- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2020Gladys sure has had it rather rough on the family side from her mother! Does it make her a better one? A mediocre one? Or one just trying to hold herself together? Did she make a mistake in her youth? Well of course she did! But don't we all?! Does she have to carry the burden forever? No! But she's going to have to talk, actually talk with her husband Ed. It's long overdue!!
Ed, loves his Irish lass! He doesn't see the gray hair..he doesn't see the crepey skin..he doesn't see the lines, the wrinkles where she shows her age...all he sees is the beautiful girl he married..And loves, even with her erratic, drink induced behavior! Will he still feel that way when Gladys spills the truth she's been secreting all these years? Perhaps, but we'll have to wait and see.
I enjoyed this, grab a cup of coffee, take a load off-get comfortable - you will too!--P/
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2019This was a good look into the life of Gladys' life. I wondered about her and her and Ed 's relationship was the way it was. This was eye opening.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2019This little story is a gem! It was like looking back into my teen years! It's about Gladys waking at her friends house after a party, she had had too much to drink, her marriage is on a rocky road, and her last is knocking on her memory door. It's a sweet, sad, loving, confusing time. A quick read, with a lunch in the heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2021It was my first read of the series "Pam of Babylon" it was a little confusing at the beginning trying to figure out the characters and how they were connected. This short story tells us about Gladys back in high school and her family dynamics. I am looking forward to reading the whole series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2022At this stage of the Pam of Babylon game every discerning reader knows this series is nothing more than a good old fashioned soap opera for those who would rather read than watch TV. All the characters are petty, narcissistic, and plainly tstl. Every one of them is selfish, judgemental, and gossiping backstabbers to the nth degree. Not a single one of these people consider monogamy important or faithfulness important. The trading of sexual partners, incest, adultery, and other betrayals are rampant throughout the series. Pam herself is a masochistic Pollyanna and it seems that every single person in her life is a user. It's apparent that she knows this, is hurt by it, yet continues to allow it. The family dynamics of this series is so over the top dysfunctional that I honestly can't justify reading it, except that it's the proverbial train wreck in writing. 🤷🏽♀️ Waiting for the next installment 😂

4.0 out of 5 stars Can be read seperate to series
While at times I did not know of the relationships within the book. I found that it did not matter. This was a story of a woman who had a past that no-one not even her husband suspected and that the relationship she had at this time was starting to break she needed to talk.
A well written story with characters that are easy to relate to, sympathise with and feel sorry for. A book that grew as it went on and showed a past that even I did not suspect was going to come about.
It really shows you, do not judge a book by its cover as you don't know what they have lived through or seen in their lifetime. Therefore their actions could be a result of them.
Well worth a read even as a short story on its own.
