Anne Penn has been writing all of her life. Her interests are focused primarily on true stories. Penn has written 5 books about the Golden State Killer Cases to document possible murders that are still unsolved as cold cases in the State of California. A multi-generational native of Sacramento where the notorious East Area Rapist lived, the criminal was always in the Sacramento area not far from Anne and all of the women he harmed. That has been Ms. Penn's focus. Bringing answers to families who still wait for justice is part of why Ms. Penn put her research into book form.

Anne Penn's background is in Psychology, Criminal Justice and Addiction Specialties. A Certified Addiction Specialist she also obtained a degree in Addiction Studies. Anne is also a certified crisis & suicide prevention counselor & has also obtained a degree in Sociology and Addiction Studies. Anne has been interested in True Crime stories since she watched the aftermath of the assassination of John Kennedy unfold as a young child. There have been many high-profile crimes she has studied since 1968 when she was still a child. Senator Robert Kennedy, and next came the Manson Murders. The Zodiac Killer ran amok briefly when Anne was a child and she and her family were two hours away from his crimes.

Forensics and the psychology of why a person becomes a serial offender have been a huge interest while studying serial killer Theodore Bundy since 1980. Anne has studied everything she can about serial killers like BTK, Dahmer, Gacy and others over time. Also, a field of study is forensics. Anne had to share the connections she has to The East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker/Golden State Killer, originally hoping to help solve the case of EAR and GSK by asking those from her hometown of Sacramento if they thought the profile of the offender sounded like someone they might have known. Now after deep diving into what may have actually happened in the 58 years the Golden State Killer was free; her investigations have inspired her to write What If? Golden State Killer ZODIAC SOLVED. Next was End Game of The Most Dangerous Game Golden State Killer which discusses the fact that besides being a serial rapist this man was a prolific serial killer. End Game includes the politics of the time, geographic profiling which has always been an interest of Anne's. There is commentary and she shares the connections to the Zodiac Killer in this and her follow-up book. GSK was sentenced to life without parole August of 2020. Penn continued to investigate which then brought about the book Serial Slaughter Zodiac Killer (with Convicted Serial Killer Joseph DeAngelo) in 2021. This book shows the connections of the Golden State Killer to the Zodiac Killer. Penn shows how this perpetrator could in fact be the same man. A fascinating read. Penn has been a woman's/victims advocate all of her life. Penn is an advocate for victims of violent crime and believes that justice must prevail in these old cold cases. Many victims and victims' families still wait for justice. Great reads. annepenn.wordpress.com for her blog.

This author has made a compelling case connecting GSK with Zodiac. There is evidence going back to the 60's that GSK killed animals as stated by people close to him in podcasts, so I am 100% convinced that alot of the dog poisonings were him. I also believe he did change his MO. Also, it was not unlike him to drive several hours to commit a crime. He was all over California most of his life and knew the ins and outs of many areas near lakes and such. It is not at all a reach, to believe he committed the Zodiac murders. He was in the Navy and could have learned to write ciphers. Perhaps LE found evidence of this upon his arrest when they went through his house in CA. One must keep an open mind when it comes to serial killers that got away with crimes for so long, undetected. We truly won't ever know the scope of carnage he left behind. I truly believe he has committed many more crimes, and so do many others, including law enforcement. I have talked to experts on the case who believe the same. The author mentions some cold cases that many people believe were committed by GSK. The author deserves alot of credit for the sheer amount of research and timelines of GSK that seem to intersect with Zodiac murders. I truly hope all of the cold cases will get a fresh look from law enforcement. The families deserve closure. GSK committed horrible crimes, and everyone should be doing their due diligence, as this author does, to get answers. The author is also related to one of the victims as they state in the book. Keep this in mind when reviewing this book, and how you would feel if this happened in your family.

The topic compelled me having had scarily close proximity numerous times to horrendous crimes of both the Zodiac and the GSK between my ages of 19 and 32. After learning the identity of the GSK I discovered I'd also been a student at the same college campus for two years. The terror these two inflicted on the women and men in Sacramento and large swathes of northern California's SF Bay Area was vividly real. All these decades later I would like to have more answers to those years of terror which had a significant impact on how I faced the rest of my life. That explains why I downloaded this title, and, although the writing is fundamentally subpar, I was open to hearing some of what she suggested, and wish some open-minded parties would pursue parts with academic rigor (graduate student theses?).
I disagree with a reviewer here that considers that Zodiac crimes and GSK crimes were incompatible with longstanding forensic theories. Although Zodiac crimes were categorized as nonsexual, they were almost all perpetrated by stealth attack on couples in romantic situations. Each was directed to tie up the other in order to be able to view the death of the partner. He may not have raped during those acts, but I don't see how they could be classified as nonsexual.
The GSK in Sacramento tied and terrorized mostly couples, and if memory serves he began to take lethal gunshots if he knew someone had seen his face (hence the couple walking their dog in the evening).

Anne Penn’s books are fascinating and educational. Thanks to Ms. Penn, my wife and I now have a wooden boards at each of sliding glass doors to prevent entry, even if the lock is jimmied. Sliding glass doors were one of the Golden State Killer’s points of entry. As our military leaders advise, “Know your enemy”. Thanks to Anne Penn, we know more about the predators who live among us. We know more about where and when and how they attack. I love Ms. Penn’s firsthand knowledge; at one time, she lived in the same neighborhood as the Golden State Killer and his victims.

I am amazed at Ms. Penn’s commitment, dedicating most her life to the pursuit of the Golden State Killer. In fact, early in her pursuit, before the Golden State Killer was caught, Ms. Penn predicted where the killer was, and she predicted many of the things he would do. Her investigative skills need to taken to heart. I want to thank Ms. Penn for putting the spotlight on the Zodiac Killer. Ms. Penn knows how to connect the dots, so let’s take a close look at her findings.

Anne is right about this being a horrendous story. If this guy is and was Zodiac and the Golden State Killer, the sheer number of murders he may have committed is astounding. Even if just a few were from the same man this book tells of the so very many unsolved murders of women in the state of California for every decade and she has only scratched the surface. An unfortunate story I found it very compelling evidence that there is way more to the story and there are many connections. I recommend this book to all interested in the cases.

Anyone who has lived in the areas that this killer terrorized will find the information in this book fascinating as well as disturbing. From the beginning of his crime spree there were numerous opportunities to discover his identity and stop the fear and carnage he inflicted on innocent people. The investigation and details given in this book shows the determination and intelligence of the author. This is a must read for anyone affected by this monster and anyone interested in finding justice for his and all victims.

Penn is a meticulous researcher of both GSK and the Zodiac, who captures the nuances of both sets of killings. The analysis reveals overlapping predatory behaviors that are strikingly similar between the two predators. Penn shows DeAngelo’s lifelong residences coincide with GSK and Zodiac crimes, as well as many unsolved sexual attacks and murders that are cold cases. “What If” answers the question of whether or not GSK and the Zodiac are one in the same.

I found the book a hard read and slightly confusing. The author kept going over the same facts stated in different chapters and kept using the same buzz words like "Monika" which seemed to to be lazy writing.

This is a complete and utter rubbish! I would score minus five if I could.
I have never come across a book so poorly written and edited. It is full of mistakes, typos, needless gaps, it's very repetitive and the same articles, pictures and information appear again and again. In fact I can write a book about how bad this one is.Lisa Dickinson was abducted when she was 9, two pages later she's suddenly 12. Some names are not correct either. Some sentences are not even finished and there's just a gap.
Oh yes.. it was supposed to be about GSK being the Zodiac. It is barely mentioned. They both killed on 4th of July. WOW! Who could imagine that?! Must be the same person if the date matches!
Most of the time the author goes on about how police are useless and she knew the whole time where GSK was. She goes on like this was definitely him, who commited a crime, nevermind police doesn't think so, I KNOW!Then she chucks in some articles, says it has nothing to do with either GSK or the Zodiac, but why not.
Then some chapters about rape and how they were never investigated properly..

Basically it is full of irrelevant information, nonsense and hell knows what else.. Author is so unreliable, that even when you see something that could've been right, you don't want to trust it.
It was clearly "bish boshed" together (can't call it writing) to make a quick buck. Pages were added just to add volume.

I am not just disappointed, I am furious that books like that are being published.
