The Last Execution Kindle Edition
Homicide detective Leigh McBride's first assignment with the FBI brings her face-to-face with a past she's tried hard to forget. And when her temporary partner, a cynical ex-marine, lights a fire in her she thought long-extinguished, her darkest secret is threatened.
Scarred both physically and emotionally, Special Agent J. T. Noble is a man of few words. He prefers to keep people at a distance—until he meets Leigh. He's attracted to her strength and drawn in by her secrecy. But in their line of work, secrets can be deadly. When the killer they are hunting aims his vigilante justice at Leigh's past assailant, the fine line between right and wrong blurs. To heal the past—and find their future together—Leigh and J. T. must learn that only through trust and forgiveness can love grow.
The Last Execution has been rewritten, refreshed, and updated, and condensed from 97,000 to 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Ms. Romantic Reads says:
This was my second romantic suspense novel by Jerrie Alexander, and she is now one of my go-to authors for semi-creepy plots à la Criminal Minds with a side of sizzling romance. Her stories are usually told from multiple POVs, usually the hero, heroine and the villain, and I've found that I enjoy being able to see inside their minds. Not only do I feel more connected to the hero and heroine, but when the POV switches to the villain, you get chills just knowing what the main characters are going to eventually face. I highly recommend The Last Execution or The Green-Eyed Doll .

- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2013"The Last Execution" satisfied my love of suspense, mystery and passion. From the very first page to the last, I was enthralled with the story of Leigh, J.T., the sniper, and all the well-defined characters. I loved that Leigh wasn't a push-over. She stood her ground and was a strong, independent woman with human emotions and vulnerabilities. And J.T.'s character evolved so nicely and didn't turn into a sap. He remained a formidable force while allowing a small crack in his tough facade. Extremely well written characters.
The suspense was also great. The stories with Jason, Vick, Doyle--all made your skin crawl, but you couldn't help but keep reading because you wanted to know what would happen next. I saw the ending coming, but only after understanding their characters. I especially loved the format of the book. Instead of "chapters," it was divided into "times and dates." This paced the novel very well while letting the point-of-view to shift smoothly. It increased the suspense and made the situation seem all the more real and tangible.
I was highly impressed with this novel. The raw emotions, intensity and characters were brilliantly written and I also adored the passion and tenderness. It was the perfect mix to create a stunning novel. My only small complaint was that Leigh was never told what J.T. stood for--I thought it would've been a cute addition to the book. But other than that, I was thoroughly impressed and pleased with the book. I cannot wait to buy the other works from Jerrie Alexander. Kudos on a job well done!
Buy the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2016This was my first book by this author and I was quite pleased. I love Sandra Brown and Alexander although not quite as good as Brown weaves a good story line, with romance and sexual chemistry that keeps you turning the pages. I would read her again, the plot was well developed as were the characters in the story. I loved JT, his story was so intriguing as was Leigh's, especially her relationship with her son. It just touched your heart. There are two other storylines going on, the sniper who is killing off sexual abusers and Leigh's ex who wants custody of her son. Although you know who the sniper is it doesn't spoil the storyline, in fact makes more intriguing because he is right under their noses and they don't even know it. As for the custody battle again a good storyline that weaves right into the main plot of the sniper. Not wanting to give anything away but you are glad when her ex gets his. This really was a good book I think people will enjoy it and it will keep you up trying to get to the end. I look forward to reading another of her books.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2017I loved the storyline, it's development and telling. The characters were complex enough to be interesting,, believable and interesting enough to draw me to their causes. The relationships darted out slow, developed with strong reasoning. The thing I really enjoyed was seeing J.T. call into friendship then love with a 7 yr old boy as well as his new partner. Add in lust, respect and admiration and you have a great love story. The action held my interest to the point that bedtime was moved to late, late night. I recommend this book to any reader who likes to lose their self for awhile.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2017I haven't finished the book, so i really can't comment on the overall plot line, suspense matrix, or style.
I will say, to the author and the women who read this, the hero's response to her rape, especially being a cop, helps perpetuate the stigma of it.
Why she chooses to hide it, thinking others pity or condemnation will alter what happened is exactly why it keeps happening to women!
This character could have been a beacon, an ally, a voice for speaking the truth, yet the author thought it would improve the story if the character hid her darkest moments. As women, we need to speak of this. There is nothing to be ashamed of! We need more characters who step up and cope with rape in a monumentally heroic and healrhy way. Build plot lines around how a truly strong woman copes. Let them be inspiring. Let the dialog change from shame, fear, and negative self awareness, to telling it like it is, moment to moment, and letting go, moment to moment without thinking about what others are think about you, (us). Be upfront, tell your story. you may save someone from living it for themselves.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2013An interesting romantic suspense novel, where the balance between romance and suspense was well maintained.
The hero is an ex-marine who is now an FBI agent. He had a troubled childhood that left him emotionally scarred and his service in the military enhanced his already lonesome and introverted character by scarring him physically. However, he is absolutely devoted to his career in the agency and to the members of his team.
Leigh is a worthy counterpart to J.T. A terrible incident in her past has made her very secretive and protective of the people she loves (especially one person!). She is also devoted to her job and enters the scene as a liaison officer of the local police force and the FBI in the chase to arrest a sniper.
The story line was formulaic, however, there were well elaborated attempts to diversify the plot, which kept me entertained and riveted. I tend to agree with other reviewers who argued that there were just too many "good moments" in the book. However, I believe that these were well integrated in the plot and that the author made successful attempts to enrich the suspense part of the story.
If you are looking for an unusual suspense romance, then this is definitely your choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3,5 stars.
***
I read the book a couple of days go and the feeling I have is that the romance was nothing remarkable but the suspense was very attractive.
It has been a good story although it has not been anything out of this world. Interesting and risky the views that the author offers us, they made me think about what is right and what is wrong, what can be justified and what cannot. The line between good and evil is uncomfortably thin sometimes.
We have a heroine (Leigh) who knows what it is that someone steals your decisions and your dignity from you. She knows what it is to recover and succeed in spite of the prejudices of those who are unable to respect any opinion different from their own. I have loved this character. She has convinced me, and that is not easy.
The hero has not been so original but has been realistic. He also has a devastating past that defines him as a person. He has not managed to overcome it and the baggage he drags sometimes drowns him and does not let him live the present. But Leigh has strength and courage for both of them.
Then we have the point of view of the bad guy. It has not been novel, quite the contrary. Sometimes has been repetitive and tiring. The guy is a psycho. But the author gives us no more explanation than that he is so from birth.
And then we have the bold "executor 's" POV. It has been interesting, conflictive and brave. Because who would not feel identified with him? But then, there is that thing called conscience and our own perception of good and evil. I know perfectly well which side I would be in, but it is such a personal decision that I would rather leave it to myself. ;)
It is available in KU. I do not know if I should recommend it (I never recommend a book which I had given it less than 4 stars) but in this case I think I would make an exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book!
I loved this book. Fantastic characters and a very believable story. A lot of bad stuff has happened in Leigh's life but she gets on with it and moves forward. I don't know where to start with J.T. but, WOW!!! You must read this book if you like Romantic Thrillers. Not to be missed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok but predictable
Rather predictable, but nevertheless enjoyable.
Some of the descriptions of the romance was rather ridiculous, though. For example 'Heaven and hell converged at the juncture where their bodies joined.'
