Madrona Sunset (Madrona Island Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 45 ratings

Welcome to Sunset Harbor, Washington, nestled on beautiful and remote Madrona Island, where the main entertainment on Friday nights is a high school football game, everyone knows everyone's business, the pace is slow, and the residents wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Meet a wounded warrior suffering from paralyzing guilt and a woman pining for her dead husband--both damaged souls craving comfort for a moment or a lifetime.

Mandy Walters' husband died a hero in the Middle East while saving another man. Three years later, Mandy is struggling to move on and make a viable business of her partially remodeled bed and breakfast on Madrona Island. When a mysterious, handsome stranger shows up and offers to finish her remodel in exchange for room and board, Mandy reluctantly accepts, needing his assistance more than she'll admit.

Brody Jenson has come to the island to pay a debt, even though it's taken him three long years. Reluctant to tell Mandy he's the one her husband died saving, he sets himself up to help her, but she helps him just as much. When the time comes to leave, Brody is torn between this loving woman and his driving desire to conquer the next challenge.

Can the laid-back island life heal a damaged, adrenaline junkie like Brody or must he walk away to save them both?

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Washington's San Juan Islands are my home away from home. Originally, this book was set elsewhere, but this summer I decided to move the series to a fictional island in the San Juans. This book is the first of many, and it's my hope to convey my love for this special place to my readers.

USA Today bestselling author Jami Davenport writes sexy contemporary, new adult, and sports romances, including Gone Missing, Seattle Sockeyes, The Scoring Series, and the Portland Icehawks.

Jami lives on a small farm near Puget Sound with her Army Ranger-turned-plumber husband, a Newfoundland drool monster, and two demanding tabby cats.

Jami worked in IT for years and is also a former high school business teacher but recently achieved a life-long dream of being a full-time author. A horse lover since birth, Jami showed dressage horses for over thirty years. Now she gardens and goes glamping, along with other travelling adventures. She's a lifetime Seahawks and Mariners fan, a proud season ticket holder for the Seattle Kraken, and still misses her SuperSonics. An avid boater, Jami has spent countless hours in the San Juan Islands, a common setting in her books. In her opinion, it's the most beautiful place on earth.

Where do you begin but to say Simply Fantastic. Madrone Sunset is a story of loved loss and loved found. Mandy is a woman who lost her husband three years ago and is still at s standstill in her life trying hard to move on and find some happiness again.
Brody is man who comes to Madrona Island looking for closure and redemption in trying not only to heal his own wounds
but wounds he felt he brought onto Mandy..
The emotions in this book are raw but also healing their is angst and romance but what you really are rooting for his their HEA. If you are looking for a book that will definitely pull at your heartstrings and make you smile this is definitely one you don't want to miss .

I really liked this story. She is trying to renovate and open a B&B. She is a war widow and is trying to get her life back on track. He shows up and helps her with the renovations. She doesn't know that he served with her husband and her husband died saving his life. He helps her but stays quiet about the relationship with the dead husband. He suffers from survivor's guilt.

He slowly falls for her and she is very attracted to him. She has the family from hell. This was a very good story and I really liked it. I definitely recommend it.

When Mandy loses her love in war, she isn't sure what she's going to do. Three years later, she's getting there...slowly. She has a job that she's working to pay for renovations for a bed and breakfast she wants to open, but when it comes to love, that's another story.

Brody needs to pay for a debt. Three years ago his buddy saved his life, and now, he needs to take care of his wife. And by take care of he doesn't mean fall in love. He's not the right kind of man for Mandy, not the kind of man she needs after her husband died in war.

Mandy's head is telling her not to do it, don't fall for the guy, but her heart is all in. the journey to find their way is one that is inspiring and heart warming.

I read this story in the Anthology HOT BEACH ROMANCE: SAND, SUNSHINE & SIZZLE, which contains 15 full length novels. I loved the characters & premise of the plot but I have an issue with the writing. Well...2 issues actually.

    1. When Brody Jenkins introduces himself to Mandy Walters she becomes visibly upset, almost as if she should remember something about his name, and asks him "Please leave now". This is never mentioned again.

    2. When Brody embarrasses Kyle in the bar, Kyle makes threats against both Brody & Mandy, stating they will regret everything. Again, never mentioned again.

Why tease us with these potentially dramatic plot twists if you are going to take advantage of them to enhance their adventures? I kept waiting for something to happen that never came to be. I was a little disappointed.

So while I liked MADRONA SUNSET I was disappointed that the plot didn't reach it's full potential

I just reread 'Madrona Sunset' in Hometown Heroes. I loved the book, characters, plot, and setting. I hope the author writes another in the series.
