About the author

Anne Penn has been writing all of her life. Her interests are focused primarily on true stories. Penn has written 5 books about the Golden State Killer Cases to document possible murders that are still unsolved as cold cases in the State of California. A multi-generational native of Sacramento where the notorious East Area Rapist lived, the criminal was always in the Sacramento area not far from Anne and all of the women he harmed. That has been Ms. Penn's focus. Bringing answers to families who still wait for justice is part of why Ms. Penn put her research into book form.
Anne Penn's background is in Psychology, Criminal Justice and Addiction Specialties. A Certified Addiction Specialist she also obtained a degree in Addiction Studies. Anne is also a certified crisis & suicide prevention counselor & has also obtained a degree in Sociology and Addiction Studies. Anne has been interested in True Crime stories since she watched the aftermath of the assassination of John Kennedy unfold as a young child. There have been many high-profile crimes she has studied since 1968 when she was still a child. Senator Robert Kennedy, and next came the Manson Murders. The Zodiac Killer ran amok briefly when Anne was a child and she and her family were two hours away from his crimes.
Forensics and the psychology of why a person becomes a serial offender have been a huge interest while studying serial killer Theodore Bundy since 1980. Anne has studied everything she can about serial killers like BTK, Dahmer, Gacy and others over time. Also, a field of study is forensics. Anne had to share the connections she has to The East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker/Golden State Killer, originally hoping to help solve the case of EAR and GSK by asking those from her hometown of Sacramento if they thought the profile of the offender sounded like someone they might have known. Now after deep diving into what may have actually happened in the 58 years the Golden State Killer was free; her investigations have inspired her to write What If? Golden State Killer ZODIAC SOLVED. Next was End Game of The Most Dangerous Game Golden State Killer which discusses the fact that besides being a serial rapist this man was a prolific serial killer. End Game includes the politics of the time, geographic profiling which has always been an interest of Anne's. There is commentary and she shares the connections to the Zodiac Killer in this and her follow-up book. GSK was sentenced to life without parole August of 2020. Penn continued to investigate which then brought about the book Serial Slaughter Zodiac Killer (with Convicted Serial Killer Joseph DeAngelo) in 2021. This book shows the connections of the Golden State Killer to the Zodiac Killer. Penn shows how this perpetrator could in fact be the same man. A fascinating read. Penn has been a woman's/victims advocate all of her life. Penn is an advocate for victims of violent crime and believes that justice must prevail in these old cold cases. Many victims and victims' families still wait for justice. Great reads. annepenn.wordpress.com for her blog.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2020This serial killer has destroyed many families and his victims are many. I have followed the story over the years and what has been written about it by many. Each writing a uniqueness to their own view or experience through it personally or afar. What I enjoy in Anne Penn's books is the care and integrity of her work. She shares all of her years of experience and working on the finding of a killer. It is personal to her and it shows in the delicate care of each of her books. End Game was the best! May all of the victims and the family members feel justice. Anne makes me want to read more. You can't take away what she witnessed in the pain this man caused her and her family. It is interesting how uniquely murder affects each and every person in the family of a victim. She chose to make it her work and help others, to not allow it to define or destroy her character.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2020amateur with only speculation, jumps around, vents all kinds of hate of police going back decades, blames the police for everything since the beginning of time. yawn. bore. i want my money back. sorry iesdtef 10 minutes of my life on this mess. just hate filled speculation.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2020Ms. Penn has chronicled the rise and fall of the most monstrous serial killer imaginable during her relentless pursuit of the evidence, facts, and the truth. She is an unsung heroine for so many victims. A voice for the voiceless in her quest to identify and bring this brutal criminal to justice.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2020EXCELLENT READ, I RECOMEND IT.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2021I opened this book thinking...okay, we are going to wrap it all up. WRONG. And I don't mean that in a bad way. This book follows the chaotic timeline of Joseph De'angelo from his early years to the the courtroom. At the same time we look into all of the "other" cases that are not "part of the cannon". Just as JJD pled to a couple of rapes that seemed random when looking at the history of the case, this book shows that the long standing pattern of attacks, break-ins, theft as well as murder that clearly over lays the known GSK crimes.
Penn also turns a critical eye on some past police practices, rapes not treated as crimes as such. Many crimes that point towards members of law enforcement go un investigated or under investigated. A pattern that also over lays with the GSK known crimes.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a fuller view of the criminal activity at the time of the GSK crimes. With great sympathy towards the victims, both living and dead, and with just criticism of some law enforcement while singing the praise (rightly) of others. It really does make the perfect companion, not only to Penn's other books, but to any collection devoted to the Golden State Killer.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2022Anne's work continues to be awesome. I always look forward to her new books and like all the others, this one did not disappoint. Her writing style keeps your interest makes you want more! Hard to put down to grab a bite to eat. Having been in law enforcement going on 40 years, I probably read her books with a different interest than most people. Her work is very accurate and you can tell she puts a lot of time and effort into each paragraph. Can't wait for the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2021The author does an extensive detailed research and analysis of the psychological profiles of criminals who progress from burglary and other lesser crimes to become serial killers, Rapists, who prey on women. She does an excellent job of connecting the dots in the chapter on geographical profiling as to where they lived, worked and where the crimes were committed. The sociological and Psychological impact on society and in particular, the victims and families involved. She writes from the perspective one related to Lyman R. and Charlene Smith and the impact that these crimes have on women in having to always be alert, aware of their surroundings.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2021What a relief that this monster is finally behind bars. The book shows all the horror this man inflicted upon so many. Not just the victims but the family of the victims and those who lived in fear due to his numerous crimes. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in this particular criminals reign of terror but also to those who are interested in true crime stories.
