About the author

Em was born and brought up in the Central Belt of Scotland and still lives there. She was told as a child she had an overactive imagination--as if that is a bad thing. She's traded her dreams of owning her own island, just like George in the Famous Five to hoping to meet her own Mr Darcy one day. But her imagination remains the same.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2015I absolutely loved An American Cowboy in Scotland!! Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. I loved Ms Taylor's characters, Rhona and Cole. Rhona is a young woman who lives on an estate, which she is the manager of. She must tell her new boss that the estate is in ruins and there is no money left to fix anything. Cole is a sexy cowboy from Texas, with a few surprises of his own. He is interested in learning about his heritage and shows up in Scotland in full Highland regalia. Rhona is determined to help Cole but she has to fight the urge to keep her hands to herself. This book is laugh out loud funny and HOTT!! I loved the banter and easy conversation between Cole and Rhona. Em did a great job with this book. If you're a fan of cowboys and Scotland, I highly recommend this one! Thank you Ms Taylor for a wonderful book, I look forward to reading more!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2015It's a bit slow-moving, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I think I liked that Rhona and Cole didn't have any big angst or conflict... I'm tired of reading romances where the two main characters are attracted to each other but deny their feelings and keep pushing the other away, or have a lot of misunderstandings because they don't communicate well. There's none of that in this story. The lack of serious conflict also meant it wasn't such a gripping story, not the type of story where you absolutely can't put the book down because you NEED to know what's going to happen next. But it was sweet.
I enjoyed the banter between Cole and Rhona; their amusing conversations were the main thing driving the story, I think. The author writes dialogue well, which is very tricky to do. She handled the first-person narration very well, too (the story is told from Rhona's POV). I usually dread first-person narration because I've read too many books written in this POV where the narrator goes off into long internal monologues and info dumps, but this didn't happen in Rhona's case. I did feel that some parts of the story could be more detailed--did they ever find the missing bills? How did Cole manage to smooth things over with the local tradesmen?--but overall was quite satisfied with how things panned out. I liked that Cole never really stepped into the role of "boss" with Rhona. He never condescended to her, he took her teasing well, and he was willing to learn new things (being new to Scotland and all). I liked that it didn't even occur to Rhona to be intimidated by him even though he was rich and well-educated, while she was poor and had only completed high school. I liked that they fell in love by spending time together and getting to know each other. It wasn't only about physical attraction or lust.
I would recommend this book. It isn't mushy sort of romantic but it did leave me with a smile on my face. I might re-read it because I really enjoyed the snappy dialogue!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2017I really enjoyed this novel. It was fun and funny. There is a dog bath scene that made me laugh out loud! The plot is great and the characters are realistic. The banter between the characters is funny and rings true. Although it is a bit spicy, I will be looking for more of this author’s work!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2015Cole and Rhona begin as boss and employee, but one kiss is all it takes to change their relationship. While Cole, being an American, isn't feeling the love from the locals, Rhona is doing her best to make him feel welcome. The banter between them as they got to know one another made me smile and laugh. They were an ideal match for one another, both stubborn and passionate about Cole's manor and, thank God, too smart to back away from the attraction sizzling between them.
Fast paced, funny, and real, this is a story that many readers will lose themselves in if just for an hour or so. This is one those stories that just about anyone could love. Sweet and sensual collide with fire and passion. Cultural differences didn't matter in the end to Cole and Rhona because passion and love aren't bound by them. They exist in the heart, and Cole and Rhona's hearts were large enough to include each other.
My first book by Ms. Taylor and it won't be my last.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2016Lots of girl attitude and laughs made this a fun read, yet heartfelt for her lonely struggles. Having had a parent with Alzheimer's myself I know how devastating it can be for the family that isn't remembered. It's a struggle that can't be truely understood unless you live it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2015You can't take a cowboy out of the west :) This book made me laugh out loud as I read it. Hilarious and sexy rolled into one.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 ‘Hitting all the funny, honey’ stars!
Are you feeling a bit fed up?
Could you do with a giggle or two?
Partial to a hot cowboy?
Then behold; Em Taylor to the rescue!
I must confess that I nearly peed myself laughing reading this novella. I know, I know; TMI Laura, TMI. But you should all know me by now, lol.
The sexual chemistry between Cole and Rhona is immediate and I loved their banter. They had the whole ‘lost in translation’ thing down pat. Being Scottish myself, I loved the use of *coughs* certain Scottish euphemisms. Note to self: don’t drink any hot liquids when reading an Em Taylor romcom! Stop laughing, it hurt!
This novella was everything I could ask for in a quick read. Engaging characters, a touch of drama, love, laughter and heart!
And on that note, do a Rhona. Save a horse, ride a cowboy! *snorts*

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Romance Novel
A pleasant read for a lazy weekend. Rhona, an estate handler, meets and falls for Cole, a cowboy from Texas who has just inherited a ruined Scottish castle. Author Em Taylor uses her personal knowledge of Scotland to bring the characters and location to life.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read
This is not my usual genre, but I enjoyed reading it. Sometimes you need a book that isn't hard work, but makes you feel good, and this book fits the bill admirably.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great little book
This is a great little book!
Light-hearted, easy to read, and devoid of bland characters. I loved the regional quirks, the dry humour, and the quirky returns, and I laughed out loud when the hero and heroine were heckled in the street -- bring on the real-life coarseness! Before this book, I hadn't read a 'romance' for some time because I'd become well and truly bored but I'm now reading the sequel.
I will definitely look up this author when I want a fun story which doesn't make my brain ache!
