Among the Jimson Weeds (Running Nowhere Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

Conor Kelman, a young man coming of age, faces triumph and trauma every day. Misunderstood and not learning or knowing how to deal with his issues, he is in a constant state of awkward discomfort. Weird, different, he tries to fit in, to be accepted. He searches for something to call his own--his girlfriend, guitar, a little white house in an apple orchard. Inwardly, he hangs from a cliff by his fingertips afraid to reveal that he sees ghosts. Visions that play in his head haunt and distract. No matter how fast or far he runs they won't stop. Gabbie, the guitar from the pawnshop and the ghost that came with her are all he has.

I read, and I mean I read a lot of books. I probably burn through about 2 books a week and mostly in the murder mystery and paranormal genre. I found Paul Keene's series "Running Nowhere" last week and have read the first book and loved it! I order the next two in the trilogy. Conor "with one n" is compelling, very flawed, attempting to grow up in a difficult time, and has an ability to see ghosts which only makes his life all the more complicated. Add losing the first love of his life, developed a terrible nicotine habit, and I feel for the kid. I want him to succeed in his life and hope he does. I'm now half way through the second book. I highly recommend this trilogy.

I'm enjoying the book so far but has anyone else noticed missing pages? The 2nd time it happened was just after Conor tells Little Dicky, "... I almost sent my math assignment to Wylina." Then there is a blank page, next comes Chapter 15. It starts, "No I've had enough..." enough of what? Seems the transition from the store to arriving at Little Dicky's back yard missing there.

This is a great book from a new author. The book was realistic and extremely thought provoking. It held my interest from the very first page until the last. I fell in love with the characters because they were so real that I felt as if I knew them. Looking forward to the next one. I would highly recommend this as a good read.

Paul Keene has really caught the essence of growing up in a small town in the '50's. He makes it very easy to identify with the characters. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to following Conor in future adventures. A great start for a new author.

Since everyone has been a kid, this book relates to us all. There is some of Conner in all of us. No child should have to wrestle with all of the emotion and turmoil displayed so vividly by this author. Yet many do. Some even survive to adulthood. I recommend this book to anyone with a child and anyone that has been a child, Re-live some of those insecurities. Thank God you overcame some of them; Recognize the weaknesses and strengths that are in us all, no matter our age. I am looking forward more of Conner's story in "Between Pieces".

This is a very interesting short read written in first person in language that a young boy in the Fifties would use.
It kept my interest throughout and am looking forward to Keene's next book.

There are so many books in the world and only one seems to take you back to a free and simpler time. Among The Jimson Weeds, in my opinion, should be the next great American classic. So many of us connect ourselves to a certain era and this book does just that. Most of us can picture scenes that pop right out at us while reading yet this book puts an entire movie in your head. Chapter by chapter it made me feel as if I were right there in the story. I am excitedly awaiting the next installment of this series. It is truly refreshing to see an author capture the spirit of America in its prime and innocence.
