- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2016Follow Your Heart was an easy read and after I finished the book I felt as if I just went on vacation. The author takes her time describing things in unique ways and really puts you right in the moment visually. I liked the characters and was rooting for them throughout the story. The book forced me to slow down my own pace and take it in and take my time with it, which I appreciated. If you want a lovely, light-hearted book to give you a vacation from the hustle and bustle of your own life, this is the one! I enjoyed it!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2016This is a great light reading book, perfect for summer reading or just taking a break. The author is very descriptive and at times in the book I felt as if I were with Suzanne going with her on her adventure to St. Lucia. The writing was not overly-sentimental or unbelievable and I could feel myself getting pulled into the various emotional situations one could experience. I got hooked into the character early on in the book and found myself waiting to see what would happen next Definitely a fun reading book I'll share with my girlfriends!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2016Suzanne Styles has recently gone through a lot of changes in her life and decides to visit St Lucia in the Caribbean to try and gain some distance and perspective. She meets a mysterious man, Max, at the airport lounge bar, and later spots him again on the plane. In a series of coincidences, she gets to know Max, his friend Frankie and the twins, Candy and Brandy.
Follow Your Heart reads like a travelogue of the Caribbean and brings up images of sun-drenched beaches, rum cocktails and warm balmy days. The new friends go on a tour through the rain forest, go zip lining, take horse rides, and generally enjoy the island life while getting to know each other better.
At the center of the book is Suzanne’s relationship with her parents, especially her father. She writes to him in a journal every day, telling him about the places and the people around her. There is a poignancy about these interactions that is revealed later in the book when she tells her new friends her story.
There were a few minor issues I had with the reading experience. For instance, I would have loved to get to know the characters on a deeper level. There were also many minor characters that were described in such detail that it muddied the waters a bit. These were small things that distracted me, and may not be an issue for other readers, but I mention them for the sake of giving a complete and honest review.
I felt like the book was otherwise well written, with lots of island fun and a slow pace that would make a great holiday read. In the end, this is a story about self-discovery, healing from the difficulties life presents, and following your heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2016I have read this book twice already. Just could not put it down. I most likely will read it again while waiting for the next one and the next one and the next one. This book deserves 5 stars and then some. If you have not read it, you are missing out.
