"Sincerely Speaking Spiritually" is authored by worldwide acclaimed, award-winning and best-selling poet, Joseph S. Spence Sr. It talks and concentrates on the literature-based biblical form of poems to heal the pain and sadness of people. The cover brightens with its kindred spirit and fills the mind with pure tranquility. The title evokes wisdom, teaches the truths of life, and its lessons.

Dr. Spence, a renowned poet, is the author of ten books, specializes in creative writing. He pens the love for God and humanity to inspire betterment. The poems praise the Lord for his blessings. By using different sorts of poetry and prose, his experience sheds light.

It has five sections. Section One consists of Regular Spiritual Poems. He writes poems about the human belief to reassure people who feel left-outs, a promise of hope & love, and explain parent's challenges in upbringing their kids. The Visualization Poem is my favorite. It talks of national unity and God's revelation.

Section Two is Poetic Prayers. I learned about the necessity of various and customized prayer forms for loved ones. What ensues me the most is the prayer poem for those who suffer from suicidal thoughts.

Section Three is Invented Short Spiritual Poem. It accentuates us to find the new path and life - to carry out day-to-day activities, worships God for peace and livelihood. The beauty of this section is the use of quadruple senryu poetry forms. Using the Tanka Poem, he pens a splendid poem that liberates thoughts and how to rise above your hurdles.
Section Four consists of Epulaeryu Poems. He invented Epulaeryu poetry, consisting of drinks and dishes he found fascinating while traveling the world. The forms and styles are a real deal of spirituality using biblical texts as a medium.

Section Five is a glossary weaving a knit about the previous poems in depth. The weightage of the prose and poetry are real inspirations making people feel light and emancipate them to feel motivated and reconciled with hardships they experienced. The lucid narration does wonders while categorizing the sections with a clear understanding.

The explanatory notes at the end of the poems help in identifying the form and style. The Website addresses in the glossary are the plus, which is very helpful in cross-checking the references. Reading this book, I realized the lack of spirituality takes its toll not only in your mental health but also in our ability to appreciate the fundamental values of integrity, sense of justice, and love for a fellow human being. The poems deepen and develop the hope to live amid losses, an understanding of despair, and make you believe spirituality heal bitter experiences. The author's words draw the readers in, and to connect with God, self, and others.

This book will have a positive impact on its readers as it uplifts the veils due to daily routine burdens and helps discover the very purpose of life by deepening moral values and urges one to invest in the solidarity of humanity. Joseph S. Spence Sr. wrote a gospel literary book, which is "A repertoire of spiritual poems and poetic prayers about faith, praises, sacrifices, and God's love - akin to the book of Psalms" - to name a few, where Christians can really acquire a spiritual connection. As the book suggests, the content uses more concrete, figurative, and literal language throughout its prayer-poems rather than the usual imaginative and variety of characteristic creative features, thus, giving the reader an easy and smooth-sailing read. This provides a new kind of narrative of the sweet language of Jesus. Great poem collection!

During the coronavirus pandemic with churches in lock-down and human contact restricted, the Word of God is much needed. It comes in the form of the book by Joseph Spence. His poetic prayers bring to my mind the writings of the Bengali mystic Rabindranath Tagore. "Spiritually Speaking" requires immense concentration and would do well in a monastery for monastic contemplation. Some poems are more deeply spiritual than others, and I suspect that the author practiced much meditation and prayer to compose such a magnificent work of spiritual guidance. The author's faith is enviable and makes me question where I stand. His book requires soul searching about one's faith. On top of it, we receive a course in poetic forms and literary English. A worthwhile book for one's home library or for opening prayers at Bible classes.

I am reflecting on the process of how this book stated. My thoughts became focused on writing the book when I was asked by community members to write a book on Spirituality back in 2004. I had just completed a television interview of my first poetry book. Thereafter, I became the co-owner and poetry Chaplain of The Worldwide Poetry Alliance, UK, consisting of poets worldwide. My dear sister, Patricia Ann-Farnsworth, North York, England, was the founder and Christian Jussaume, Freetown, Massachusetts, USA, the poetry forms tutor. I studied and wrote in 100 different poetry forms and styles with their guidance, mostly in "Spirituality." I started writing the book in 2014 after the Worldwide Poetry Alliance President Patricia experienced the passing of her husband. I had a lot of prayers, researched data, applied scriptural verses, and years of practical experience to start the process of writing. I diligently started writing the manuscript with one poem each day, which took me seven years to complete the process.

The manuscript was completed in 2019, with over 400 pages. I cut the pages down to 115 to reduce the cost of purchasing for readers. It took my publisher from April 9, 2019, to February 21, 2020, to release the official publication. I am happy with my accomplishments. I learned a lot about the various stages and aspects of publishing. I had previously published three books, 2004, 2006, and 2009; however, this experience was totally different. After retiring the army, working as a journalist for more than one organization, served as a co-editor for Furrow Journal at The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and studied various aspects of writing and publishing, from this experience, I embraced the realization of how little I knew about the real world and legal intricacies of publishing a book. Now the experience is under my belt. I am ready to continue the journey to the next level with a serial edition in "Spirituality!"

Prof. Amb. Dr. Joseph S. Spence Sr. studied English literature, creative writing, the African Diaspora Japanese linguistics, and poetry at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (UWM), and University of Maryland Global Campus. He invented the following while studying at UWM: "Epulaeryu," "God's Dynamic Steps," "Seventh Heaven," and "Linking Pin Sonnet" forms and style regarding spirituality. His created poetry forms and styles are recognized in many literary circles worldwide and have been the subjects for a variety of poetry contests.

He currently serves as a mentor to poets worldwide in developing their poetic and creative writing skills, as the chief advisor to several worldwide poetry forums, and has received numerous awards for his ingenious and inspirational writing skills. He retired from the United States Army with over twenty years of faithful and courageous military service and assists veterans in overcoming life's obstacles.

He simultaneously graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland (business and management), and Howard University ROTC (military science), Washington, DC, where he served as the special assistant to the Professor of Military Science and 2nd in command of the ROTC Cadets. Upon graduating he received the Distinguished Military Graduate and Daughters of American Revolution Awards from Howard University ROTC program.

He completed a divinity degree while in the US Army at night, and after completing a prescribed course of study, he was installed as a Eucharist Minister by the Bishop of the Armed Forces, Bishop Charles Burgreen. After that, he assisted protestant military chaplains worldwide as an additional duty to his primary role as a commander. He served twenty-six years of courageous, faithful, and honorable military service as an officer, commander, and retired as a decorated field grade officer worldwide.

After that, he studied English literature, creative writing, the African Diaspora, linguistics, mythology, and poetry at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (UWM). He created the following poetry forms and styles while studying at UWM:

This is my first read by the amazing author and am I in awe or what...!! He's a well known and a celebrated author with numerous credits to his name.

This is his 4th book, I suppose and it is very very enlightening, insightful and informative.

It has 5 basic bifurcations wherein the first 4 parts deal with emphasis on a particular form of poetry and various poems and the 5th part is a glossary of the origin, type, format etc of all the forms of poetry.

The author has also included his self invented style of poetry, in the book.

The poems are beautiful as well as positive and uplifting.
They left me mesmerized.

Among other noble thoughts, the poetry states some basic rules to adhere to. . live and let live..be good to others..take care of yourself..

The foreword and preface are beautifully written and we'll explain what to look forward in the book.

It is basically powerful, precious, positive words and prayers weaved in the form of a poetry.
