Damaged Goods (Men of London Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 133 ratings

Touched by tragedy, love is an elusive dream never to be realised by eighteen-year-old Jax Grady--until he discovers his secret admirer and receives the sweetest gift he could ever desire.

THE SWEETEST GIFT

Tragedy and horror shaped Jackson Grady's life, leaving him orphaned and scarred. At eighteen he's ready to claim his future, but who could love his disfigured face and damaged soul? Definitely not a big, burly, beautiful Irish Traveller who is entirely the stuff of dreams.

Dare Rowan didn't mean to become obsessed with the blue-eyed man he first saw across a field, but that porcelain skin and innocent air demanded another meeting. Jax has the face of a wounded angel, and the rest of the young man is as heart-breakingly perfect. Jax is beautiful in every way and teaching him about love and life will be something Dare will embrace. Like unwrapping and savouring the candy at the shop where he works, Dare will show this young man everything Jax desired but never thought he'd have, and take Jax to new highs while he holds him through the lows. Between them, they’ll find out just how sweet life can be.

Damaged Goods by Susan Mac Nicol is a beautiful story about two young men, from very different worlds, unexpectedly finding each other, and love. It follows the story of Jax, who we met in Feat of Clay, and is a wonderful addition to the Men of London series.

Jax has suffered a horrible trauma in his past, and has the physical scars as a reminder every time he looks in the mirror. An orphan, working hard to make his way in the world, he is an old soul at 18. He can't really believe anyone would be interested in a relationship with "damaged goods" and is not expecting anyone to see past the scars to the person beneath.

Dare is an gorgeous Irish traveller making his own way in the world and managing the local sweet shop. When wandering in the woods near his village he spies a "beautiful angel" in the garden and is mesmerised. Watching Jax interact with the children at his half way house, Dare falls a little in love with the sweet, caring, young man before him. Finding a non stalkerish way to meet Jax consumes his every waking hour.

When Jax runs into Dare at their local mall he can't believe the stunning, muscular young man could possibly be interested in him, and refuses an offer of coffee. How these two beautiful souls gradually come together and the touching development of their relationship, as they work through the issues from the past, makes for a heartwarming read. A frightening visitor from the past and Jax's insecurities place pressure on their burgeoning relationship but together they have a chance to achieve the HEA they so desperately crave and deserve.

Damaged Goods was an enchanting love story that had me riveted from the first to the last page. I read it in one sitting and finished with a completely satisfied smile on my face. A feel good, delightful read, and a very different, but perfect, addition to the series.

A sweet romance, with lovable characters you want to sweep into your arms for a group hug, Susan Mac Nicol once more tugs at your heartstrings with a tender story of affirmation and friendship that blossoms into more. There's angst, but of the normal sort given Jax's disability and youth, and the tale includes a refreshing look into Dare's cultural background.
My only quibble was in how the two came together, with Dare's behavior approaching stalker status in a way that really came across as unsettling for this reader. Otherwise, this is an uplifting tale and a most worthy addition to the Men of London series.

Let's start this review out by saying that I want to be friends with Dare and Jax While we are asking for the moon, Clay and Tate as well. Throughout this book I was impressed by Jax's strength. What he had to endure was horrifying and yet, for the most part, he came out whole and a well rounded guy. The fact that Dare saw through to what he was inside and didn't see what Jax saw as his disfigurement made me fall for him just as quickly. The fact that he was a might stalker-ish, well hey who could blame the guy? I mean come on! Jax is HOT. Added to this wonderful couple were Dare's family and Jax's family and friends. Tate and Clay from a previous book made a great addition and were, quite frankly highly entertaining.
Yes there is heartbreak in this book, there is lust , sex, friendship, love, laughter, a surprise or two and forgiveness. But what else this story has is a lesson that you must not stereotype people. Look closely to who THEY are. Don't base it on any preconceived notions. I fell hard and fast for Dare and Jax as a couple, as a team, and I enjoyed seeing their story come to life in such a way that makes me root them on .
Susan did an amazing job bringing this story to life. Kept me turning page after page. Wanting, needing to find out how it all turned out.
I highly recommend this book. Whether you have read the previous books or not.

Damaged Good is very slow moving melodrama with plenty of angst.

In conclusion : I don't hate it but I don't like it as much as other books of the series.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a beautiful story for Jax and and Dare, they make an adorable couple. Jax was a young 18 year old impatient to experience being with a guy. Dare was an older man to Jax by 7 years and wanted more feelings involved especially when it came to his Angel. I loved Dare for being so patient with Jax even though all he wanted was to be with him in the most intimate way. Jax never though he'd experience being with a man considering he was scared and half blind making it difficult, and has a habit of putting himself down. I guess Dare was fated to be with him but they have a few obstacles to jump first. A fantastic book to read for your libraries, this book had me in the first couple of pages in.. Highly recommended.

Another inspiring read. Such a heart warming story. This Author has not only given me pleasure from reading her books but has also taught me many things along the way. I wouldn't say I was small minded, maybe a little naive. Topics such as a person's sexuality which to me means their sexual feelings, whether they are from opposite or same sex. I am 100% believer in the saying 'Love is love' but what I believed as a preference does not always mean they are interested in participating in all different types of sexual activities. Do you get what I am saying? God I hope so because reviewing is not easy for anyone and as much as I want to tell you about the story, I like to express what I have experienced along the way.

If you have read Feat of Clay book four in The Men of London Series, you would have been introduced to Jax. He's a young man who has suffered greatly at the hands of his step brother, essentially leaving him with very little sight but this has not prevented him from living the life he has chosen for himself. He studies hard to achieve his goals. He has a wonderful personality, very loving and giving. The only thing Jax has never experienced is the love of another man.

Kildare aka Dare is a gorgeous man, well toned, sexy and has a heart of gold. There aren't many of these guys left in the world. He has watched Jax from afar and has become attracted to him, he has seen how kind he is to the children, watched how Jax goes about daily life. Okay so that may sound like stalking but I assure you he is harmless.

Dare has an opportunity to ask Jax for coffee wanting to know more about him but obviously Jax is reluctant. He is constantly doubting himself, asking why anyone would be interested in him. It breaks my heart that such a loving man thinks he will be forever on his own.

Jax has several challenges to overcome in this story. What is scary for most people is petrifying for Jax, having very little sight has many disadvantages that many of us would take for granted. Jax is loved by so many people in his life because of the person he is. The young man he has become.

Clay and Tate love Jax and whether he likes it or not these men will always look out for him. It's the most wonderful kind of friendship to have. Jax doesn't have any blood relatives to speak of but it doesn't have to be blood that makes a family.

This is a beautiful story and reminds me that there is always somebody out there for everyone.

This isn't like the other books in the series, but that doesn't mean it's a bad book. It's almost a New Adult story, considering Jax is only eighteen. It's a gentle story, and very sweet and romantic. I felt that this suited the character of Jax, considering his innocence and naivety. He's very inexperienced, but wants to begin to explore his sexuality. This could have been very a different book, if Dare had been written differently. He could easily have rushed Jax into sex, but he was very patient, often having to hold Jax back in his eagerness. Not a great deal of angst, just misunderstandings to overcome. It was good to see Clay and Tate again, I loved Tate's overprotectiveness where Jax was concerned. Nice read.

Oh Jax – what a wonderful character. Susan MacNicol has created another very satisfying Men in London tale where we get to know more about the damaged but inspiring Jackson Grady. He is young and driven and raring to discover whether he really likes men or not and oh boy does he find out. Dare appears in his life and goes on to make a huge impact in Jax’s sexual development. Their union evolves in a rather strange way but his is what makes the story intriguing. There are many facets to the plot line and I was thoroughly absorbed the entire time. I was happy that Tate and clay featured as their dynamic is such a great one; very entertaining. It was good to find out the extent of Jax’s injuries; how he came by them and how he copes on a daily basis. The author was sensitive but realistic and I laughed and cried at some of his trials and tribulations. Being that yesterday was the sunniest and hottest day of the year, I have Susan MacNicol to thank for my ridiculous tan lines - so totally caught up in Jax and Dare I never moved from start to finish! This book was well written, sexy, funny, entertaining and intriguing – loved it.

Whilst I really liked the characters of Dare and Jax I thought the story was the weakest in the series so far but non the less I still enjoyed the book.
