An Improper Proposal (The Distinguished Rogues Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 346 ratings

In life there are choices…

Spinster Iris Hedley was once the darling of the ton until her father lost his fortune through an illness of the mind. Reduced to living as a penniless guest while her father rots in debtors prison, she’s determined to escape unscrupulous robbers who’ve set her to spy on the ton by the only means possible—by becoming a wealthy mans mistress. Unfortunately for Iris, her proper upbringing never covered intimacy or seduction so she asks the one man she trusts for help with private lessons in the duties of a mistress.

…in love there is but one

Martin Andrews, the Earl of Louth, may have a soft spot for tiny Iris Hedley, especially after her father fled London with a horde of debtors nipping at his heels. Her request for lessons in seduction leaves him reeling and although tempted it’s an offer he must refuse for her own good. Convinced she’s headed for heartbreak, he sets out to prove that surrendering to wicked pleasure is not worth the sacrifice of her future only to discover that her problems are more complicated than his own.

A regency historical romance novel.

The Earl of Louth is magnificent... He is a big man with an even bigger heart and if he hadn't fallen for Iris so completely I might have wanted to give her some competition ~ Night Owl Reviews

I just admire Heather Boyd so much. This story was sixth in series and was quite good love her story lines Martin and Iris our main characters prove true love can happen. The book has some of our other favorite couples from the other books. Martin has a good time teaching Iris about sex which she thoroughly enjoys. Not to give away any more of the book I would recommend this to friends and all who love happy endings.

This was a fun read because the characters were interesting and not imbued with dark emotional baggage. The storyline had its twists and turns that kept me reading.

The heroine is portrayed as strong and in a very good way. She is not headstrong, stubborn nor defiant. Her father is in debtor’s prison and she is being blackmailed into being an accomplice to robbery. She handled her situation quite well. She has maturity and she is the typical virginal, assertive, kind hearted heroine. The hero is portrayed as honorable, pleasant and overall mild-mannered in the sense that there are no scenes of him being overly alpha or an arrogant bully. He is protective and a man of action. I like the hero and heroine’s interactions because it was grounded enough. Even their lovemaking scenes (steamy but not sordid) blended well into the story. There were certain loopholes in the plot twists and how they were resolved but quite tolerable. The epilogue would have been nice if it was well into the future of the couple instead of just a few days and more emphasis was given to lay the foundation for a future book. Overall, I enjoyed the book.

As usual this is another great book. I love Ms. Boyd's series. Great romance (sizzling) intrigue, suspense and a little humor. Can't wait for the next one.

I'd read a few of series and quit because I didn't enjoy some of the mid-series stories. Because I usually enjoy Boyd's books, decided to give this one a go because of the higher ratings.
    Very glad I did.
Thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their relationship. Appreciated that the author showed the characters' development through action and behaviors.
Note-Passionate and sensual with a little graphic language. May not be for those who prefer tame love scenes.

This is the first book that I have read of Heather Boyd that I thought was just so so. Her writing is very good. I did like the hero very much so maybe it was the heroine and her story I didn't care for. I will still buy her books as they are released.

An entertaining story, but not my favorite of the Distinguished Rogues series.

Somehow Heather Boyd manages to combine a sexy romance with human angst that we can all relate to. I have just read this for the second time. It’s just as gripping as first time around..the dark secrets that Iris keeps hidden from polite society, her heartache when after losing her dowry she releases her fiancé from their engagement. Finally her shame when she makes the difficult decision to survive by becoming a mistress.

With such an harrowing plot this book should be dreary but it’s not. Heroine Iris has a lot of spirit and a few good friends. There are even a few funny moments in between sultry sex lessons. Enjoyable and highly recommended reading.
