- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2017This is a wonderful story of love and forgiveness. The lives of a group of strangers intersect, and they find themselves bound to one another because of a single person: a young boy by the name of Bobby. Bobby is a quiet orphan who has been bounced from family to family. When he finally finds a home, he is able to come to life again. However, people from Bobby’s past---people he doesn’t even know---suddenly surface and interrupt the normalcy of his home life. Will he be able to forgive them? More importantly, will they be able to forgive themselves? I really enjoyed this book, and the characters are memorable and relatable. This is a must read.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2018It has a different voice. Even a different cadence.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2023Author Casey Bell delivers a phenomenal story in his book "A Family of Strangers". I was drawn in immediately with his storytelling skill. The storyline is engaging and the book is very well written. The is a heartfelt story of adoption, love, and the hurt that goes along with adopting and giving up a child. Really unique story. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2017Written by Renee Kelly: The speech patterns of the characters threw me off a bit as they didn't seem to have a natural flow. Conversations seemed entirely too formal for every day talking. The premise of the story was not bad but a bit difficult to believe in light of every day situations. The story's heart was in the right place - even for someone who places no stock in religion.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2017Forgiveness is never easy, even when it involves small things. When someone has done much worse, to the point where multiple other people can or have been hurt, it can be even tougher. How do we forgive when everything and everyone tells us not to?
In A Family Of Strangers, Casey Bell covers this area with a tale of adoption and family. William is a worker for an adoption agency. He adopts a boy named Bobby after he has been returned by foster parents numerous times. Slowly, the boy learns to accept him and they are happy. Soon, the boy’s mother shows up and wants to begin a relationship with him. We learn that she was assaulted years earlier and had no choice in giving up her son for adoption.
Wanting to meet the man who assaulted her, she starts talking to him in prison. After learning that he also grew up being abused, and accepting that he is reformed and remorseful, she forgives him and starts to visit him as a friend. When he is released from prison, she convinces him that he also needs to meet his son.
This novel tackles tough issues that that many are faced with. Will Bobby want to know the truth about his mother and father? Is it in his best interest? Will William understand and accept a new family for his adopted son? The book raises the issues of abuse, faith, anger, and forgiveness. An interesting book and worthwhile reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2017A Family Of strangers by Casey Bell for me is a five star read
Truly remarkable story telling. I have fallen for this author's writing and cannot wait to devour the next book.
The characters were truly inspirational and the storyline was compelling.
It is amazingly intense and the author prepares you for the journey for you to take alongside the characters really well. The characters and story development were perfectly done. This book was extremely well written and has fast become of my favourites. This book was full of many twists and turns that will keep you guessing what is going to happen till the very end. I devoured it in one sitting. Incredible work!! I absolutely adored reading this book and will be one clicking the rest of this authors work.
I felt every emotion portrayed in this book. I will definitely be recommending this author to everyone I know.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2023A Family of Strangers is truly a wonderful story, heartfelt and rich with surprises, gravitas and grace. Conflicts among characters continue to build and create a constant tension that is then remarkably resolved in cascading grace that flows almost effortlessly from one character to the others. From the heart of a mother who has found a lost son, once a broken hearted victim of abuse and worse who discovers. the healing power of forgiveness.
This story is the core of a great novel, yet unadorned by vivid scenes, character complexities and written in an almost awkward and innocent cadence. This is a story driven by heart and circumstance. The story reminded me of the “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers in its rich spiritual awakening among characters, rising supernatural will and growing powers of forgiveness.
If written in a more comfortable tone, blended into rich meaningful settings, meaningful swirling back stories, this work has the plot of a best seller!
I stumbled with the writing a little at first but then was quickly carried away by the powerful story that brought me to tears over and over, and drew me into a transcendent compassion and growing empathy for the struggles of life we all face and the humbling awareness of how easy it is to judge and avoid the plight of strangers outside of a divine perspective or the refinement of a human soul.
