To Kiss a Lord (Ladies of the Night Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

Lord Robert Cresthaven took one look at the stunning Miss Clarissa Townsend and knew that she was destined to be his wife. The fact she doesn’t see her own self-worth makes him want to show her exactly how desirable she is. When they’re caught in a compromising position, things don’t go according to plan and his beautiful Clarissa is locked away.

Clarissa may not have fought for anything in her life, but she refuses to be sold to Madame Giselle or the disgusting Mr. Peterson. Just because she’s crippled, and now ruined, doesn’t mean that she can’t have the husband and family she’s always dreamt of. Escaping her family was easy enough, but convincing Lord Cresthaven that she loves him might be the hardest thing she’ll ever have to do. Because kissing Lord Cresthaven was the most wonderful thing she’d ever experienced, and Clarissa wants so much more from the handsome lord.

**NOTE: This novella has been recovered, expanded, and re-edited. It was originally released in 2014 under the same title but has been adapted for inclusion in the Ladies of the Night series and has new scenes.

Robert, Lord Cresthaven, and his two friends, Lords Victor and Gillian, had come to America with marriage on their minds. So far only Robert had found the woman he wanted to spend to rest of his life with. He’d watched Clarissa from the sidelines for several months before catching her alone in the library. He had hoped the kiss they shared would show her he cared for and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, beyond the fact of her limp.
Before he could speak of marriage to her father, they were caught kissing by a spiteful young Miss with her own eyes on him. Throughly displeased with her, Clarissa’s parents rushed her off, locked her away in her room and offered her to an elderly wealthy degenerate man.
Finding a means to save herself, she turns to Lord Cresthaven and his friends for help. This novella has just enough angst, spicy romance with a few less than honorable characters to be treat to read.

Clarissa has been seeking a husband but none seem to give her a second glance. Her limp is a distraction and a detriment to her parents. She would like to find a husband to raise a family but what man would want a lame wife. Lord Robert Cresthaven has taken a shine to Clarissa. He can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to marry her. When they are caught in a compromising position, things go from bad to worst. Her father plans to give her to a repulsive man. Will Robert step up?
I have to say I was not happy with Robert’s attitude. If he was so interesting in Clarissa, he sure didn’t fight for her with her parents. That part made me mad. Clarissa may have a lame leg but she shows strength and courage. I am glad for that. Robert’s friends are great and I was glad that they saw the beauty in Clarissa. How her parents were so cruel, I do not understand. Thank goodness for the Lord’s. I hope they all find someone.

I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Book one in the Ladies of the Night series a well written short story with a very good storyline. I want to read the next book. Miss Clarissa Townsend and Lord Robert Cresthaven's story that was some Father she had. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing how they get their happy ending.
