Three Steps Away: A Titus Ray Thriller (Titus Ray Thrillers Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 789 ratings

He was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person.

Now, he’s forced to assume an identity from his past.

CIA covert operative Titus Ray always figured one day he might encounter someone who knew him as a different person from a previous operation. He just never expected it to happen on a family vacation.

It was the wrong place . . .

While vacationing in Bridgetown, Barbados, Titus suddenly finds himself face-to-face with an Iranian businessman who knew him as Hammid Salimi when he was living in Tehran during a deep-cover operation. Forced to resume his old identity, Titus learns of a Russian government scheme to help Iran avoid strict economic sanctions imposed on them by the U.S.

It was the wrong time . . .

When Hammid Salimi receives an invitation to attend a party on the island where both Russian and Iranian bankers will be present, Titus risks his life to learn more about Russia’s plans to aid the Iranian regime.

It was the wrong person . . .

After Titus learns the Russians, in partnership with some Iranian investors, have developed a new banking transaction software, the Agency sends Titus to Beirut to participate in the beta testing of the computer program, where he discovers a Russian businessman is not who he claims to be, a discovery that almost costs Titus his life.

It was the wrong place, wrong time, and wrong person, but it was the right decision.

The decision Titus made to resume his old identity could have had disastrous consequences. Instead, it caused him to rely on his faith, confront his anger issues, and depend on the power of prayer.

Book VII in the Titus Ray Thriller Series takes Titus on a perilous journey from Barbados to Beirut. Along the way, Titus uncovers his boss’s secrets, deals with an obnoxious co-worker, and falls in love with Nikki all over again.

Review

A Goodreads reviewer writes, "The characters are very well-developed and believable. I enjoyed the way the author described Titus Ray's internal struggles and character flaws, creating a very authentic main character. The story was action-packed, and one is left wondering how the author could be so knowledgeable of the CIA and the work of their covert operatives. I've read and enjoyed many Robert Ludlum books and I'd rank this series right up there with his!"

The book is well written, well edited, and gripping. The plot is very good and the characters each come to life as we read. Actually, I found that I could picture the whole thing all the way through. I am not usually one for international spy stories so only started this series on book 6, but I am so pleased I did. This book is clean and has an authentic feel about it. Highly recommended.

I cannot speak highly enough of this series. On the one level it is a masterful spy thriller, tightly plotted, filled with unique characters, tackling contemporary issues of international politics And what it means to be human in a thoughtful manner. At another level it is a carefully mapped study in coming to faith and into faith. Titus Ray is a wonderful creation. He is an ‘Everyman’ of Christian ‘becoming’. His journey is one of carefully managed insights into human spirituality and living in a challenging environment. What I like so much about Titus Ray is his quiet honesty about his faith and how he is finding ways to live it out, warts and all.

This latest installment in Titus Ray series is a continuation of his story, and the many side stories that flow into it -his work/mission relationships, his family, and the intricacies of his missions - the detailed planning, the mission itself and the wrap-up. Plus, we have a neat view of Titus growing and sharing his faith. Such are encouraging stories for families, marriages and employees to learn to trust, share and obey!

I just finished Three Steps Away, where the characters once again come alive in her books. The assignments unravel in the best way, even when there is a snag, the reader is sitting there waiting for a resolution to happen. Or not! Which will it be? In this novel, the game changer was a biggie. Leave it to Titus to be part of the game changer and the resolution. It amazes me that with each book in this series, I become more interested in all the branches working to fulfill an operation to a successful end. Not to mention the gadgets the operative get to use, the travel to countries I won't ever get to visit, but they come alive for me through Luana's superb writing. You won't be sorry to start with Book 1 and continue reading each new release.

An absorbing spy story, told so realistically and with heart that I found very enjoyable. Titus assumes an old identity to take on a new assignment: To copy a new Russian program to aid Iran in circumventing the U.S.'s tariffs against them so that trade can open up between them and Russia --and ultimately many other nations. It turns out that there was insidious connection with Hezbollah. All of this Titus and his team of undercover agents find themselves in the middle. It wasn't full of action and violence, but the story itself was sufficient to engross myself into.

I love the Titus Ray series. This book has just the right amount of mystery and intrigue. The characters are well developed and their voice and actions are believable. The plot was great. There were many times I could not tell where the story was going--twists and turns kept you reading. Titus Ray, as Hammid Salimi, carries the story. There were several times when I thought, wait, this needs to happen, and sure enough, a few pages later, the author, Luana Ehrlich, made it happen. She covers all the bases and wrote a fun, exciting read. I look forward to, reading more of her work.

Excellent addition to the Titus Ray series! Characters are well developed and believable. The physical landmarks are well researched and make the reader feel as if they are actually there. The story has just enough romance and family moments to counter the suspense. The best part is the author has interwoven the message of the gospel in a very realistic way through the flawed protagonist, reminding us that we are all in need of Christ, without sounding"preachy". The only downside is that the book has to end! I'm already eagerly awaiting the next book about Titus Ray, CIA agent extraordinaire!

Titus ends up working even on vacation. He’s in danger as someone recognizes him and he must resurrect that old character. His prayers for others are charming.

Titus is assigned to return to Lebanon to meet with Russian businessmen. The Russians are involved in the development of a new banking system to help Iran be able to move money through the international banking system because the embargo placed on Iran cut them out of the only international banking system. Titus’s last assignment left his other persona, Hamid, in a questionable status with the Iranian secret police, and if found, Titus could be killed. ENJOY!
