Birth of the Vampire: The Journal of Kersey Avonwood (The Covenant Series) Kindle Edition
Before the dragon. Before the curse. There was a girl named Kersey.
Kersey Avonwood never wanted to be a legend. She was just a girl from a broken home, growing up in a world ruled by gods and shadows. Life was hard, but she fought to survive—fiercely, quietly, without expecting much in return.
Then came the war. And with it, the dragon.
Armed with nothing but courage and a lance, Kersey stood among the Ten—warriors chosen to slay a creature of myth. She didn’t expect to live, much less to become one of the most feared names in Mystyria. But victory didn’t bring peace. It brought betrayal.
The gods she trusted turned on her. The blood she shed cursed her. And the life she thought she’d fought for? It ended.
Or so it seemed.
Birth of the Vampire is the untold story of how a simple girl became a slayer, how a slayer became a curse, and how that curse changed the world forever. A dark, emotional prequel to the Covenant Trilogy—where immortality begins not with glory, but with grief.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2025Kersey!!!! Where to begin? Kersey is someone that you love and would love to hate for all that she gas done!!! BUT!!!! Then again you can’t really hate her because she is a product of what happened in her life!
I think I understand where she had been and why she has done the things she has done!!! I am content with how Mr. Mullins has ended her story! But I think he has more in his mind to put down on “paper “!!!! Let’s gear it for hour girl Mr. Mullins!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2019I literally just finished the book and I loved it! It even made me tear up at the end and we all know that means it's a good story. For those of you who don't know, this is a prequel depicting the life story of my favorite character of the series, Kersey Avonwood. Her existence before and after she was made vampire.
The take on these vampires are so interesting. They are born from more of a fantasy perspective and although Kersey becomes ruthless, she still has the light burning inside her from her human days...even if she doesn't realize it at first. I enjoyed every step of her journey from beginning to end. There is plenty of action and adventure to satisfy, not to mention heartfelt moments to pull you in.
Without giving too much away, there is a part near the end that is my absolute favorite. It sets Kersey on the path to her destiny, which I already know because I've read the other books and enjoyed them as well. 😉
So please heed my advice and read this series. It's bittersweet for me now that it is over. I wanted it to come full circle but I also didn't want it to end. However, I'm glad I experienced it and I'm sure you will be too!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2019Was intrigued as I've never read a vampire novel in a fantasy setting. A fantastical tale, character's you care about, I would definitely read more about this world.
