If You Give a Smuggler a Secret: The Hart Trilogy-Book 1 (Pirates & Petticoats Historical Adventure Romance) Kindle Edition
If You Give a Smuggler a Secret He’ll Demand a Kiss to Keep It
A defiant English lady scheming to escape a gilded cage,
An American smuggler entangled in a web of shadows,
A brotherhood of pirates thirsting for revenge.
It’s the perfect storm.
*NOTE: This is the *sexy version* of the novel *The Heart of a Tempest* (Book 1 of *The Hearts of Adventure Sweet Romance Series* by Chloe Flowers).*
When their worlds collide, more than sparks will fly…
Charleston, 1811—a city of glittering high society, shadowy backroom dealings, and treacherous waters.** Keelan Grey masters deception—until a roguish captain unravels her charade. He sees through every practiced smile, every carefully crafted lie. Now he holds the power to destroy her…or claim a dangerous reward.
But what does a man of shadows demand from a woman who must keep her secrets?
The moment Captain Landon Hart sees her—blade flashing in the dawn light, defiance blazing in her eyes—he knows Keelan Grey is no ordinary debutante. This tempest in silk skirts challenges his cynicism and threatens the walls guarding his scarred heart. Yet the closer he gets, the deadlier the secrets they uncover.
From the instant she catches his steely gaze, Keelan senses the danger in Landon. With an assassin hunting her family and a despicable suitor closing in, she can’t afford distractions—least of all a smuggler whose touch ignites a reckless hunger.
What will happen when their darkest truths collide?
Now, as shadows close in—an assassin picking off her bloodline, a leering groom waiting in the wings—the last thing she needs is a magnetic outlaw unraveling her plans…and awakening forbidden desires.
When dangerous secrets intertwine and passion flares, will their collision save them…or destroy everything in its wake?
Perfect for fans of enemies-to-lovers romance, high-stakes adventure, and unforgettable historical settings.
Fall in love with the Hart Trilogy, where spirited characters, heart-pounding action, and wicked villains collide in a story of love and adventure that will leave you breathless!

About the author

~Awarded 2018 Writer of the Year by Akron University's Wayne College~
Chloe Flowers writes small town contemporary women’s fiction, and historical women’s action and adventure romance novels about scoundrels, pirates, and spunky, independent heroines.
Chloe is also a beekeeper. She names her queens after the flowers painted on their hives. Her pets have always been named after her favorite characters or action heroes: Indiana, Luke, Gimli, Thelma, Rocket, Forrest, Al Giordino, Severus, Mushu, Mérida, Gibbs, Jack…Dead Pool (he’s a goldfish).
Chloe’s biggest fault is the apparent inability to say “no” whether it’s in response to a call for aid or a double-dog-dare to hike home through 30 acres of a snow-covered forest at midnight…during a full moon. It was early morning during said adventure when she came upon a group of sheriff’s deputies searching for a lost girl. So, of course she offered to help (turns out, they were searching for her).
She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, Northeast Ohio Romance Writers where she served on the board in 2020, RWA Contemporary Romance Writers, The Beau Monde Romance Writers group, where she served as secretary 2017-2019.
She has given workshops and presentations on creating a critique group, how to provide effective critiques, story structure, marketing and self-publishing lessons to writers groups, library patrons and school children.
Chloe has a weakness for good red wine, Calvin & Hobbes comics, pie, dark chocolate and brown-eyed guys with beards, which is probably why she digs pirates, men in uniform and treasure hunters and writes about action and adventure and of course romance, which is the greatest adventure of all.

READERS who like American historical romance, women's fiction or ACTION & ADVENTURE mixed with HISTORICAL ROMANCE, pirates, sailing ships, sea adventures, independent heroines who fall for dark, tortured brave heroes, will enjoy the Pirates & Petticoats series about strong women and the scoundrels who fall in love with them.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2019The writing is delicious; it transported me to every place in the story. As Keelan and Landon’s relationship went through its ups and downs, I was right there with them. They’re now real people to me.
I couldn’t put this book down. It’s my first book written by Chloe Flowers, but I’m definitely getting more (the next one in the series, today!). I heartily recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2019I received this arc some weeks ago but I learned then this book was not a standalone.
But now I have finished it, I can say even if it does not end with a HEA, the HFN is satisfying, and can stay there.
At first I rooted for Keelan predicament, it was like she was living in a rat nest with everyone around her in want of a piece of her. Her hoyden side and impulsiveness attracted me, then the more the story unfolded, the more I came to dislike her, sure she is young, and faced hurtful issues sometimes ago but it does not excuse her scheming personality, ready to use others to reach her goal even if it may hurt them.
Worse, she reproaches to other her own misdeeds, when she uses people’s feelings to achieve her purpose and hurt them on the way.
So haughty, conceited and judgmental, she even lied to herself and others, blinded by her pride to see what was right in front of her.
I do hope she will evolve for the best in the next books.
Landon is a nice man, he has his fault and flaws, and was betrayed previously. Whatever he plays less games than Keelan, older and wiser, he is also conflicted with his growing feeling for the scheming Keelan. If not for him and his rakishness, I might have at time gave up my read.
It was an okay read for me, 3,5 stars.
I was granted an advance copy through Netgalley but I also own a own copy. Here is my true and unbiased opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2019This story has it all, suspense, passion, machinations, and action. I loved everything about this story Keenan kept making decisions on what she believed instead of actuality. Landon is a larger than life character. I can’t wait to read If You Give a Rake a Reason
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2019Best series I've read in a long time! If you love historical fiction, action, adventure andromance, this series wont disappoint. It has it all, and keeps you hanging to the last page (& by then, you're hooked and eager to read the next one!)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2019We start with a Lady Keeland Grey trying to get out of an arranged marriage her father is trying to force on her to a vile plantation owner. Her family is being killed off one by one. The she is caught practicing with a sword in one hand and a knife in another by Captain Landon Hart. The a very attracted to each other and their characters are very fun and engaging. There is a very good plot but as it’s going along really good and you thing you’re going to get some answers everything stops and you have to buy another book. I was given this book by Hidden Gems for an honest and freely given review.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2019I received a free ARC of this novel via Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review. That being said, my opinion is my own.
I had read the previous clean version of this story and enjoyed this one a whole lot more. That plot is really engaging throughout the entire novel. My only gripe about the whole thing is that the book is not a standalone and should be advertised as such. To get the couples whole story you need to read four or five books.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2019If You Give a Smuggler a Secret by Chloe Flowers makes you sit on the edge of your seat with bated breath for our heroine to choose.... but she can't make up her mind! And the hero should help her by grabbing her and kissing her senseless! 😇 Alass the drama, excitement, suspense, heated looks, shy smiles and the twist and turns of the game of romance and finding a happy ever after would be gone! This story hooks you from the start and keeps you turning the pages!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2019This is not a story in itself, you have to get the next book in the series to find out what is going to happen. Not really a cliffhanger. Other than that the read was good.
