About the author

DONALD D. ALLAN is an award-winning author for the New Druids epic fantasy series. He is best known for his knowledge of just about everything – just ask him, he’ll tell you. He takes being a geek to massively huge geek levels – like level twelve. That’s pretty high. Mostly, he’s an introvert pretending to be an extrovert and so far, he’s fooling everybody. Wine helps.
He loves lying around and planning his next activities, such as yard work, house repairs, cleaning, cooking, etc. He plans a lot, but never really completes it. But planning is everything. He does complete novels though, and that surprises most people. They say “YOU wrote a book?”
Donald lives with his wife Marilyn, son James, daughter Katherine, and dog Woody, in Ottawa, Canada. Yup, he’s Canadian. Respect.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2019Cill Darae is the story of what happens after the ‘happily ever after’ – and I loved it. The first four books in this series dealt with the classic story arc of the origin story of heroes and how they fought to overcome the ‘big bad’. But what happens after the oppressor is defeated and you have to deal with actually living in this new world that you created? Life becomes hard. There are no obvious choices. Former main characters slide into the background as others move forward to progress the story. Donald D. Allan has skillfully handled this world transition in Cill Darae. Donald takes time to explore characters as they learn to adapt to post “dark vs light mote” world. Where people are no longer forced to conform to ideals, but can make their own choices – and use the power of the "neutral" motes to enforce their personal agendas. Cill Darae gives us a view of into the nature of mankind. A view that at times I saw as all too real. A great read for science fiction readers and anyone just loves a good story. Two thumbs way up!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2019The last of the evil rule has been stamped out, Brent Bairstow is now running the country the future looks bright for the country at least until Edward can be crowned king but Brent is struggling he did not want to be involved with politics .
He was becoming too religious after his last encounter with god and started to put to much faith in the church of the new order ,the vicar Eylene was influencing him which was becoming his downfall as the evil vicar was up to no good and with the help of Lana and Kennit the country was in turmoil and people started to distrust his rule.
Also the Draoi started fighting against themselves and kennit influenced Will so much that Will and Nadine were cut of from each other.
Katherine , Dog Heather and James got captured and put in jail so now the balance of good and evil was worsening...….but they escape and things start to look up cannot wait for next book .
This book will not let go such is the power of the Author his Magic words and story will completely take over your body until you have finished reading and then keep you wanting more.
What a fantastic series so far I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2019With Volume 5 of his "New Druid" series, Donald D. Allan has presented us with another outstanding success! Just when you are led to believe that the good guys have won, and Belkin will be in for a time of peace, the author reminds us that the lust for power within the hearts of men and women is all corrupting. General Bairstow, despite being a good general and leader of the military, is inept at governing a nation. The Church leadership reveals corruption at the highest levels. The Druids become fractured, with turning to the "dark side" and siding with the Church leadership. The Freamhaigh himself is compromised and of no use to anyone. The few remaining faithful in the Church are driven out, persecuted, beaten and left all but dead. There remain rays of hope, despite the gloom. The author weaves all of this together masterfully, and like all his books, once I start reading them, they are difficult to put down. He also makes you stop and ponder, "Where would I be in this world?" Part of the corrupt? Part of the faithful? A better leader? And there remains the motes..... but that is for you to find out!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2019Cill Darae, book 5 in the New Druids series proves to be another brilliant achievement for Donald D. Allan. Full of twists and turns to keep the reader totally engrossed and a new character in the form of a religious cleric aspiring to become the next Archbishop whose sole aim is the achievement of power and control at any cost, contributes greatly to the magnetism of Cill Darae. This is an epic that comprises the legends of the Druids, their elemental magic and lore against the backdrop of the era they existed in. Cill Darae has a magnetism all its own, enhanced by rich and enchanting characters, It is original and wonderfully evocative. In short, it is engrossing, spectacular and beautifully written. I loved this book and found it very hard to put down. A definite must for Fantasy lovers.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2019I love this author and I love this series. Mr. Allan weaves a great tale about the druids. In each installment we are teased with just a bit more about where their powers come from. A fascinating read which leaves you thinking about the book long after you’ve read the last page.
