Angling Bumateurs: Book 5 in the Sell the Pig trilogy Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 134 ratings

'I doubt my life has any vast sea changes ahead,' Tottie wrote in Book 4 of the Sell the Pig travel memoirs series. That book, Biff the Useless Mention, was always intended to be the final instalment of the popular travel memoirs series set in France's Auvergne region.

But then, one day, a big grey wolf DID come out of the forest.

Things were about to change dramatically for Tottie following a phone call. Her quiet and peaceful life in the Auvergne was going to be shaken up.

Will Tottie's familiar ironic humour help her through the difficulties facing her? As with all her exploits, Tottie leads you by the hand with a frankness and candour that will make you laugh and move you to tears in this, definitely the last, of the Sell the Pig series. 'Mother, mother, it's a bugger, sell the pig and buy me out.'

The last, that is, until readers began asking 'But what happened before the move to France? Where did it all begin? To which many of the answers are in Book 6 in the series, the retrospectively-written prequel, Trot On!

Review

'This book Angling Bumateurs is the 5th book in the Sell The Pig trilogy (yes I know).

As a rabid Francophile, I've enjoyed reading the previous books in this series very much and finished this one shortly before a French holiday. I've found the authors life in France really interesting and the books are well written. his book chronicles a difficult time in the author's life when her brother sadly dies.

As his executor and sole heir, Tottie is left with an administrative and domestic nightmare, clearing the house - always a difficult task for the bereaved but more so in this case. There is also a minefield of red tape and paperwork to be sorted out by the kind of professionals who would have been referred to as 'Angling Bumateurs' by Tottie's late brother, hence the title.

As in the previous books, this one is full of snippets about the author's life in the beautiful Auvergne region and written with her usual 'waspish' sense of self-effacing humour. A hard book to write I would imagine, and at times a sad one to read. Tottie also writes crime fiction novels under the name of L M Krier and it's no secret that I'm a huge fan of her novels and the fictional detective featured in them Ted Darling.' Book Blogger

'This is the final chapter of Tottie's brother's life in France. There are no right answers on how to deal with a much loved brother whose erratic behaviour causes much stress and worry but the worse was yet to come. Lesley Tither as Tottie Limejuice tells us how she dealt with the painfully sad aftermath but tells the story with her usual humour and dignity. ' Amazon Reviewer

'Is this the final chapter in the adventures of Tottie Limejuice, I do hope not! This is the 5th book in the Sell the pig series and is this the final chapter in the adventures of Tottie Limejuice, I do hope not! This book continues following the highs and lows of moving to rural France and yet again once started I couldn't put it down. Tottie writes with great humour even though this book is how she coped with the aftermath of the unexpected death of her erratic brother who was also living in France and yet again once started I couldn't put it down. Tottie writes with great humour even though this book is how she coped with the aftermath of the unexpected death of her erratic brother who was also living in France. I loved it and highly recommend the whole series.' Amazon customer

About L M Krier, also known as Tottie Limejuice

Retired journalist, freelance copywriter and copy editor Lesley Krier Tither writes crime fiction, the Ted Darling Crime Series, under the name L M Krier, as well as travel memoirs under the pen name of Tottie Limejuice. Most people now call her Tottie or Tots.

The Ted Darling crime books are set in Lesley's home-town, Stockport, on the edge of Greater Manchester. Books in the series: The First Time Ever, Baby's Got Blue Eyes, Two Little Boys, When I'm Old and Grey, Shut Up and Drive, Only the Lonely, Wild Thing, Walk On By, Preacher Man, Cry for the Bad Man, Where the Girls Are, Down Down Down, The Cuckoo is a Pretty Bird, Dirty Old Town, The End of the Line, It's Oh So Quiet, A Woman's Heart, No Way to Say Goodbye, Everybody Hurts Sometimes, Sweet Little Lies, and Not to Tell (22 books)

The First Time Ever is the retrospectively-written prequel to the series so can be read first or second. It is available translated into French under the title Darling.

Lesley is also the author of the dark crime fiction book, Looking for Lulu, under the pen name of Carl Granger. It came about because of a claim someone made that readers could always tell a woman writing as a man. Lesley took up the challenge - nobody guessed!

All books are available from Amazon (in most countries) in eBook and paperback format and the series prequel, The First Time Ever, is now available as an audiobook, read by professional voice artist Christopher Corcoran. None of Lesley's books include AI in any form.

Lesley is a former journalist, working as both a criminal court and coroner's court reporter. She also worked as a case tracker for the Crown Prosecution Service, and for a firm investigating irregularities in offshore finance. Her other jobs have included owning and running a holiday riding centre and acting as a 'charity mugger', lying in wait to sign up shoppers for a wildlife charity.

She secured her first major writing contract at the age of sixteen when she sold a television piece to a Hollywood production company, for what seemed at the time to be a fortune. Her newspaper editor father claimed it was more than he had ever been paid for a single piece of writing.

Her interests centre around nature and wildlife and encompass dogs, wild camping and organic gardening. She lives in the Auvergne region of Central France and holds dual French/British nationality. Her current dog is a rescued border collie, Rosie.

Writing as Tottie Limejuice, Lesley has also published six books in the Sell the Pig travel memoirs series: Sell the Pig, Is That Billinge Lump?, Mother Was It Worth It? Biff the Useless Mention, Angling Bumateurs, and Trot On!

She also writes humorous travelogues as Tottie Limejuice: the Tottie's Travels series: Hobbit House in Italy, Two Jills and a Tots, and Pride Comes Before a Bedbug. In addition she has produced a humorous look behind the scenes of novel writing, No Girl on this Train, jointly written with Kate Pill.

Lesley also writes children's fiction, mystery/adventure, as L M Kay: The Dog with the Golden Eyes, shortly being published in parallel French/English text, for learners of either languages, for ages 7+ - 70+.

So, we finally reach the end of the Sell The Pig trilogy with book five. Math was never Tottie's best subject. Concluding the story that should have been finished in book 4, after the unexpected death of her brother. A more subdued book, as you would expect, but still written with her usual humor. A good read, and definitely recommended.

I have read most of this author's works, including fiction. Well done, but I am not really a fiction reader. This memoir is right up my alley, and perhaps her best yet. Working through the death of her brother, she encounters legal, international, and other hassles which she turns into often- funny tales. The first in this series caught my heart and entertained me in the same way. I only hope she makes good on her hint that future memoirs await, of times prior to the series. It is well written, enjoyable, and meaningful.

Tottie delights us once again in this heartfelt memoir, the 5th installment in her Sell the Pig Trilogy. What? A trilogy is 3 you say? Well, what can we say? Life keeps happening, and in Tottie's case, predicaments occur which are simply too rich not to be shared with her loyal followers. She has such a talent for making us feel like she's an old friend writing a personal letter and catching us up on her latest adventures! We don't want to stop reading, and when we simply must do so, we hurry back to the book as quickly as we can. What a good writer she is! I will be sorry to see this 'trilogy' come to an end. Luckily she writes excellent crime/mystery novels, too, under the pen name of L. M. Krier (the Ted Darling series, with titles of song names), so I know I will happily be able to continue reading her books. You should, too!

It is with a touch of sadness that I have just finished the last book of the series. I have thoroughly enjoyed all five books in the "Sell The Pig" "trilogy". This book contains some very poignant moments; however, Tottie's sense of humour still prevails.

This book Angling Bumateurs is the 5th book in the Sell The Pig trilogy (yes I know).

As a rabid Francophile, I've enjoyed reading the previous books in this series very much and finished this one shortly before a French holiday. I've found the authors life in France really interesting and the books are well written. In the first book Tottie brings her elderly mother over to live in France believing and finding that the health care in France is so much

better. The house they live in was nicknamed The Pink House and Tottie's alcoholic brother also moved over from the UK to live with them.

In the subsequent books, after her mother's death, Tottie moves to another part of France and buys her own place, referred to by her as 'The Grottage'. Her brother stayed in The Pink House.

This book chronicles a difficult time in the author's life when her brother sadly dies.

Really enjoyed catching up with how things were developing in with Tottie in the Auvergne.Although they were sad circumstances that were behind this being written ,it was told in such a delightful way with Totties sense of the humour always coming through ,it must have been hard at times. I loved it and so happy to have read book 5 of the trilogy.I hope I picked up a hint of another one to follow it cannot be the last.!M.Hobbs..

‘Angling Bumateurs’ (brilliant title) brings us up to date with the recent traumatic events in Tottie’s life following the tragic death of her brother. He had remained in the Pink House which Tottie now refers to as HHOH (Hammer House of Horrors) As she is his only sister and executor of his estate she was faced with the complex and often unbelievably stressful task of sorting out his funeral and affairs. That was not the least of her worries because the job of clearing out the HHOH proved to be distressing in the extreme. It’s a testament to Tottie’s strength of character and sense of humour that she somehow managed to cope with everything. She deals with it all with such dignity and empathy trying to do what her brother would have wanted Sitting down with one of her books is a pleasure, although this one is a more difficult read given the events being described. As this is book 5 in the Sell the Pig Trilogy would it be too much to hope for a Number 6?
