Ghoulish Whisper (Paranormal Investigations Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 69 ratings

My name is Harriet Everly. I’m one-quarter ghoul and the goddess of love. Sort of. Yeah, it’s a crazy story.

As a paranormal investigator, I get my best work done when the sun goes down. My current client is Julia Hickrom. Her fiancé vanished without a trace. The police think he just got cold feet. But I have a hunch something of the paranormal persuasion took him or ate him. Either way, I’m hot on the trail and won’t stop until I find answers.

On top of that, my immortal boss has tasked me with bringing two people together. Romantically. It’s the twenty-first century. The goddess of love is no longer needed. But when the boss speaks, I have no choice except to listen. It doesn’t matter that it’s me he expects to find this love connection. Or that the man he thinks I’m meant to be with has been dead two hundred years.

Time to dig up a dead body. Okay, I’m kidding. We never found Dashel’s body. But maybe it is time to figure out what happened to him. _____If you enjoy BR Kingsolver and Sarra Cannon's amazing stories, then you're going to love this series! One-click and read today.

Good start to a new series. Harriet is one-sided ghoul and has a paranormal OK business. The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. I can't wait for the next book!

The first chapter alone starts with elements of mystery and creepiness, and this carries through the rest of the novel! Hired to find a missing man, Harriet must use her ghoulish powers to explore sinister spells and devious vampires. It has the tones of a classic hard-boiled detective story, but the supernatural twists keep it fresh and exciting.

A couple words of caution for those looking for a "clean" read, though. There is quite a bit of swearing throughout the book, and th main character seems quite promiscuous (except for the guy she has been hired to find, every guy that appears in more than one scene is one that she has had sex with). The book does seem a bit short for my tastes, too. Still, it is a fun read, and if this an example of Workman's style, I look forward to reading more!

It was also the fact that it was about a big dog. I prefer wolves but don't get me wrong it was still good in every way. Lol

Dnf. This started out good. I think I'm a tad bit confused how she was a agent at one time, knows about paranormals since she is one, yet when asked to look into vamps she has zero training and can't defend herself at all against them? Nothing like strapping tons of weapons on yourself to end up being completely useless? Then while in captivity she's just dreaming about the guy she use to love. It's like the poor guy she's seeing who is killed is pretty much chopped liver! She even thinks about him and her ex, and says, well I'm thinking more of the ex who left me, then the total sweetheart who the vampires just killed and throw his corpse in my cage. Dnf @ 27%

This was a new author for me but I am so glad I chose this book. The characters were great, story building excellent and it kept me gripped from the beginning. Can't wait for the next book now but I will be reading more of RaShelle's work as I love her style of writing.
