- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2019I know I consistently give Mr. DeLeo five stars, but what else can I do for books that speak to me. I like strong character-driven stories with great plot lines. DeLeo’s characters are strong self-assured men and women who know what they believe and act on it. In this latest in his Cantelli series (Shadows of Horror), Cantelli’s grandson, Jim, has a much greater role in the story, which is great. I mean, why introduce such an important character at the age of 12 if you aren't going to bring him into the story more and more as he grows.
The relationship intrigues among the younger characters combine with the patriotic, nationalistic hearts of the other characters to create a suspenseful, racing story that ends way too soon. But then, his stories would be too short at three time the length, so that is not a criticism but a lament. The good news is, I know DeLeo will be bringing out another great story in just a few months. It’s as if the stories in his brain just come pouring out for all us pulp fiction, action junkies to drink like a slurpee on a hot August afternoon.
If you love America and are as tired of PC as I am, I can’t recommend this book highly enough.
Keep up the great work, Bernard.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2019Another great read by Deleo. Spoiler alert.
This one starts with Rick, Lo and Jim in the woods headed for a cabin. The cabin is owned by a man Gene Weston had killed. Weston is a serial killer who was caught red handed after drugging a young woman. The Judge released him and Weston killed the young lady and disappeared. Of course it didn't take Lo, Rick and their crew long to find him. Justice will be served.
Lo and Rick were tasked by Floyd Randolph, the FBI director, with getting the killer. Jim is along to hone his skills. Jim is one capable young man and Stacey and Rick are proud of their grandson. Of course Jim has lady troubles. Maya is a stunt double on the movies Jim, Temple, Trish and Karen have made and is a few years older than Jim but he and Jim have a friends with benefits scenario going on. Neither wants a serious relations ship and the sex is great. Leigh is a teenager like Jim and wants sex with Jim. But Jim just wants to get to know her before things progress. Its a scenario Leigh doesn't like one bit. Jim should get rid of her because she will be nothing but trouble. El, Jim's handler does all she can to stir up trouble between all involved.
Right now Lo and Rick do get their guy. A guy who will never make it to court. Rick and Lo get the info they need about where his victims are buried and how many there are. Rick delivers the kill shot. The stuff they use won't show up in any tox screen. Once its done the three contact Randolph and he tells them a chopper is on the way and the team on the chopper will handle what needs to be done.
Once back in San Diego they all get ready for Casablanca Night at their favorite restaurant. Of course Rick can expect problems because problems always seem to find him when he's trying to relax. Once at the bar the Kull, Rick's pit bull dog growls low and deep. Rick looks over and spots a man wearing a red sequined dress. Oh brother he thinks. A transgender idiot who will want to use the ladies room. Of course that won't happen.
So begins one damned fine read.
This one has Rick, Lo, Jim, Kull, Stacey, Chief Staley who Rick wants to run for mayor, the current major who is doing all he can to get Rick and Lo arrested, Trish, Sam, Bone, the rest of Rick's crew, Temple, Leigh, Maya, Jim's female problems, the death cult, the New World Order, death, destruction and Rick Cantelli and Lois Madigan doing their best to stop the bad guys, save as many as they can, survive and stay alive.
Five Stars. One great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2019Continues the development of gangs, illegals, new world order, and "islam mutants" destroyong the fundamentals of american way of life. The issue and problem of gun control is complex but these stories promote the historical facts that personal responsibility and weapons are our last resort to protect home, family and country. Those who choose terror foreign and domestic do not have rights over law abiding citizens. Bullies should not be tolerated and appeasement only benefits the winner. Teddy Roosevelt had it right WALK SOFTELY AND CARRY A BIG STICK. Military power is a tool of resolve and must be beleivable to be useful.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2019You wouldn't think these two old geezers could hold up under the strain, but they provide non-stop action with style and grace. Rick and Lois hop from one threat to the next with precision moves to shut down the enemy.
They are training Jim and he is an excellent pupil. In this episode, Jim is included in several assignments. He steps up to the plate with confidence and skill, proving that he is truly a chip off the old block. Ellen is excellent as his spotter.
There is much teen angst drama with four young women vying for one young man, which had me wondering if someone would have to leave. Jim's love life is way too complicated for a guy his age. Perhaps he should trade his aftershave for catfish bait.
Another movie is in the works and the drug cartels are not happy with the chosen location. Needless to say, there are fewer protesters at the end of the day. Other threats come from ex-boyfriends, Islamics stockpiling weapons, hired guns sent by government officials, and the NSA. Will they never learn?

- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2019Once again fans of Mr. DeLeo Will not be disappointed,. I would be very happy if it were possible to spend even 30 minutes talking with Mr. DeLeo as his books have grabbed my attention to the point where I purchase new releases as soon as I see them listed .
I know it's pulp fiction, but his grasp of what is happening in our country and making it recognizable makes the stories much more realistic. His work should be on the reading lists of all who want to see what is happening here turned around even if for now it's only in works of fiction.
Thank you Mr. DeLeo for another evening lost in your storytelling and a need to recharge my Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic with a touch of humour.
I continue to be amused by Mr Deleo's writing. It appeals to my overall sense of the current world.
