About the author

Bestselling author M.J. Schiller is a retired lunch lady/romance-romantic suspense writer. She enjoys writing novels whose characters include rock stars, desert princes, teachers, futuristic Knights, construction workers, cops, and a wide variety of others. In her mind everybody has a romance. She is the mother of a twenty-two-year-old and three twenty-year-olds. That's right, triplets! So having recently taught four children to drive, she likes to escape from life on occasion by pretending to be a rock star at karaoke. However…you won’t be seeing her name on any record labels soon.

Trapped Under Ice is a wonderful story of love, second chances and healing. It has so many of my favorite qualities in a book; A. Hot Rocker, B. Alpha Male, C. Great Secondary Characters, D. Love Story and E. A Man and Woman that love hard.
Chad Evans is the Rocker Lead Singer of Trapped Under Ice. Beth is a Lunch Lady/Erotic Romance Novelist. They meet by way of a tragedy. Chad falls in love with Beth immediately. Chad has a lot of baggage that weighs him down and so does Beth. There was a little bit of angst but this means good writing to provoke my emotions. I loved that Beth is a strong female character and has endured many tragedies and come out on top. She was able pull Chad out of his funk and stand by her man! I loved Pete and Roger. I would have loved Roger to have a happily ever after. My favorite scene in the book was the night snow sledding. Very cute. The characters feel real and deal with real issues.
The flow of the book was smooth until the end where it felt a little rushed. But saving the mystery to the end of the story made you stay on the edge of your seat. Well done! It is a stand alone with a HEA.
I would recommend this book for a nice love story with a hot rocker. MJ makes you feel as though you are there with your characters and see what they do. This makes for good writing and story telling. I am a big fan of MJ’s!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2014This story line intrigued me for sure and I did really enjoy ti! I really enjoyed the fact that this romance story is between grown ups! Beth who is 37, is a widow with a 16 year old daughter, Cassie. Her husband dies 3 years ago. Cassie works at her job to buy tickets for both of them at Christmas to see Beth's favorite band "Trapped Under Ice." After the concert, they are attacked by two men and rescued by Chad who is the leader singer of the band.
Overall, this is an interesting and fun romance story. You get likeable characters, a fun plot, and good romance. Beth and Chad are totally likeable and you want them be together. Cassie is a great daughter and at first I thought the author would use her as a detterent to them being a couple and it was refreshing that she did not do that. Beth is a strong and indepent person and again, I really liked that she wasn't a wimpy or needy woman. Chad is just awesome but comes from a broken home with an abusive father and past...so of course, he has some serious relationship issues.
So, the reason for 4 stars and not 5 are **SPOILERS** don't read below if you don't want to know!
I would have liked to see more angst between Beth and Chad dating/getting together. It all seemed to easy. Chad is one of the most popular singers in the world (per the book) and yet he is hardly recognized when he is out and about with Beth. No paparozzi or interruption. Of course, this is great but in today's age, it didn't seem realstic. Beth's behavior seems odd to me especially at the beginning of their relationship since she has only ever been with Paul, her dead husband. So, the fact that she so willing sleeps with him and falls for him seemed odd. Of course, she is starved for male attention and he is her favorite rock band so I did get over that. And, the sex scenes seem left me wanting more.....the author starts the scene but it is often then left to your imagination. Again, not bad but for me, I either want the scene carried all the way thru or don't start it and let me use my ignation. I also found myself re-reading pages after Beth blurts out "I love you" but Chad doesn't say it back and it's like it never happened. Odd! And, several times in the book there is lots of time that goes between them but you don't really know what has been going on....I guess I like more dialogue between the h/H.
The ending, while good and you get a HEA, kind of ruined it for me overall. I sure didn't see Cali, Beth's BFF as the person who was threatening Chad. Why did she do it? Ok, so she gave birth to a stillborn baby while her husband was cheating on her but why did she go so wacko! There is little explanation for this. I certainly didn't see the ending playing out as it did so kuddos to the author for keeping me guessing! But, it made me sad for Beth.
This is the first book I read by this author and I will try her again. I know there are 2 more books out there in this series, but was puzzled when I saw that they do not contain any of these character (at least according to the description and reviews).
So, again, overall a great and unique love story between mature characters that I do think most romance readers would enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2016What modern female hasn't fantasized about being with a man who can melt your heart with his songs, make you hot when he looks at you, and has the $$ & connections to spoil you? None! So that makes this book a drool worthy, jealousy triggering, suspenseful read and we all have an artist we can likely picture in the role of Chad...wow! And yeah, MJ, you loony lunch lady, you crack me up with how Beth has a college age daughter but is still hot and tight enough to drive the rock star crazy! How inspiring! Keep these awesome books coming MJ. We will keep reading and wishing!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2014I'm really tempted to rate this four stars, but there were just a couple of issues I had with the book. Overall it is a good read and I liked that it was a little different than the usual rock star romance in that both Chad and Beth were reasonably mature and we didn't have to deal with the typical rock star immaturity, drinking and sleeping around. The plot twist didn't make sense to me - maybe I missed something along the way but I couldn't quite get the character motivation, and I don't think it really added to the story in the end. Also the story of the Chad's anger issues didn't come across that well, I got the motivation from the childhood stories, but didn't quite see how he was resolving it during the story. Perhaps a more in depth coverage might have helped rather than mentioning he was going to therapy but not really telling us what happened there.
Would definitely read more books by this author.

Beth donovan is a lunch lady/writer and a mother to cassie, it has been three years since her husband paul died. Cassie and beth go to see her favourite band TRAPPED UNDER ICE, however after the concert they are followed and attacked by two men in the stadium.when Chad and hid bodyguard pete come to their aid, there is an instand attraction and sparks fly bewtween beth and chad. This is not a hearts and flowers story but it will keep you guessing until the end. highly recommmended to everyone. can't wait to read more of this very talented author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trapped under Ice
This was an interesting story. I enjoyed this book even though I didn't really warm to the male lead, Chad. I understood his motivations more as the story progressed, but still wasn't all that interested in him as a character.
The main female character of Beth was far easier to relate to and the interactions between her and the other characters in the books were very believable. Some of the secondary characters were portrayed in such a way that I’m already intrigued to read their books to find out what was going on for them behind the scenes of this story.
It started out as a very strong book with an opening that had me wondering how things would progress. The action remained a constant throughout the book and the twist towards the end took my by complete surprise. I would say that this is definitely worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock Star
I loved this story about Beth a widow who has a sixteen year old daughter Cassie. They are very close. Both decide to attend a concert to one of Beth's favourite rock groups. Beth can hardly believe it when Chad Evans famous group member comes to their rescue at the venue when Beth is attacked. There's a spark between them but their lives are very different can they make a relationship work? Both have unhappy pasts.
Delightful read about two people who are deep down more alike than they at first realise. A romantic read with wonderful characters and a very well balanced story. A recommended read.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT YOUR USUAL ROCK STAR ROMANCE
This was a pleasant read. It didn't contain any of the usual aspects that I've come to expect from the books that I usually read in this genre. The characters here were for want of a better description were grown ups and for the most part behaved like grownups.
Chad the lead singer in the group Trapped Under Ice, has a bad family history which has left it's scars on him. He's rather jaded with regards to women he's had plenty but they all seem to be into him for his fame, not for him. That is till he meets Beth a widow with a 16 year old daughter Cassie. Beth and Cassie are attending one of the bands concerts when they are attacked. Chad comes to the rescue. There's a spark between them which is the start of their relationship.
While I did enjoy this, it lacked that raw element that is usually present in books of this genre. The band all seemed a bit too goody goody for me. It wasn't that they weren't nice characters it's just I expected them too be a bit more self centred and full on. I didn't totally connect with Chad and Beth their relationship was a bit too low key for my taste. I liked the authors writing style. I'm just not sure it suits this type of story.
