It was supposed to be easy. It was supposed to be fun. It wasn’t supposed to involve Dragons or Mages...
Violet’s search for her biological parents was dead in the water. Turning over rocks only led to one roadblock after another. In a moment of frustration, she did what any girl would: she sent away her DNA in a kit to find answers. Little did she know, nothing was going to prepare her for where this family tree led.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2020After the tragic death of her adoptive parents, Violet searches for answers about her biological parents through a DNA test. A chance opportunity to be an intern on an archaeological dig sends her to the place where she might most likely find the answers, but mysteries abound when she arrives. Is she a reincarnated Mage? And what does that mean?
This was a story with a fun premise and lots of potential. Unfortunately, it read like a first draft where the bones of the story were laid out, but very little of the world was fleshed out. It felt like whole portions of the story were missing. There was so much opportunity to give this story depth, but it seemed like the author was just trying to hammering it out and quickly publish it. The overuse of the verb "smirked" and "snickered" didn't help.
It's a shame the writer didn't spend more time on world building as the characters were likeable and sympathetic.

4.0 out of 5 stars CHARMING STORY
The story starts off as a tale of Mages and Dragon Lords, with the story comprising traditional fairy-tale elements: a beautiful princess, heir to two thrones; treachery and greed; a desperate flight from war, and evil princes, accompanied by a faithful servant; and...magic... Then the story switches to the present. Violet is searching for her biological parents. She sends away her DNA for testing. She goes on an archaeological dig, and the two strands--and time periods--of the narrative begin to link up. No spoilers, but what will Violet discover about her origins, and herself? Really entertaining read.
