- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2020The story 'Rise up' by 'Author Brodie Whitburn' is a wonderful story to read, the characters are easy to become emotionally attached to, and the scenarios throughout the storyline are imaginative.
'Rise Up' creates underlying emotional meanings, and through the character relationship development is where human emotions are tapped into beyond the page.
This story is relatable, and enjoyable from start to end applying to various age groups.
I highly recommend, and I am looking forward to reading further publications by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2020I quite enjoyed reading Rise Up! It took me by surprise in more than a few places (though I won't go into details to avoid spoilers) and had a fantastic message. Whitburn gives quite an intriguing take on the physical form emotions take in the story that I found quite unique and engaging. I found myself most taken with Jessica and Torrie in the story, rooting for them both to have happy endings. I look forward to reading Whitburn's future books!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2020This wins in creativity! I was like wow when reading this. The characters are all amazing, and interesting to read from the moment you meet them in the book. I read this entire book in one day. Totally binge-worthy! I cannot wait for the next one! A major enjoyment from the beginning of the story until the end. The sisters share so much! Struggling through so much. It is so worth reading! Do it!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2020This book by far is one of my absolute favorite books that I have read this year. The character development is amazing, they are also relatable to the reader, and generally become your friends by the end of the book!
These two sisters struggle through battles that every person can relate to, at one time or another. It's raw, it's completely binge worthy, and you won't regret picking up this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars A unique blend of reality and fantasy with an important message.
There are few mediums which effectively reach the broad demographic that Brodie has with Rise Up. The themes and messages within this story are so important, and Brodie has presented them in such a way that speaks to adults, but can be understood by pre/young teens alike.
The overall plot itself is not particularly deep, but I don't say that as a bad thing (many timeless movies are plotless) because regardless, the story takes you on an adventure that weaves perfectly within reality and fantasy. Which brings me to what I really love most about this book, and that is the unique way in which Brodie has given us a story about two sisters and their imagination fueled adventures and then let us step into their minds so we can see what they see. During these fantastical moments is when we experience not only their creativity, but their mental health and social issues which bleed into their projections, and ultimately how they deal with them. It reminded me very much of Sucker Punch, only a more kid-friendly version.
I would recommend this book to pre/young teens and young adults. Though, because of the complexity of some themes, I'd recommend reading it yourself before giving it to anyone too young, just so you are prepared to have any conversations this book is bound to inspire, as I feel the Author intended.
