Bayou Cottage: A Small Town Friends to Lovers Second Chance Romance (Cypress Cove Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 351 ratings

He's going to fall in love, hard. She has a chip on her shoulder that might keep them apart. Maggie Angel accepts a chance of a lifetime when her aunt offers her the family’s dilapidated Bayou Cottage in the swamp at Cypress Cove. It’s the perfect place to run away to after her heart was broken.

The first night while she’s down at the road to lock the gate, a hunky guy on horseback steps out of the woods, but Maggie doesn’t recognize him. Turns out they were childhood playmates long ago during winter visits to her grandparents’ cottage.

Justin Chastain, local vet and wild horse advocate, heard through the grapevine that Maggie had returned to Cypress Cove and wanted to see her for himself. But he didn’t know that she was hiding from a failed marriage, leaving her with a big chip on her shoulder. It remains to be seen if she can ever trust again.

The chemistry Maggie senses fluctuates between lukewarm and molten, but for Justin, it’s constant and he’s falling in love, hard.

Then he unintentionally commits a blunder that Maggie will struggle to forgive, and they have to start all over again. Is there another chance at love for Maggie Angel? The Cypress Cove Series

I found this first book in the "Cypress Cove" series easy to read. Suzanne Jenkins skill with words created a picture of the place and animals in my imagination. The issue that I have with the story was that many of the details about the people were glossed over or not really explained. Since this book was the beginning of the series, it is possible that some of the details will be explained in future books. I liked the story well enough that I would be interested in the next one. Marnye Young's narration was fine. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Good story..quick read. A no brainer..pure dessert reading. Hope there will be a book 2.

This book started off good. I liked the idea of a fresh start in a small town and romance with an old childhood friend. The addition of the horses was a nice touch, but there really was no excitement; no suspense. This was a regular romance and everyone else in the book had a romance beginning, as well! The author could have put their stories in separate books. The main character’s relationship with the guy needed more development. It was skirted over and you could never tell how she felt about him from one minute to the next. It was a rush to “ I love you”. This story just needed more.

    Cottage

This book took me by my hand and heart to another place, a wonderful place, and I wish it were a real place so I could go there. I would sell everything and move there in a heartbeat.

Suzanne knows how to describe places, people and things, so that they are vivid and real. The characters, Maggie, Justin and all of the others were so wonderfully depicted and so real. I would love to know them all.

There is so much emotion in this story and I also loved the animal characters!

So don’t miss this story of love, rejection, angst and happiness all rolled into one big beautiful package

This is a feel good story about recovering from a broken heart. Maggie has moved to Bayou Cottage after her divorce to start a new life. Not sure what direction her life will take, but sure it won't involve a man. So to her surprise, she finds two handsome men who show jnterest. Justin is the local Vet and Steve is part owner of the hardware store. As her feelings for Justin grow, Maggie keeps putting up more barriers. Can she overcome her barriers or will they stop her from finding true happiness. Can she finally let go and find love , like her Aunt, best friend, and her mother. Or will she stay alone at her Bayou Cottage?

Just when you think everything in life is going your way, life happens. This story is about such an event, and when it includes your former best friend, let’s just say your life is going to change in ways you could never have imagined. This is a sweet, if not slower moving, story of recovery, forgiveness and trying to make a life forward. At times, the story was a little slower in the romance sense, but the end result was a great and believable story overall!

Exciting to have a new series. I had a hard time getting into the characters and the story. Maggie is the central character and I find myself not liking her. She feels flat and one dimensional. I am hoping the next book will make me like her more. The other characters are okay. Just sketches around Maggie.

Another great story by Suzanne. It is so well written it makes you feel you are there experiencing with them all the ups and downs. I read book three before this one so I knew they would make it. Still good reading.

Sorry to give this book a 3 star. The story started very well, then, the repetitions started and the heroine Maggie started acting like a drama Queen. Around chapter 12 is when I really decided that it was getting boring. I read it too the end but I’m sorry to say it was not for me.

Meh! Just OK. Didn’t really warm to the lead character, Maggie, to be honest she’s a bit whiny. It was just an OK read no real substance to it
