From the Author

In my first novel Rebecca's Hope, I introduced a western town in the late 19th century filled with colorful characters and innovative young women. Carol's Choice is a continuation of the tale and includes characters initially introduced in subsequent stories, such as Emma's Dream, Lois's Risk and Maggie's Strength.

Sometimes what the heart truly needs is right there in front of you. It may take you awhile to recognize it though.
Kimberly Grist has woven such a wonderful story of Carol, a young woman left to take care of her two young siblings after her her parents and step father have past away. She is pushed toward a marriage of convenience but makes a choice to go live in a house that was left to her in Texas. Her thoughts are to only stay for awhile and come back soon.
They are picked up by a Mark, a handsome gentleman who takes then to their home. The home is very small but she determines to make it work and more than that, she meets Mark's amazing mother and family.
With the voice of narrator Dave Cruse, who was truly amazing and the words of Kimberly Grist, this story warmed my heart and brought to mind what is truly important in life and the real meaning of Christmas with the Joy we can find everyday. I cannot wait to hear more!

Carol Stone 's father passed away then her step father and mother. Carol was left with a brother and sister to take care of. Her Uncle cared only about business and money so he gave Carol a small house in Carrie Town in the West in 1890. She got a small allowance to live on to support her and her siblings. She was picked up by at the train station by a handsome man who took her to a very tiny house. Carol did not expect it to be so tiny. The neighbors and friends were friendly. The kids seemed to like it there. Carol would have to learn what this type of life offered. Would she stay or would she go back east? Would she enjoy the vast differences in the different types of Christmas's than she was used to? Ms. Grist writes a truly wonderful story about the true meaning of Christmas. Comparing Dickens to the bible story of Jesus birth. I read this book in less than a day. I would recommend this book to teens and adults. I truly found this a wonderful story for any time of year.

Even though this book was a good read, it reminded me a lot of Garnet's Gift, by the same author. This book did not give as much of christian readings from the bible as the first book did. They both had happy endings, and like fairy tales they both were good. Still love the meaning of Christmas.

5 things from Carol's Choice by Kimberly Grist
1)Carol flees to a small town with her young siblings.
2)Mark is the neighboring rancher and helps her get settled into small-town life.
3)Sharing Christmas with the less fortunate.
    4) Little sister plays the inn-keeper in the Nativity and wants to give Jesus a room.
    5) Homemade nativity set.

This is a sweet, predictable story. I listened on audio, always nice to have while doing chores. The male
narrator definitely got Cowboy Mark's voice down, but it seemed a little strained for the female (if that is something you pay attention to).

This short story is the embodiment of the way life should be lived, all wrapped up in a beautiful pioneer Christmas setting.
