamlessly paints the reader into her canvas. There is the feeling of actually being in the interior of a Baroque church or tasting the ugliness of modern warfare. Never shy with her characters' sexuality, Ms. Ami demurs in this sequel, offering the die-hard fan scintillating innuendo, and the chemistry between her characters has never been more intimate or passionate. An absolute masterpiece one does not have to be an art lover to enjoy!
--InD'Tale MagazineUncaged Book Review: This is one of those books you want to keep reading and don't want it to end. It has multiple subplots, engaging main characters, a bad guy you can't help but hate and a love story which spans centuries. No, no, this isn't a huge tome, but it does take you from the 1400s to 2018.
Angela Renatus see visions of people from the past. When the story opens it is 1944 and you see a Sophia Caro and Gerhard Jaeger at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. Gerhard is a German who is an art historian and Sofia works at the gallery. They have a painting they believe is a da Vinci attributed to one of his students. They leave through the Medici secret passageway to the church to escape the fall of Florence as the Germans retreat. Gerhard takes on the name of Giorgio Bandini, an accountant from Piza.
The story jumps to 2018 Getty Museum. Angela is having a problem with her boss Angelo Scordato, the museum director, who is a lecher and is threatening her job as an art historian intern if she doesn't do what he wants sexually. Angela can't stand the man, let along having him touching her. She also believe she only dreams about the da Vinci and Fioretta Grini, Guiliano Medici, da Vinci and Lorenzo Medici, Sophia and Gerhard.
Enter Alexander (Alex) Caine who is a detective who hunts for lost or stolen works of art. He had been hired to find the missing Leonardo da Vinci painting of a wedding. This is where things get very interesting. Alex is unusual in that he has two different colored eyes. Angela looks like Fioretta and Sophia. Meanwhile Scordato believes Angela will lead him to the missing painting he was hired to find over a year ago but never found, only he wants the painting for himself.
As this story bounces back and forth from the present to the past, the history of the painting is revealed along with the growing love of Angel and Alex.
When I started this book, my first thought, was oh no, another time travel, but not even close. Angela has visions from the past where she becomes part of what happened and leads her to help put the ghosts to rest by finding what they are leading her to with the help of Alex. The past and the present merge at various points of the story.
Alex and Angela go from California to Florence, Rome and Paris and Montefioralle in Chianti. Along the way you learn a lot of history of the Medici period and the 1944 invasion of Florence. It was one of the most fascinating romps through history all tied up in a missing painting, engaging characters and a lot of mystery and intrigue. This is a book not to be missed. If I could give it more than five stars I would. Reviewed by Barbara.

About the author

I'm Belle Ami, and if you're reading this bio, then you may be a lover of historical fiction, historical romance, time travel thrillers with romantic elements, and romantic suspense because that's my passion, and that's what I write. I'm a #1 Amazon bestseller of THE GIRL WHO KNEW DA VINCI, THE GIRL WHO LOVED CARAVAGGIO, & THE GIRL WHO ADORED REMBRANDT - Books 1, 2, and 3 in the compelling OUT OF TIME SERIES—art thrillers with a time-travel twist.
Be sure to pick up a copy of my brand new historical fiction novel MONA LISA'S DAUGHTER, I believe this is my best book to date. A truly unique look at the maestro Leonardo da Vinci!
Historical Romance is a genre I've just begun to write, and I love it! My publisher, Dragonblade, is the cat's meow when it comes to historical romance. There is no publisher better or more supportive. My release of LUCK OF THE LYON (Lyon's Den Series) is quite a romp filled with challenges for my star-crossed lovers. I'm stoked to hear from my readers what they think of this new addition to my oeuvre. Be sure to drop me a note and let me know how you enjoy this book, because there are more historical romances coming!
My latest bestseller—a book set in World War II Poland and Germany—is titled THE LAST DAUGHTER. It is a completely revised and rewritten version of my very first book: IN THE FACE OF EVIL. The story was inspired by the life of my beloved and courageous mother, Dina Frydman Balbien, who was one of the youngest survivors of the Holocaust. Dina will turn 95 on June 20, 2024, and I cannot tell you how emotional I am that she is able to read this book. Thank you for making THE LAST DAUGHTER a #1 Amazon Bestseller since its release in June 2021.
I'm very excited about my new series, LOST IN TIME. Three time-travel adventures, LONDON TIME, PARIS TIME, and TUSCAN TIME. Take a trip to Victorian London and then Belle Epoque Paris, where murder and intrigue keep my heroines on their toes. The last adventure takes place in 1902 in the magnificent countryside of Tuscany.
I'm also very proud that THE GIRL WHO LOVED CARAVAGGIO is the Silver Medal Runner up in the 2020 RONE Awards and the winner of The Book Excellence Award. THE GIRL WHO KNEW DA VINCI is the winner of the 2019 RAVEN Award and is a 2018 Finalist of the Readers' Favorite Awards. THE GIRL WHO ADORED REMBRANDT is the Finalist for the 2021 Book Excellence Award and a 2021 RONE Award Finalist.
My romantic thriller series TIP OF THE SPEAR introduces my sexy Mossad hero in a trio of international thriller novels with romantic elements: ESCAPE, VENGEANCE, RANSOM, EXPOSED. I'm also a 2018 RONE Award finalist for ESCAPE. VENGEANCE is also the Gold Medal Winner of the 2019 Readers' Favorite Awards for Espionage Thriller.
My first novel was a finalist for a major book award and launched my writing career and I haven't slowed down since.
When I'm not working on my next book, you'll find me in the kitchen whipping up something delicious for my family to enjoy. In addition to gourmet cooking, my passions include playing classical piano, kick-boxing, skiing, and travel. I call Southern California home.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2023I read one of the author's other books, and that took me to the next in the series. Michelangelo Caravaggio was a man of passion, incredible talent, and trouble. I would read at night and then the next morning search for his art. His painting "Nativity" was stolen in 1969 and is still missing. This book involves reincarnation, the search, history, and two loves. I recommend this book to lovers of reading, art, and truly unique romances.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2019Caravaggio has always been my favorite artist. It took me awhile to read the book because every time a painting was mentioned, I would look it up to refresh my memory. The writing moved along at a great pace and I felt the characters were well developed. Hopefully, there will be another book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2023The book had the energy and emotion of a modern story rather than a stuffy historical novel. Looking forward to reading another book by the author— the girl who loved Rembrandt. FYI the book arrived shortly before I broke my arm and it’s been a wonderful distraction🙃
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2020Suspenseful and full of art history with a touch of paranormal this book was exciting to read. The lovers, Alex and Angela, have an interesting life and I loved following Caravaggio 's last days. The secondary characters really added to the overall enjoyment of the story. If you like intelligent romantic suspense novels then this book may be for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2021I'm half way through the second book in "Out of Time Thriller Series" and am finding it better than the first in that there is less explicit sex and more plot angles--more questions about who ARE the bad guys. Also, Alex has dropped calling Angela "baby" and is now using "amore mio" as his term of endearment. I REALLY appreciate the change. Thank you Ms. Ami.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2020After reading the first book in this series ,I was excited to start this title. But I am a little confused. The artists name seemed to me to be about the artist Michaelangelo. But I had never heard of the correct artist. But I did a little research like a librarian should and cleared it up. This book was very educational as well as enjoyable. I am ready for the next artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow History With Passion
Terrific story, time travel, history and a romantic thriller.Lots of twists and turns and fabulous story. Set in modern day Italy with history and vivid descriptions I didn’t know much about early Italian painters so for me it was educational but it was a really good book.I will recommend to my friends and definitely buy more of this writers books.
