Save the Last Dance (Evergreen Dynasty Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 56 ratings

What's a girl to do after her former fiance declares that she's frigid?

Mariah Baker decides to take a jaunt on her wild side...if she can find it. The scruffy Puerto Rican leasing the waterfront house next door appears to be just the man for the mission. After all, what better way to defrost than with a sexy Latin lover? Only Rico isn't who she thinks he is, and time is her enemy.

Rico finds fashion-obsessed Mariah intriguing and unique. For starters, she makes horses dance, and his heart does its own tango for her. Besides, a hot summer fling is a welcome distraction from his depressing, uncertain future and dysfunctional, freeloading family. As their summer together comes to an end, Rico's phobia towards falling in love and Mariah's insecurities are a recipe for trouble in paradise. But in the magic of the San Juan Islands, anything is possible. Or is it?

Review

Reviews for original version published as "The Dance."

"The Dance was an unpredictable and utterly exciting book that absolutely took my breath away. I will be adding The Dance to my list of books to be reread several times over. Ms. Davenport just became an author that I will most definitely be adding to my automatic To Be Read Book list. I am giving The Dance five stars for the excitement and perfection that it turned out to be."--Just Erotic Romance Reviews, Val Pearson (5 Stars)

"Right from the get-go, The Dance embraced humor, warmth, very human characters and a wealth of possibilities. It's a well told tale about two people who make choices with the best of intentions and get the worst results... You can't come away from reading The Dance untouched. I certainly didn't and I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a well told romance."--Whipped Cream, Xeranth (5 Cherries)

"The Dance pulls on your heartstrings and caused me to tear up a time or two...The Dance is still more than just a love story, there are some ups and downs which keep you guessing and causes plenty of hand wringing as we wait to see if they will get their happily ever after. I definitely recommend this book, its a great read filled to the brim with real emotions and plenty of heat."-- Euro-Reviews, Lynda (5 Flags)

"A beautiful love story and so much more. There is a lot of plot weaving and twists here that you wouldn't expect in this kind of story but it all works, especially the love scenes - can you say "smokin'?" If you're looking for a read which will bring tears to your eyes and joy to your heart then pick up The Dance you won't be disappointed."--
Simply Romance Reviews, Lynda (Grade A--An Outstanding Read)

USA Today bestselling author Jami Davenport writes sexy contemporary, new adult, and sports romances, including Gone Missing, Seattle Sockeyes, The Scoring Series, and the Portland Icehawks.

Jami lives on a small farm near Puget Sound with her Army Ranger-turned-plumber husband, a Newfoundland drool monster, and two demanding tabby cats.

Jami worked in IT for years and is also a former high school business teacher but recently achieved a life-long dream of being a full-time author. A horse lover since birth, Jami showed dressage horses for over thirty years. Now she gardens and goes glamping, along with other travelling adventures. She's a lifetime Seahawks and Mariners fan, a proud season ticket holder for the Seattle Kraken, and still misses her SuperSonics. An avid boater, Jami has spent countless hours in the San Juan Islands, a common setting in her books. In her opinion, it's the most beautiful place on earth.

Trust is a big thing in any relationship. Love is also needed if you want a relationship to work. Pain and deceit are part of this story.

I felt the pain and prayed Rico and Mariah could overcome their issues. I loved the details and mystic healing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not one of JD's better books!

Frankly, I expected more of Jami Davenport. I loved her sports series so I figured I could not go wrong when I bought the first two books of the “Evergreen Dynasty” series.

This book has been a torment to read. It is lugubrious throughout, featuring a heroine who is so smitten with Rico that it makes her embarrassingly spineless, and a “hero” who is so afraid of getting hurt, of letting his heart be vulnerable, that he denies his feelings for Mariah, making both of them miserable.

A little bit of angst is good. A bit of emotional tension? Definitely. What would a good romance novel be without it? But in this book that's all there is, right until the last few pages. And then the happy resolution is being spoiled by an overly sweet marriage proposal that left me wincing. It reminded me too much of all those amateurish vows couples write nowadays for their weddings.

I enjoyed the main characters with their quircky personalities and their passions. Nicely written , light, and fun.
