    The first book in the new Gifted Girls Series gives the reader all they could hope for. Each time I start a new series it is with the thrill of something new and different. Of course, it has been said there are no stories and, to an extent, it is true; however, as with the musical scale the elements can be shifted into unique combinations. I feel that Magical Miri manages to do just that. I like to keep my reviews as spoiler-free as possible; however, as has been stated elsewhere the titular character has grown up in New Orleans with her grandmother, mother, and siblings. Suddenly the mother decides to move away from the familiar and the result is a story with a great plot, great characters, and a well-developed world. I recommend the book. I received an ARC of the book and I not only wanted to leave a review but also bought a copy.

    One thing any girl worth her salt would avoid doing is going back, alone, at night, to a bar that she knew had been full of nasties.

    This is a great book for kids in high school and even for us older adults. I love Miriam and Belle. It was sad when their mom abruptly moved them out of their Grandmother's house into Caleb's house. Having to make new friends is hard. I like how Phillip came into Miri's life. The adventures they had trying to follow Miri's brother, Michael. The black cat kept showing up out of nowhere. There is something special about the cat. Enjoy reading the first book of the series.

    This book is one of the best that I have read in a long time. I love books about witches and other supernatural beings but this had that extra bit. It was exciting and at times a little bit scary. I loved the characters of Miri and her younger sister Belle. The grandma I felt sorry for when Mum made the girls and their brother Mike leave Grandma's home and move in with mum's not very nice boyfriend Caleb. There are a lot of struggles for the siblings and they go through something not very nice, but they are all safe at the end of the book. I for one am going to purchase the next book. I loved it that much.

    I picked this up because of the cover, and the blurb sold me. I was super excited to dive into it, I loved Miri from the first word, loved the world around her and the characters along the way. The story was powerful, Kristi has a way with words that makes them weave a picture in your head of a vibrant world of fiction. I adored this book, Miri coming to terms with her abilities and all the hiccups along the way. Overall, a great read and one that I recommend!
