Greg's mom is worried about her son's safety and has grounded the boy from time travel. Greg is fairly certain that, while he may be safe from the Pirate, he will now die from boredom. But soon after, the Pirate is seen in their time dimension and Greg's dad lifts the ban so the boy can help his father track down the elusive time-traveling bandit. But before long, it would appear the Pirate would instead find them; and Greg, his family, and their friends would all be forced to travel to the 1800s with no way to return to the present.

The stakes are high in this fast-paced thrilling adventure as Greg's friend Rose must find her friends who are struggling to survive in another time. History comes to life once again in C.M. Huddleston's
Greg's Fourth Adventure in Time. Huddleston continues to delight young readers with the fourth installment in the Adventures in Time Series. Prepare to be enthralled by this highly entertaining and fascinating foray into the past. Greg's Fourth Adventure in Time is recommended for home and school libraries and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.

Greg's Fourth Adventure in Time joins others in the Adventures in Time series and tells of the time-traveling duo Greg and Rose, who are separated between past and present, leading Rose on a journey to locate Greg in the mid-19th century. This fourth book in the series for older middle grade and young adult readers embeds quite a bit of historical fact in its story, but retains the drama, strong characterization, and action of previous books in the series. The terrain becomes rocky as Rose faces the Pirate, who specializes in stealing from the past, the possibility that her loved ones have been killed and buried in a previous time, and the certainty that anything they attempt will become steeped in pioneer experiences. Rose's adventures read like a combination of history lesson, science investigation into the mechanics of time travel, and detective story as she unearths clues to Greg's fate and embarks on a series of journeys made realistic and thought-provoking by family encounters with people, events, and mechanics of living in pioneer times: "Dad explained how each pair of oxen had a particular yoke that fitted them better. This kept the yoke from rubbing and making sores. "Dad, how did you learn to do this?" "Oh, I watched a YouTube video made at an historic park demonstration," he replied without even cracking a smile." Between the action, humor, struggles with the time-thief Pirate, and exploration of pioneer history, Greg's Fourth Adventure in Time makes for a winning series addition that prior fans will welcome. It will also appeal to newcomers, offering a recap of events that sets the stage for this latest adventure, and is a fine addition to both the ongoing series and the genre of YA time-travel stories as a whole.D. If you have a reluctant reader who prefers a screen to a page, "Greg's Fourth Adventure in Time" might be just the thing to turn him or her into a book fan. This book has everything young readers find appealing: time travel, surviving in a hostile environment, excitement, tension, relatable characters and a plot that will keep them turning pages right to the end. And, as a bonus - they might actually learn some history along the way. As a former middle school reading teacher, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book - a great read for students and parents alike.

Another wonderful adventure with Greg and Rose. I especially enjoyed the details from American history and the intrigue with the devious Pirate. The fun narrators (Greg and Rose) make it appealing to middle grade readers. If you love history and time travel, you will enjoy this book!
