Dark Legacy (The Dark Legacy urban fantasy series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Doctor Andre Delacroix, a vampire masquerading as human, finds himself at the center of a series of unorthodox murders. As the body count rises, he fears he could be the killer, that his bloodlust is so overpowering, he can't remember committing the crimes. At least, his nightmares point to that terrifying conclusion.
When Andre’s best friend, Reece Daniels, an LAPD homicide detective, heads the investigation, the hunt soon becomes personal as evidence points to Andre. With his friend looking more and more like the prime suspect, Reece must race against time to uncover the truth. But the truth is far more sinister than he could possibly imagine, and the danger closer than he thinks.
In a frantic game of cat and mouse, with each disturbing twist and turn, the stakes get higher – and the chase becomes more deadly!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2020Vampires in modern day society? Who’d have thought! And he’s a well respected doctor. Obviously a great profession to be in to disguise your blood lust.
But, all is not what it seems. Throw in a love interest, a tough cop, and eventually his boss and you end up with a great team of vampire and yes, even werewolf, hunters.
This is a fast-paced read that grabs your attention from the get go and doesn’t let up with the action. Wonderful characters with realistic and believable interactions give this read a true and gritty side that doesn’t go over the top like some of this genre, that can turn into a bloodfest. Oh, don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty of thrills and chills and gruesomeness.
And don’t get me started on the twist at the end! I was totally gobsmacked and more than a tad miffed until.........
Well, I won’t give away what the amazing mind of MA Anderson has conjured up. I’ll just say this is another great series opener that promises so much for the subsequent reads, and will deliver. Of that I have no doubt!
Five chilling ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for Dark Legacy, that actually shines a light for this genre.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2017If you're into dark urban fantasy, tortured heroes, romance, action and adventure, this is the book for you. How do you tell your best friend - or girlfriend, for that matter - that you're a creature of the night? That's what faces Dante, a reluctant vampire who refuses to give in to the dark side of his nature, and whose buddy just happens to be a cop.
I enjoyed this first book in the series and I'll be reading the rest.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2013The title of MA Anderson's novel aptly describes one of the underlying themes of this story about modern-era vampires roaming The City of Angels.
In this 'good versus evil' tale of dark terror in Los Angeles, vampire doctor Andre Delacroix is accused of masterminding and committing a production line of deaths of innocent young people across the city. Sought by the police, including his longtime friend Reece Daniels, who doesn't know his friend is a vampire, Andre goes on a mission to hunt down the real perpetrator - someone who is his mirror image physically, but far from the tree mentally and emotionally. Along the way, the reader delves into the seedy underworld of the after-dark clubbing scene, learns that not all vampires are bad, and that even some places of religious worship and the people who run them may hide dark secrets of their own.
There is a twist in this story, right near the end. Some people have raved about 'not seeing it coming' in reviews. This was not my experience. I was more confused by the twist, which resulted me re-reading the last several chapters twice to try to make sense of what comes later. Overall, the story was an interesting and satisfying read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2011I read this book thinking it would be the same old vampire novel as always. I was surprised to find it was not what I expected at all. M A Anderson has a creepiness about her writing that invades the psyche, you are drawn in and held until you finish the book. The other good thing is this is just volume 1, so I will wait with baited breath and my hand clasped firmly around my neck for the next in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2011I recently purchased a copy of Dark Legacy and have to say, I'm hooked on this writer.
It's clear from this novel that M A Anderson is a very talented storyteller, who enthralls her readers from the first sentence. Before you know it, you're on a cataclysmic journey through the vampire underworld and crime ridden LA, where evil is lurking just beneath the surface and threatening to destroy all and any associated with the good Doctor Andre Delecroix. But Andre is not all he appears to be and soon he, and his closest friend Detective Reece Daniels, will be drawn into a deadly game of murder and mystery ... And that's when this book starts to get really good!
In fact, the characters and narrative are so well developed that you actually feel part of the story, not just an outsider reading it in a book.
And it's definitely the intriguing parallel storylines between these two main characters - Andre and Reece - and the way they keep intersecting that keeps the reader turning the pages.
This is a well crafted novel with amazing imagery and realistic characters that I can't recommend enough. This is urban fantasy and crime at its finest and I, for one, can't wait for the sequel! Treat yourself this festive season and buy this book for a guaranteed good read. I promise you won't regret it.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2012Nice to see an Australian author make good. Dark Legacy is definately on my "When does the movie come out?" list.
Vampires, murders, detectives, innocents, and a twist make this novel one which I found not only entertaining and easy to read, but a true page turner. The chapters are short, which in my opinion is a good thing. The storyline is not only interesting, but also cliff hanging, leaving the reader wanting more.....much, much more.
