Colleen's Claim (Westward Home and Hearts Mail-Order Brides Book 9) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 526 ratings

When Colleen O’Keefe receives a letter from her dying father, a Montana settler, along with a blood-stained deed to his mine, she resolves to hunt down his killer and claim his mine. Not having enough money to make the trip from New York, she applies with the Westward Home and Hearts Agency to become a mail-order bride, but who would want to marry a skinny, red-haired, Irish immigrant, sick from years of labor in the textile factory?

Matchmaker Milly Crenshaw, finds a way. Montana rancher, Quinn Mobley is perfect for any bride, except he’s part Indian, and all of Milly’s clients have rejected him outright for that reason. Colleen knows about prejudice, and she has no problem marrying a man with Indian blood. Besides, all she wants from Quinn is help in hunting down her father’s killer and claiming her mine.

Quinn wants more than a marriage of convenience, but he can’t let Colleen go into the lawless wilderness alone. Besides, he knows others lay claim to the mine, and they won’t hesitate to kill again.

I enjoy reading and writing Christian historical romances and inspirational commentary, golf, sewing, crocheting, knitting, politics, history, science and mathematics. I attend church regularly, and God is the center of my life. I'm proud of the good job my daughter is doing rearing my three wonderful grandchildren. God and my family make up the inner circle of my life, but I want to reach out with understanding and love to others.

Mail-order bride romances fascinate me. What circumstances would cause a woman to agree to marriage without having met the groom? I enjoyed Collin’s Claim because of the intriguing characters and the interesting setting. A touch of suspense adds mystery to the story.

Colleen O’Keefe has no money but wants to travel to Montana because she inherited her father’s mine. Agreeing to an arranged marriage allows her to travel west. Quinn Mobley wants to protect the Irish gal, but finds it difficult to keep her safe. Their road to mutual love is an interesting tale. Details of life on the frontier and of the hardships of mining for treasures make for a rich story. Throughly entertaining!

The more I read from this author the more she is becoming a favorite. She has a way with making a “same ol same ol” story be unique and fresh.
This one incorporates a murdered Dad miles and miles away from his very poor daughter. A mine claim he left her saying it had a precious treasure in it although other miners said it was dried up. Indians and their unsettling over white man being on their land with the mines. An old trapper, an Indian medicine woman that had been ran out of the tribe. A man who was half breed himself wanting what any man wants land and a wife and family to love.
Colleen learns from him to “turn toward the light” for survival in more than one way.
I enjoyed how this author included small things within the story to remind us Christian’s when we get “lost” or frustrated what to do.
This has no sexual references or language so I can recommend this book to anyone who wants a good inspirational book.

This was a very good book written by Elaine Manders and I enjoyed reading. A Young woman, a factory, coughing, quitting, a letter from Dad, death, mail order bride, a matchmaker, leaving, a young rancher, horses, their meeting, getting acquainted, moving to the ranch, a puppy, looking into Dads death, an Indian woman, will they find out who killed her Dad? Will there be a happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy the book and enjoy reading it.

I liked how this book goes from the impossible situation, to one of possibilities. It is not the usual predictable story, either. It has twists and turns to keep you wondering what the teal truth is. Only issue I had with it - it contradicts itself re Hawk's parentage. Apart from that, a good read.
