Hidden Princess: A YA Sleeping Beauty Retelling (Fairy Academy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 134 ratings

It's against the law for supernaturals to live in the human realm. Aurora knows that. What she doesn't know is she's one of them.

But a kiss changes everything…

When the fairy who cursed her offers a way out, she must decide whether to leave her best friends behind and join the Fairy Academy or finish out her days in the human realm until the curse takes her life.

Seems like there really isn’t a choice at all.

This is such a good book. It's a retelling of sleeping beauty. It is so good the main character aurora aka tory meets several supernatural beings. She finds out she isn't who she always thought she was. She has been cursed for something her parents did and the end could be deadly. This fun different retelling of sleeping beauty is so good and easy to read. Ending on a cliffhanger I would recommend having the next book lined up to read.

Living in the human world & thinking you're human are two things Rory find difficult to accept that she is NOT. She finds out a few months before her 18th birthday that she's a fairy. And, her aunt Lucretia cursed her to be killed through her heart that day. Read the series to find out what happens...
Minor issues for me with skipped words.

This is a modern Sleeping Beauty retelling that centers around Rory (Aurora), who is brought up by her 'aunts' in the human realm. After she shares her first kiss with her crush, Carson, things change for her. Rory learns she isn't human. There is more than one 'true love' for her. She is cursed to die. And she has to decide whom to trust to ensure she does not die...

A quick and easy read, with a lot of information crammed into this short read. I think that the execution could be a bit better and that there is a bit too much info dumping happening at times. If this first book is any indication, then there is a lot more of this world that can be explored and if the writing improves with the plot, then this will become an incredible series.

I really enjoyed reading Hidden Princess: A sleeping beauty reimagining by Rachelle workman. It has a modern cute spin to the original sleeping beauty fairytale. I can’t to read the next book in this collection.

I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up this book. It was fun to figure out that the characters were actually based off of Disney characters and that it was a fae Sleeping Beauty retelling. I just thought it was another fae academy book. But as the book went on, the story unfolded in more ways I couldn’t predict. I’m not going to give anything away, but I highly recommend the read. It was a lot of fun, and I got through it quickly. Not a dull moment.

From the opening page and the length of the "book" I expected it to be the opening of the book, with one or two more "books" to complete the story. That did not really bother me, but it seemed almost canned novel, just heat and eat! The writing was good. Very good, actually, but the editor relied on skimming it quickly and trusting spellcheck instead of the old boring and tedious fine tooth comb method-- and "principle" is not the same as "principal" even if they sound the same and both clear spelling software.

Nothing really grabbed me, but there were four or more methods of resolution, so I might spring for the next one. Or I might not.

Teenage girls are great, people discovering they are magical are interesting, and threats and danger add spice, but this just didn't get the recipe fine tuned enough to make me really, really, really want to know what happens next. It is interesting, but does not really break out of interesting to capturing my attention.

It earns a three out of five for being really good-- but not great, or really great, just kinda really good stuff on the page. I know where I would take the "front core" characters, and how I would resolve it, and I might come back to see where the author takes us, but this is a book for people who dote on this subject set, and I am not one of those people.

But it is interesting and fun-- particularly if you are younger, into fairies and alternate reality.
