"The Curse of Dead Horse Canyon: Cheyenne Spirits" would not be as accurate and rich in detail regarding the Northern Cheyenne culture without the efforts of my co-author, Pete Risingsun. As an elder well-versed in his tribe's sacred traditions, he has a lifetime of experience serving as a spirit helper to medicine men during ceremonial sweat lodges. He made sure that the representation of these and other sacred rituals are correct.
From the start, this story had a life of its own. My original intent was to write a cozy mystery, but it didn't take long before it was no longer cozy, but saturated with conspiracy and intrigue. So much complexity emerged that it was clear it would take nothing short of a trilogy to complete. It was also apparent that I needed Pete's wisdom and insights, which added about 20,000 more words to the original manuscript.Pete and I have our work cut out for us writing the next two books, which promise to be at least as exciting as this one.

    Marcha Fox writes in a variety of genres from cross-cultural thrillers to hard science fiction and astrology. While raising six children she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Utah State University which resulted in a 21+ year career at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. When she retired she turned to writing full-time, which had always been her dream.

    Her most recent literary work is the cross-cultural trilogy, "The Dead Horse Canyon Saga," coauthored with Pete Risingsun. A masterful blend of modern day conspiracy thriller with Cheyenne history and cultural practices, the first two books collected a total of ten awards with the grand finale released in January 2025.

    Other fiction work includes "The Star Trails Tetralogy," a multi-volume STEM-friendly science fiction series designed for youth with an interest in science. The series is also available as audiobooks narrated by T.W. Ashworth.

    Much to the horror of her physics professors, she's a practicing professional astrologer with clients around the globe. She has written two full-length books on that subject, one for beginners and one about eclipses.

    She has a passion for feline fur babies and lives in an 1898 farmhouse on three acres in rural New York State, having previously lived in California, Utah, and Texas.

    "The Curse of the Dead Horse Canyon: Cheyenne Spirits" is a thrilling adventure full of mystery and knowledge. This is a longer read, but I didn't notice. I loved the Colorado setting and could relate to the mining details and the aftermath because I live in an old mining town. I've seen firsthand the damage it left behind. The characters immediately pulled me in, and I had empathy for Sara when she lost her husband, and almost her own life, in a car accident in a cursed area. Her memory of what occurred was gone, but that didn't stop her from trying to find the truth. Her husband's best friend Charlie starts a journey to unravel the mystery of what happened to his friend and exploring his culture. Although I loved both characters and their mutual support, Charlie was my favorite character and storyline. I have always had a deep interest in Native American Culture and the details and history, which would usually be too much in any other story, were perfect in this book. Sara's relationship with her father and stepmother was realistic, and I especially loved her stepmother introducing her to something new, which tied in nicely to what was going on. Sara and Charlie's love for Bryan pushed them into a world of greed and corruption. This is a riveting read, and it left a lot to resolve in the upcoming books, which makes me eager for their release. I highly recommend this!

    Having been interested in the Native American way of life for some time, The Curse of Deadhorse Canyon piqued my interest.

    Co-authored by Marcha Fox and Pete Risingsun (a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe), the book has elements of murder, a government conspiracy, greed, environmental issues, and Native American legends.

    The writing style of the authors drew me in, with many descriptive scenes that made me feel I was right with the characters. The plot is well-paced and keeps the reader in suspense. It was also educational (not in a boring way), and I learned several things about the Cheyenne culture. The development of the main characters, Sara Reynolds and Charlie Littlewolf, is realistic.

    All-in-all, this is a well-rounded story, both character and plot driven. It’s the first of a trilogy, and I look forward to the upcoming release of the second book.

    The book may be long, but the fascinating story kept me turning the pages. The storyline centers around the murder of Sara's husband, her search for answers, and the traditions, and beliefs of the Cheyenne people. Capitalistic greed and environmental issues are central parts of the plot.
    It is well-written with beautiful landscape descriptions, believable characters, and historical facts. I often was totally immersed in the characters, Sara and Charlie, experiencing all their emotions.
    I am looking forward to the next book from these two fine authors.

Partially because the characters come alive, but also because I wanted to know 'who dun it'. – In other words, who would be evil enough to willfully cause an accident with the intention of murder? The authors deal with several current issues, and mix in interesting things like Native American beliefs and astrology.
    Looking forward to reading more of this trilogy!

    I just finished this book last night and I woke this morning feeling empty...I did not want the book to end. It was a real page-turner and I resented every minute that kept me from its pages! I had so many different dimensions that I oftentimes has to stop and absorb the collective information. Fox's details not only had me in the story, but I felt Sara's confusion as well as her panic. Charlie took me into a comprehensive world--thinks to Pete Risingsun--that I'd only heard sketchy bits about before. Again, this is a true page-turner.
