- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2019This one started out a little slow for me. But I know Kerry was not going to disappoint me. And she didn't. Loved the different type of characters in this one. Surprises at every turn. Only problem being she left me hanging and needing the next one. This one is well worth the time to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019Raven is a woman who is tired of being a failure and is willing to do anything in her power to change her bleak existence. She's dedicated to her family and her boyfriend, Ben. She sees the contest as her only way to make a change and she impulsively takes it, even against Ben's advice that she walk away.
This wasn't bad read, but it wasn't a great read either. I felt like it lacked depth. It had the makings of a great story, but the emotional connection just wasn't there. The wasn't really any emotion between Ben and Racen, although the author told us there was. The story also didn't give off the high stakes rush of the life or death game they were involved in. Dragons taking the magic was also a huge part of the story, but the how was never really explained.
Overall, the story was enough to get me to finish it, but only so I could write an honest review. It lacked the thrill that should've gone along with a story such as this and I'm not sure I'll read more of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2019This is the first book by Kerry Adrienne that I have read, and I can say that I really enjoyed the way that she tells a story. She created two characters that I really connected with early on and that connection continued until the very end of the book. The world that she created is really interesting and totally dangerous, for obvious reasons as you read as well as the subtler dangers that creep up on the characters.
I totally empathized with Raven’s character. She is very refreshing and I loved how strong she became as the story continued. Benton is also another great character as he is the strength that Raven needs to help in building her confidence. I loved how he stuck by her side even when he wasn’t sure if they should continue. She was his focus, and that was awesome to me as the story continued and things became clearer.
However, one thing that I will say is that I don’t see this as a romance just yet. I found this book to totally in the fantasy realm with romance undertones, but the storyline was still VERY intriguing. I am really looking forward to what comes next for these characters because in the end, Raven is in a precarious place, but her resolve is very strong. Very excited to see what comes next! So, two thumbs up from me and happy reading. :)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2019As a prequel story for a new series, this short read has some interesting characters and questions that I assume will be fully fleshed out when book 1 comes out. A high-stakes games. A woman desperate to prove herself. A man with devotion. But who really are the the other's in the game and how will they affect the outcome?
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019Very intriguing read. Kinda a cliffhanger but not......the story we start reaches it's conclusion but in a way leaving me staring at her author page waiting the release of book one.
Occasionally I wanted to smack our heroine but she's a good character. A butflawed, but that makes her so much more realistic. Ben was pretty real and decent hero during the story.
We never get any true backstory on the three other competitors. We do get some on the mysterious Last Druid and our heroic leads. Even a tiny amount from the protagonist.
My biggest upset was we never get a full description of the pet exotyl. Hopefully we get a better description in the full series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2019This is a must read by this author in this genre. Great plot and characters. I volunteered to read an advance copy for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2019This was a well-written, entertaining novella. Raven has a lot of trouble keeping a job and wants to find a way to earn some money. She asks her boyfriend to travel with her and enter a contest. Her boyfriend was loyal and loving. Adventure and danger follow their every step. I enjoyed this book and would read more books by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2019I would give Raven's Game 3.5 stars. Kerry is a new author to me. I didn't get into the book until like 70% in. All the chapters prior are necessary for the story because it gives you the details of the characters and the history of the world they live in. I will continue to read this series because I am interested to see what happens with Raven.
Raven doesn't know it yet but she's about to play a big role in the game. She's felt like a failure the majority of her life. Rupe's game will forever change those lives that chose to play. Raven will not stop till she wins and has Ben back at her side. But Rupe isn't what he seems to be and Raven will found out when it's to late. But rest assured Raven hasn't given up.
