Vampires and shifters and time travel... Oh my! This book has it all! A sassy, spunky heroine that doesn't give up, a handsome vampire pirate captain whose smoldering looks set Ember ablaze, and a megalomaniac villain... What more could you ask for? ~ ★★★★★ (An Amazon Reviewer)

I could not put it down. I need more. The characters are engaging, the storyline orginal and the mystery of it all just draws you in and won't let you go.~ ★★★★★ (An Amazon Reviewer)

What a highly original take on this genre! ~ ★★★★★ (An Amazon Reviewer)

The Time Traveler’s Magic is an amazing follow up to Anna Applegate’s first foray into the Magic Bound Saga after the prequel novella The Time Traveller’s Awakening in the Souls and Shadows collection. I was hooked on Ember and Rane in the novella and was eager to continue to read about them. This book did not disappoint. Ember rejoins Rane without her memories, much to Rane’s displeasure, but they overcome their obstacles, fight their enemies across centuries and grow closer. Ember is a strong female lead as she learns her powers, discovers a shocking secret about her past and regains her memories. Rane is everything I look for in a male lead. Plus, he is a vampire pirate, two of the coolest things ever. He is charming, funny, witty and his feeling for Ember are present in everything that he does. Their interactions are full of tension and heat, their bond intensifying and it leaves you wanting more. I love Rane’s sense of humor and he is one of my favorite book heroes that I’ve read in a long time. I am happy the series will continue, although the cliffhanger at the end left me wanting to read the next one immediately. I hope the next one comes quickly!

Nice plot. Well written except in a couple of areas where the story jumps. First using “Miles” and then “Finn” (same person) but going back to reread three times. The name tag of “Finn Miles” would have been nice. Going back in time, forward in time, became confusing to keep up. The dates were there. The story could have been smoother. However, it is an excellent plot. I gave four stars instead of five because at times, it was hard to follow.

3.5 Stars, because the first half of the book was just horrible and annoying.

For me, I almost put this book into my DNF pile, because the female lead was annoying. I think she was supposed to be in her twenties, but was written to act like a dingy sixteen year old. Also, this book reads like a YA book, which was also disappointing. The male lead, Rane, pretty good.

Okay, so the good..... Around the 55% to 60% mark, is when the book started getting way better, after Ember found out what she was. The time travelling/jumping, dialogue, and the development of the story, became more interesting, and I found myself really getting into the book. There was plenty of action, and Ember's character was beginning to be written a little better; although she still had a little impetuous feel.

I enjoyed the interaction between Ember and Rane, and I liked Destin's character too. The world building is good and believable, I just wish the first half of the book was as good as the second. I wanted to reach inside the book and give Ember a good talking too.

Overall, if you can stay with it through the first part, you'll love the second part. I really want to see when this goes with Ember and Rane. There is a tension between the two, as they are adults, but only kissing is described, and there is no cussing. I do recommend.

I love this series! I read the prequel first in Souls and Shadows (I think it's a must!), and Time Traveler's Magic picked right up from there. Ember has a long road ahead, learning of things, memories that were taken from her, but in the end, she becomes the Ember we know and love from the prequel. And Rane... swoon-worthy vampire pirate. What's not to love? Think, 'Once Upon a Time' and Captain Hook. Holy yum!
I adore this storyline of time travel, vampires, and pirates... this series has it all! You don't want to miss it.
Make sure you grab the prequel in Souls and Shadows. The backstory is there... you'll love it!
    Can't wait for book two!

Not your typical vampire romance. I was actually intrigued by the time travel aspect but, discovered the added vampire paranormal and I was hooked. Along with the great story with soon to be discovered romance. After the cliffhanger , I'm on to the next book in the series!

I thought the author did a great job on this book. She made everything come to life with no dull moments. Such a great read with so many twists and turns

One of the greatest challenges in a time travel book is continuity, and this book failed that out of the gate. The third person narrative from Ember's POV knew Dr Miles was named Finn before she did. No one actually told her his name, but then it was accepted as her knowledge for the rest of the book. Similarly with Rane's last name.
It doesn't make sense that Rane assumes her memory was modified, rather than just encountering an earlier version of herself. Maybe there's some requirement she only travel to more recent times with each visit, but if that's the case, no one tells the reader and Rane has no reason to know that, either.
There are many other things that are said in the book that don't make a lot of sense.
And far from the least offense,Ember is one of those heroines that make the reader want to cry. She makes impulsive, nonsensical decisions and has no skill to back it up. She's completely reliant on others to do stuff for her. Yet we keep getting told how strong she is.
She is supposed to be one step from being an MD, yet she does nothing particularly intelligent nor does she utilize her medical skills when she or others are injured.
The story could be interesting. The relationship between her and Rane, despite it's unbelievable G rating, could hold some reader interest if we cared about her. But sadly, it's an overall fail. I will not be reading the rest of the series.

The Time Traveler’s Magic is Book One is the Magic Bound series by Anna Applegate. I really enjoyed Ms. Applegate’s Ariya Adams series, so there was no question of if I was going to read this book. I just snapped up a copy, and dove in to see what the story was all about.
This really is a wonderful paranormal romance- with time travel, action, adventure, vampires, shifters, pirates, magic, drama, mystery, and more. There are so many fantastic, original, and surprising details in this story- I was hooked right from the first chapter. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series to find out what happens- especially after the way this book ended.
The characters are well developed- with their own personalities, quirks and flaws. Ember really frustrated me, and I wanted to shake her a lot of the time. I loved Rane- he’s definitely my favourite in this book. I can’t wait to find out where this series will lead in the future instalments, and watch these characters grow and develop as the stories unfold.
A great start to a new series!

    Thank you, Ms. Applegate!
