August (The Year of Discovery Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 31 ratings

Twelve women connected by the death of another, realizing what they most want from life and reaching for it – this is the year of discovery, the year of new beginnings.

Angela Grayson ran for the school board when she was a student at UC Berkeley, then she became mayor of her hometown shortly after she graduated. Marrying young, Angela found herself trapped in an abusive marriage where her husband controlled every aspect of her life. Escaping him seemed impossible, but she prevailed and even found herself in a new relationship that was everything her first marriage wasn’t.

However, the scars were there and Angela swore she would never again feel like she had no control. She decided to run for state senate, but even in today’s world, a woman of color has to fight for the respect she deserves.

Angela is determined to help other women escape the same nightmare she faced, but when she runs up against a chauvinistic legislature, what will she have to do to make them take her mission seriously?

I’m totally enjoying this Year of Discovery Series and this is book 8. The primary character in this book is Angela Grayson who has overcome an abusive relationship, became Mayor then went on to seek and elected as Senator to help women. Her present husband Antwon is a gem. She is submitting a bill to allow women to who seek in shelter from abuse are allowed to bring children as well as pets with her, Margo and her dog Blue who saved her and Mika from further harm from Dallas is there to testify and support Angela. Enter her ex and is harassed by protestor Stewart Milson and her mother dying. It is a truly inspiring series with great narration cannot wait for next book. August: The Year of Discovery Book Eight was another great read by M.L. Hamilton. Angela Grayson has always been a driven person and she found herself as the mayor of her small town after graduating college. She married her ex-husband young but found herself in an abusive relationship. She was able to escape him and after sometime found a man who was completely different than her ex. She finds herself determined to help women that find themselves in the same situation she once was. I relaly enjoyed this book and loved how Kelley Hazen brought life to the characters.

I am loving The Year of Discovery series. In August we have Angela Grayson’s story.

Angela is a strong woman who has picked herself up and taken control of her life. She’s taken on a role where she can make a difference, but when she’s confronted with her past, will it all fall apart?

This is such an inspirational story by M.L. Hamilton. When it’s paired with a phenomenal narration by Kelley Hazen, you get an incredible experience.
