Lisa is the author of romantic suspense, Chancing Hope, legendary love story, Holder of the Horses, thrilling mystery, For the Garden, military fiction, Dead Alive, and true autobiography of a police canine, K9 Odin.

"The best things in life happen when you are willing to step outside of your safety bubble."

Lisa lives in Oregon with her husband, grown children, and numerous farm animals. Apart from family, she has two great passions.

The first, being an author of stories gifted to her from life, powerful inspiration, and imagination. She has become known for captivating her readers and has been accused on many occasions, that she’s caused them to burn too much of the midnight oil devouring every last word before dawn. If this were the case with you, she sends her apology (but is indeed quite ecstatic).

The second is horseback riding. If asked, she says her obsession with horses and endless desire to ride and compete didn’t spawn from any one event, but that she was born with it, pure and simple.

A BIT ABOUT ME

Hi readers!

As an author, there is nothing I find more exhilarating than encountering those remarkable moments when what I thought was “my story “develops, much like a child, and becomes a story of its own. Boldly tugging me along, luring me to chase after startling discoveries and uncovering rightful identities of yearning characters.

As a person, there is nothing I find more exhilarating than living in the actual moment and experiencing life all around and within me. I believe a good author knows how to write, but a great storyteller knows how to live.

Chancing Hope (Romantic Suspense) - Book Review Published June 2018

"This author is a MAGNIFICENTLY gifted story teller! This book was hard to put down and so I didn't! I used all of my spare time to immerse myself in the story and that was simply done because of the way this author used her flair with words to pull me in! I loved the symbolism with the animals and the people. It was not lost on me. The book is filled with descriptions of characters that were so real that I imagine I knew them. And believe me...the antagonist is not someone I WANT to know...AT ALL! The story is compelling and I actually found myself scooching to the edge of my seat more than once as I read on and on. At LEAST I didn't scream at the characters, out loud that is. I do wonder if there will be a sequel or even a movie script for this book. I'll follow her story telling career to find out!"

Holder of The Horses (Sweet Romance) - Book Review Published July 2019

"BEAUTIFUL The way this author has written these characters makes you feel like you are experiencing exactly what they are going through. I felt their sorrow and pain and cried right along with them. I never really knew how much it took to manage a ranch or the heartaches it could have but this book shows you just how hard and rewarding it is. This book also shows you about following your dreams, unconditional love, and what a family should be. I will always think of this story and smile when I see an eagle. Thank you for such a beautiful story."

For The Garden (Thriller / Mystery) NEW RELEASE Published May 2020

Years ago, the unimaginable murder of eleven-year-old Samuella Rose left Sarina Rose, her twin sister, in a downward spiral and plagued by nightmares. Fifteen years later - the case still wide open - the only way she has managed to keep her head above water is due to her attractive massage therapist, Duane Whitson, who she battles to keep at a distance, and Clyde Small, the detective who has never given up on combing every lead in search for justice. However, it’s her unlikely roommate, Becky Bracken, that introduces her to dream interpretation. But that’s not where the interpretation stops.

A cold shiver covered Becky’s arms and legs with goosebumps. This was beyond superstition or hoaxes. This was actually happening. Graver still, she suspected, Sarina had no idea.

Could Samuella really be communicating over the gap of death, beseeching for justice? Or is Sarina losing her grip on reality? Either way, finding the killer was worth the risk, but if she succeeded would anyone believe her?

What did she have to lose? Just her sanity. Maybe her life.

I loved this book from start to finish, so much so that I didn’t put it down.I’m definitely not an avid reader. I tend to get bored with the story if I’m not drawn in to the story line quickly. It’s very suspenseful with many plot twist.Another fabulous book by talented author Lisa Slater.I finished this book in a day during a rainy staycation with my fur babies, and I’m sad it’s over.

An intriguing murder mystery for sure. Twins seem to make any story more interesting. The two sisters in this story grab your attention and hold on relentlessly. As you begin to read the first few paragraphs you might very well say to yourself that you'll read a chapter of two and then clean the house, or perhaps start making dinner. Wrong!! Once you begin reading, you will want to continue. This story has a way of getting under your skin and into your thoughts. I absolutely did not want to go to sleep at night. I wanted to read more and more.
If you like to read a good mystery, this will fit the bill. Samuella and Sarina will consume your thoughts during the day and stay in your thoughts at night. I'm going to have a hard time finding the next book I'm going to read!

This story pulls you in from the very beginning, when a horrible crime is committed against a child. You wonder, “Who would do such a thing?” The murdered child had a twin sister, who eventually wants to learn more about what happened that night, and she confides in her closet friends that she is having dreams that seem to be related, and they wonder if the murdered child is trying to reach her from the grave to tell her what happened. The end is not what you expect, which again, keeps you glued to the book’s final revelation and conclusion.

Though not my typical genre I wanted to read this given the fact I know the author. The plot twists kept me wondering till the end which is always a good indicator for a mystery. Overall a well written novel that I highly recommend.

Lots of twists and turns in this story and even though I suspected the ending I wasn’t quite sure of it, right up to the last sentence. And I can’t help feeling that the victim deserved exactly what she got...which I suppose makes me a bad person.

By the fourth page, the author in a hasty fashion, deviates from 3rd person, as she poses a question (in parenthesis) directly to the reader. The question itself is completely off topic, baseless, and quite frankly, immature & goofy. There are rough shifts in between topics. However, the book is an easy read, as in, it does have excellent punctuation and grammar. Unfortunately, however, my extreme distaste for this title stems from the explicit ostentatious things that “come out of the bag,” per say, when the “private encounters” become more prevalent and start overriding the mystery towards the latter part of the book. For instances, when Becky (the main character’s roommate) comes home to a dark living room, that is currently occupied by Sarina (the main character) and her lover, the author begins giving extremely “provocative” details about HOW Becky “spooned” the ice cream in her mouth, that she had just purchased with the “off topic” hundred dollar tip a male customer left her at work. Now mind you, this is all occurring while Becky sits in the dark living room with the “playful” lovers. This trashy scene finally begins to conclude (or so I had thought) by Becky exiting the dark living room, but then Becky pauses going down the hall, just to explicitly tell the lovers how she needs check her batteries to assure they’re running strong in her *v....r* — all while she heads to her bedroom all alone — this was the pivotal point I was done reading this “mystery novel” turned porn! Although I had already wasted my time reading the majority of this mystery novel, given the dramatic shift to trashy porn occurred late, I no longer had interest in finding out whom was the killer, due to Sarina’s compromised character; as in, she was portrayed as reserved, serious, and modest; but yet, her reactions and comfort level with all the “intimate” exchanges towards the end of the book say otherwise.

1st person by engaging directly with the reader only by placing an off topic question in parentheses. Generally with published books unreliable narration has some kind of a purpose and is a facade that gradually diminishes revealing aspects of a character. Given the switch was not done tactfully and is off topic completely, it has the skill level of a good middle school writer.

& engaging directly with the reader, with a question put in parentheses with an off topic question that’s purpose bestows me.

to only then just as abruptly pick right back up in third person. the reader directly in 1st person narrative 3rd person question to the reader that I only can assume is a poor attempt to relate to the reader
