- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2019I don't like that Reece sounds so much like many TV/movie detectives. Maybe there are real-life detectives who sound like this, but I hope not too many. My late wife would have complained about the under-representation of female characters, but hopefully that will get better balanced as the series progresses.
I am not a medical or forensics expert, but I have invested a little bit of spare time in courses for the public which lead me to think of a couple of improvements to the depiction of the coroner and his role. Most readers won't have any problem with him.
I was a little reminded of a series from 30 years ago by Tanya Huff. The details are quite different: Los Angeles rather than Toronto for instance. This quick readed has whetted my apetite for the rest of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2016We have the rest of this series so we were surprised to see a 'prequel' come out now. However, the rest of the series is sitting in the wings for us to read and we already have them lined up. This prequel did a great job of laying out the relationship between Reece and Andre. Reece is gritty and comes across as the embodiment of the quintessential homicide detective. Hopefully, with Andre around, he won't get himself killed. We look forward to watching this strange relationship develope. We can already foresee it's going to be a series full of interesting cases to be solved.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2019This is the first book I've read by this author. I've found her writing style to be easy to read and the characters likeable. I would have liked to have had a little more description of the vampires, but overall I liked the story. I look forward to reading the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2019This sneak peek, page turner leaves me wanting more. Great start to the Dark Legacy series.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2017Homicide detective Reece Daniel's investigates a grisly murder, and find himself in over his head. The investigation with his partner Dave Colson heats up leading them to a prominent Los Angeles hospital. Where they meet Dr, Andre DeLacroix. Daniel has a hunch that the good doctor knows more about the crime than he is letting on. The genre is something I don't read often, but M.A. Anderson tells a solid story, and kept me turning pages.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2019M. A. Anderson did a great job. She kept me thinking who was the mysterious murderer. The fact that there was a variety of suspicious characters was outstanding, since it was exciting to think and analyze the final outcome. A dark, obscure story, yet very contemporary that takes place right in my playground...LOS ANGELES. Please keep coming up with these stories M.A. Anderson.... Thank you!
