Red Dot Capers Kindle Edition
Kitty Kat preferred to live as a recluse, finding her relationships with people awkward at best. Cats, however, were a different story. A complaint from a neighbour led to animal control seizing all twenty-two of them. Her attempts to stop them made things worse, landing her in Anger Management Classes.
They have never met, but share an undeniable bond. This romantic comedy will leave readers laughing as they cheer on this unlikely couple. Mystery brought them together, but will solving it tear them apart forever?

- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2021Jack has worked nine years as a lawyer for a human-only firm which doesn’t allow shifter employees. When he mistook a laser pointer’s red dot for the red dot of an enemy sniper, Jack is suspended and sent to take ParaReform, an anger management class, before he can come back to work there again. Relieved he still has a job, Jack thought his shifter secret was kept safe. But is he safe? Shifters don’t have rights, unlike humans.
Kitty Kat has ended up in court for hitting a city employee. The city only allows three pets, but she had twenty-two in her home in the human-only sector. Her temper has gotten the best of her, and the judge has ordered Kitty to attend anger management class. That’s where Jack and Kitty meet and their adventure begins. Add mystery and romance for a fun and delightful read! I’ve enjoyed it, C.A. King!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2020Overview: Meet shifter Jack Russell and cat-fancier Kitty Kat, and learn how Anger Management Class brought together an unlikely couple in a paranormal romantic comedy that’s custom made for animal lovers.
Although C.A.King paints a grim picture of the future for multiple pet owners and shifters, she doles out more than a few romantic twists and comedic surprises in her purr-fectly sexy and fun paranormal fantasy tale, “The Red Dot Capers”. In classic King style, she leads readers on a fun romp, introducing danger and mystery to an otherwise simple plotline, and ends on a cliffhanger as she hints at a second chapter for her memorable characters.
In this story, King focuses on animal shifters—particularly, cats. Shifters have few rights under the law and are shunned by society. Their living quarters are segregated, they must be registered in a database, and their movements are highly restricted. For humans who keep pets, the number of animals they may have is controlled by the law and there is little mercy for those who break it. Animal Control has little regard for the pets of those who must surrender their animals—which all undergo a neutering or spay process, or have to be put down. The clincher is that it’s sometimes hard to tell whether a cat is just a cat, or a shifter. Thus begins the tale of Jack and Kitty—A shifter and a cat fancier destined for love.
Although the plotline in “The Red Dot Capers” is somewhat predictable and King’s characters maybe a bit stereotypical or one-dimensional, this is a tale that will pluck at the heartstrings of animal lovers with scenes of great tenderness and compassion, along with situations that lead to complete laughter and mayhem.
King manages to walk a fine line as she successfully presents a story filled with irony, romance, laughter, and tears. Paranormal Romance fans will lap up the steamy scenes between Kitty and Jack and Romantic Comedy fans will roll on the floor laughing over the absurd situations they find themselves in—not to mention the latter’s fear of losing his manhood to the avid staff members at Animal Control.
“The Red Dot Capers” is a lighthearted and comedic romance read for fans of the paranormal. This story contains some moderate adult situations and scenes of animal abuse. I recommend this easy-to-read novel for ages 17 and up.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2020What do you get when you cross a shifter in denial and a reclusive cat lady with anger issues?
You get a highly entertaining paranormal mystery adventure story that doesn't want to be put down once you pick it up.
This is a great read, written with warmth and vivacity. Just like the storyline, the characters are quite original and quirky. The writing is very good and the action moves at a good pace, with a few amusing twists along the way.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2021This was a cute paranormal story with some humor and mystery. I don’t normally read paranormal stories but I think I have found a new genre and author.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2020Jack Russell is a Shifter who prefers pretending to be human while he's really a cat. Kitty Cat is human, but loves cats. They both live in a world where humans and Shifters are segregated and there are some pretty serious consequences if they fraternize. But what's worse is that Shifters are disappearing all over the city and no one knows why.
This is an absolutely delightful story with humor, whimsy, and a dash of romance. The world building was subtle, but complete enough for us to get the bigger picture. Well-written and on the lighter side, this is definitely the kind of story you'd want to read after a miserable day. My only quibble is that it seemed to wrap up a little too quickly. I realize that there's another book coming in the series, but I just needed a touch more. But it's a really small thing in an otherwise very fun and enjoyable book.
Be sure to pick it up today.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2020This is a really cute shifter - mystery - romance. Jack's character is very likeable and I'd love to see how he grows in the next book. The little pixy-fairy is a hoot and I enjoy the way she's twisted into the plot.
I look forward to the next in series.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2020This was a fun and quirky story about a cat shifter named Jack Russell and a shy, reclusive lady who adores cats. This whimsical book had a little bit of everything, romance, humor, adventure, and suspense. If you are looking for a light-hearted fantasy romance, you will love this book. The open ending promises more adventures for Jack and Kitty. I loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2022I am a HUGE fan of this author and it has been a while since I've read anything they've written.
RED DOT CAPER can be read in a few hours, it is the perfect palate cleanser. While this is a novella, it is a full bodied story that I enjoyed every moment of. It is not your typical dystopian, shifter, PNR.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Dot Capers
Jack Russell had protected his secret desperately for ten years. If he wanted to have rights, to work as a lawyer, to live in a nice property, it was a necessity. For ten years he had cut ties with his beast and separated himself from others of his kind, but a single incident in the office had exposed him. Red dots from a laser pen were known to cause problems with shifters, and when one danced inside the office Jack lost it, and almost his job in the process. He had one chance at saving everything, anger management, but little did he know there was more going on at his law firm than met the eye, and a person within the group knows more than they let on.
Red Dot Capers by C.A. King is paranormal fantasy romance that will leave you chuckling. Jack has a rather unique shifted form, one which appeals to the withdrawn cat lady, Kitty Kat, who also ends up in anger management. The two characters quickly bond, and each rapidly assist the others growth in overcoming fears and concerns. Written in the smooth flowing style I have come to expect from this author, this novella was a fun read with playful humour and a serious undertone. This funny and charming tale with lurking danger and hidden agendas will keep you engaged from first page to last.
