Chancing Hope: A STORY OF LOVE AND UNPREDICTABLE SUSPENSE Kindle Edition
In "Chancing Hope," readers are introduced to Kerwyn Bartel, a skilled young horse trainer with an uncanny ability to recognize a horse's potential and help them overcome their fears. However, applying these same instincts to his own life proves to be much more challenging. Kerwyn struggles to navigate his feelings for his childhood best friend, Mable Conner, while haunted by the pain his father experienced from the loss of his mother.
Mable Conner is a young woman with big dreams, including a burning desire to become a singer. She is hopelessly in love with Kerwyn but finds it difficult to make him see her as the woman she has become, rather than the little girl he grew up with. As she pursues her dreams of stardom, Mable must also grapple with the idea of potentially leaving Kerwyn behind. Will he even care if she stays or goes?
As mysterious loner Devin Hill enters their lives, the dynamic between Mable and Kerwyn is irrevocably altered. Kerwyn sees Devin as a dangerous threat, while Mable views him as an opportunity. Their lives quickly become intertwined, forcing Mable and Kerwyn to face unexpected changes and confront the uncertainty of their futures. Ultimately, they may both be left to chance hope.
"Chancing Hope" is a poignant coming-of-age novel, filled with emotional twists and unforgettable characters. Max Van Zile, an editor with Editing for Authors, has praised the book, saying, "Chancing Hope is one of my favorite books I've done working for this company." He adds that one of the characters becomes "the single best and most memorable villain in any Editing for Authors book I've worked on."

About the Author
As an author, there is nothing I find more exhilarating than encountering those remarkable moments when what I thought was "my story "develops, much like a child, and becomes a story of its own. Boldly tugging me along, luring me to chase after startling discoveries and uncovering rightful identities of yearning characters.
As a person, there is nothing I find more exhilarating than living in the actual moment and experiencing life all around and within me. I believe a good author knows how to write, but a great storyteller knows how to live.

About the author

Lisa is the author of romantic suspense, Chancing Hope, legendary love story, Holder of the Horses, thrilling mystery, For the Garden, military fiction, Dead Alive, and true autobiography of a police canine, K9 Odin.
"The best things in life happen when you are willing to step outside of your safety bubble."
Lisa lives in Oregon with her husband, grown children, and numerous farm animals. Apart from family, she has two great passions.
The first, being an author of stories gifted to her from life, powerful inspiration, and imagination. She has become known for captivating her readers and has been accused on many occasions, that she’s caused them to burn too much of the midnight oil devouring every last word before dawn. If this were the case with you, she sends her apology (but is indeed quite ecstatic).
The second is horseback riding. If asked, she says her obsession with horses and endless desire to ride and compete didn’t spawn from any one event, but that she was born with it, pure and simple.

Chancing Hope (Romantic Suspense) - Book Review Published June 2018
"This author is a MAGNIFICENTLY gifted story teller! This book was hard to put down and so I didn't! I used all of my spare time to immerse myself in the story and that was simply done because of the way this author used her flair with words to pull me in! I loved the symbolism with the animals and the people. It was not lost on me. The book is filled with descriptions of characters that were so real that I imagine I knew them. And believe me...the antagonist is not someone I WANT to know...AT ALL! The story is compelling and I actually found myself scooching to the edge of my seat more than once as I read on and on. At LEAST I didn't scream at the characters, out loud that is. I do wonder if there will be a sequel or even a movie script for this book. I'll follow her story telling career to find out!"

Holder of The Horses (Sweet Romance) - Book Review Published July 2019
"BEAUTIFUL The way this author has written these characters makes you feel like you are experiencing exactly what they are going through. I felt their sorrow and pain and cried right along with them. I never really knew how much it took to manage a ranch or the heartaches it could have but this book shows you just how hard and rewarding it is. This book also shows you about following your dreams, unconditional love, and what a family should be. I will always think of this story and smile when I see an eagle. Thank you for such a beautiful story."

For The Garden (Thriller / Mystery) NEW RELEASE Published May 2020
Years ago, the unimaginable murder of eleven-year-old Samuella Rose left Sarina Rose, her twin sister, in a downward spiral and plagued by nightmares. Fifteen years later - the case still wide open - the only way she has managed to keep her head above water is due to her attractive massage therapist, Duane Whitson, who she battles to keep at a distance, and Clyde Small, the detective who has never given up on combing every lead in search for justice. However, it’s her unlikely roommate, Becky Bracken, that introduces her to dream interpretation. But that’s not where the interpretation stops.
A cold shiver covered Becky’s arms and legs with goosebumps. This was beyond superstition or hoaxes. This was actually happening. Graver still, she suspected, Sarina had no idea.
Could Samuella really be communicating over the gap of death, beseeching for justice? Or is Sarina losing her grip on reality? Either way, finding the killer was worth the risk, but if she succeeded would anyone believe her?
What did she have to lose? Just her sanity. Maybe her life.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2018Lisa Slater has written a story that I was able to follow, engage, and enjoy, despite my lack of interest in typical romances or equine enthusiasm. This story reads as something I could envision on film. It is a story about young love and the most pertinent connection between the two lovers is the link to horses. The to and fro between them is a consistent pursuit that does indeed follow things that occur in real life young love. A good read. An easy read. A beach. on the sofa read. I could most definitely see this book in the hands of a young teen who is passionate about horses and romance.
A perfect fit for young adults and a good read for others.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2018This book was hard to put down! Romance, suspense, intrigue, humor... It's got it all. The story pulls you in with great descriptions that transport you into the intimate lives of her characters. This author knows her subject matter well, it's all very believable and she creates quick connections. Teenage attitudes and horse antics had me laughing hysterically while the suspense had my stomach in knots only to be laughing again pages later. This book is a wild ride through the beautiful and ugly realities of life. It truly leaves you willing to take a chance on Hope and anxious for the next book!!

Hope is fragile but yet the strongest! Read this to follow the life of a girl and boy who never forget.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2020I have a hard time finding good books. I loved this book! It's the type of story I couldn't wait to get back to. Thank you for writing a book that though full of conflict and struggle offers hope to all. I also loved the fact that it wasn't filled with foul language and raw love scenes. This author proved a story doesn't need swearing and sex to present a wonderful, yet authentic read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2018The first half of the story rated a satisfying 4 stars. After that, from about 50-70%, it was like the author didn't know how to keep the main characters that readers had come to care about as the center of the story. In addition, the story needs more closure.
SPOILER ALERT- SPOILER ALERT-SPOILER ALERT
Children, horses, fledgling relationships with other couples are all thrown into the mix as a way to keep up the word count, I guess. I skipped over much of this because it did nothing to add to the tension in the story or keep a person connected. In the meantime, no details are given of how and where Kerywn had searched for Mable over the years. It's hard to believe that each year he didn't take off in some new direction trying to find out about her. There are times when a person could forget he was even thinking about her. Plus, concerning another character, if you think a person is dead, where do you check to verify that? As I said, the second half of the story needs work and proper structure and direction and organization.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2019Starting with a sweet love story, things begin to go wrong. In high school the two close friends begin to separate emotionally. She is lured away by a horrid person and her life does not turn out at all the way she expected. For many years the boy is able to set aside his hurt and bring hope to troubled youth. It is a tragic story as far as the girl is concerned but the boy is able to bring redemption to others. I believe the story is worth reading. It has many elements of redemption even through the tragedy. I usually abhor books with swearing and other unacceptable language. In this case the story line overrode my reluctance. I did not rate it higher only because of the language.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read...
The book keeps you invested into what happens next. Love and suspense is intertwined through past, present and future. The ending is chopped off, and I would have liked to see more of Kerwyn's and Mable's relationship established before ending the book.
