5.0 out of 5 stars . Inspirational & Uplifting!

This story is filled with inspiration and an uplifting story of redemption. The main characters, Gracie and Ethan both have an interesting past filled with heartache and frustration.Gracie, just coming of age, decides for herself that she wants to follow her dream. Not God's will for her life which Gracie knows nothing about. Throughout the storyline, I felt more and more connected to her. I also admire Ethan's dedication to the Lord in helping her find her true path. There were tender moments, moments of fear, and also some of chilling suspense. This book has it all, and I came away feeling rejuvenated in God's word. It's a wonderful story which will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

Like many of us, Gracie doesn't know how good she has it until she leaves home to follow her dream. I truly enjoyed this faith based romance set in rural America of the 1920's. The author developed characters well, but I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that she could set a scene her in the US even though she lives abroad. Perhaps that is the reason that the descriptions are a little sparse even though she manipulates the emotions of the reader extremely well.

I was really attracted to this book due to the beautiful cover art. However, I didn't find the read quite lived up to the promise of the cover! Sentence construction is unusual in this story and frequently anachronistic. It uses slang American expressions, such as 'get fresh with her', in a period romance. It was a bit jarring.

I didn't find the lead character particularly interesting or empathetic. Nobody has much depth, to be honest. There's much plot but little insight into the character's inner life. There's much telling but no showing. The author has a real passion for storytelling, which could develop into deeper observation and subtlety.

Lindsey pens a great story in Stinky Thoughts and Her Lost Soul. Lindsey's genre is Christian romance, and this one definitely fits that genre. I've read a lot of this author's work, and I really enjoyed reading them all. This one is also a great read. It brings the reader back to 1925, and introduces the reader to Gracie. The characters were well developed and the story fit the time. It's filled with trials and tribulations, and even faith and a bit of naiveté. Romance, along with motivation and strength of overcoming whatever is there blocking the way to happiness guides Gracie. I look forward to reading more by this author. This read is definitely recommended by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.
