BLACKOUT (REAL ROMANCE COLLECTION Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

One bad decision affected them all.

Eli
I was trying to make myself a better man for Faith. I didn’t realize how far-reaching one slip-up could be until it was too late. The guilt caused by what happened that night drove me away from her, but I never stopped loving Faith. I cleaned up my act and returned to win her back and discovered...she was with him?

Max
Even though I was in love with Faith, I never would have made a move on Eli’s girl. But when I found her alone and upset on New Year’s Eve, how could I continue to ignore the feelings I had for her?

Faith
When Eli blew back into my life I had finally found happiness with Max. But how can I say I do to Max when it’s Eli who makes me come undone? Should I trust the guy who’s hurt me time and time again or begin a bright, new life with the one who has always been there for me?

My decision will affect us all.

Blackout is a character driven story with three strong leads that you will immediately connect with. MJ Schiller captures their complicated relationship and the emotion that goes along with it splendidly. An excellent read uniquely told from the first person perspective of all three main characters.

(Request submitted by author for an honest critique)

I learned something new while reading this book. I had no clue construction workers were ever actually propositioned to do a little work privately, if you know what I mean. *winks*
I can see the appeal though. Their work attire does scream, "Hammer me." *smiling*

Ok, silliness aside, lets get to the nitty-gritty of this tale.

BLACKOUT is practically depicting every reason why you should never drink and drive, consume too much alcohol, or think a single drink is a good idea when you're an alcoholic.

Eli's drinking caused Faith emotional, physical and psychological pain. Despite every pain he caused her, direct and indirectly, she kept forgiving him. She's a poster-child for being an enabler.

I realize through the glimpses into the future everyone got their happy ending but in my opinion she chose the wrong man.

I always appreciate this about Ms. Schiller and BLACKOUT did not disappoint. Her ability to use a social register steeps you into this story of life with all of its mess, passion, and confusion and happy ever after. Way to go, Schiller!

Faith dreamed of getting away, traveling and seeing everything. Now the only thing she sees is her apartment and the few blocks to the diner where she works. One day she catches the attention of the construction workers close to her building. One follows her into the diner, into her life, and into her heart after they were trapped in her building's elevator during a blackout when poor Faith started to freak out from her own ghosts of her past. Eli breaks her barriers and she falls hard and heavy for him. He has a past that haunts him and soon starts to haunt her as well. Once his past begins to cause her pain both emotionally and mentally, she has to break from him. She's tried to help him, but she just can't take the pain anymore. Once she gets her life back on track, she runs into one of the other old workers, another friend of Eli's who she could tolerate, Max, who was always so kind to her. Max has finally achieved his goals of becoming a doctor and he sees a chance to try to finally give a go with Faith, but she has so many emotional scars and he can only imagine from what since she won't talk about it. He has love for this woman and so much patience he knows he can get her through whatever happened, although he feels it was Eli, and convince her she's worth loving. Just when things are finally starting to go good for Max, Eli pops back up in their lives. What's a girl to do? Her first love that was so hot it burned her or this new love that's nice and true, but not soul searing?

This story was such an emotional one. Two friends, one girl and secrets.
It starts off with Max and Faith. They are good together, their chemistry is off the charts. They have that once in a lifetime connection, you know the one that is so strong that no matter what happens, that person will always and forever be the one, embedding themselves so deeply into your heart and soul no matter what.
Their relationship is great until it isn’t. Every relationship has its ups and downs but when theirs is down, it is DOWN. Max’s addiction ends up costing him the most important thing in his life, Faith. Max knows he needs to do all he can to be the man Faith deserves and he does all he can to better himself not only for him but for her and their future.
Everyone has gone their own ways, and years have passed...
Eli has been in love with Faith since the moment he laid eyes on here but she is with his friend Max. So he does what he can to drown his sorrows.. He sleeps with random woman to fill the void. When he unexpectedly runs into Faith, he is shocked to learn that she and Max are no longer together.
Faith and Eli have always had an easy friendship, and the more they hang out together the more their friendship grows. Finally finding his happiness with Faith, Eli is delivered devastating news, the same time Max returns.
Faith she loves Eli, not in the same way that she loves Max and this leaves her torn. Max is her everything but Liam is her now, until he isn’t. He makes a choice that will change all of their future.
In the end they all end up with a broken heart but happy.
M.J Schiller created three beautiful characters. Such an emotionally beautiful story about love, loss, fighting your demons, learning from mistakes and forgiveness.
