Em was born and brought up in the Central Belt of Scotland and still lives there. She was told as a child she had an overactive imagination--as if that is a bad thing. She's traded her dreams of owning her own island, just like George in the Famous Five to hoping to meet her own Mr Darcy one day. But her imagination remains the same.

Who wouldn’t want to kiss a totally dreamy man while he sleeps?
This is my first book by this author and, I totally had fun with this book. It was a short fun read.

Emily awakens the handsome Lord Beatty with a kiss. She is an absolute innocent character but, she does have her flaws by speaking out of turn and she is a bit clumsy. But she is quite the interesting character. Her being with Gideon was quite fun. She doesn’t have much faith in herself. She can be shy and thinks down about herself.

Gideon was asleep because of an accident he had. Right now his home country is suffering with the reins and there is no crops and everything is breaking down. He has an accident that causes him to lose consciousness for three weeks until Emily kisses him. Now he has to marry herBecause of the scandalous act that they were caught doing. On the journey, he learns more about her and she learns more about him.

And then the couple set off to Scotland to get married secretly. It’s a little adventure with them exploring their bodies and it can get quite steamy. We also learn a little about each other. They sometimes head into danger.

So the story is a little like sleeping beauty but with a steamy twist and the man being asleep. It was quite fun. I do wish it was a bit longer. But I had fun with it!

If you fancy an entertaining and charming Regency Romance then look no further than Sleeping Lord Beattie, the first book in a new series of books by Em Taylor based on the retelling of well- known fairy tales.
Sleeping Lord Beattie (Sleeping Beauty with a role reversal) is set during the cold winter of 1815-16, which is threatening to cause unrest and upheaval in the country due to the poor harvest. Gideon, Viscount Beattie, suffers a head injury and has lain asleep for weeks. His sister Sophie, fearing that her beloved brother is not long for this mortal realm, invites Emily her friend to visit for moral support.
Except that Emily goes above and beyond providing her friend with moral support… It is not long before the fun and mayhem begin! Emily is drawn to the bedside of the sleeping lord and on a whim kisses him, her impulsive action awakening the sleeping Viscount! However, her actions are witnessed and Emily is compromised and risks ruination. it is fortunate that Gideon, a gentleman through and through (although a damn sexy one to boot) does the honourable thing and proposes to this woman whom he has never seen before…
The scene is set for a hugely enjoyable romp with a super hero and heroine. I loved the unconventional character of Emily – she is so unlike the sensible and simpering misses that frequent many a Regency Romance. Outspoken, clumsy and accident-prone her family despairs that she will ever find a suitor. And Gideon – he is soon drawn to the strange chit who had the temerity to kiss him. He finds her increasingly more fascinating, and as they are thrown together he has his work cut out to keep her wayward actions and thoughts in line without compromising her more fully! I enjoyed their sexual tension, their banter and the humour that this writer injects into her stories, as well as the sexy lovemaking scenes!
The tale, which also contains scandalised relatives (including an angry uncle), an elopement and desperate highwaymen, is an absolute pleasure to read and I recommed it to fans of the genre.

This is a cute take on Sleeping Beauty in reverse. I am not a huge fan of historical romance but was intrigued with the story line and was looking forward to reading this book. I was not disappointed, this is a fun romance story of Viscount Beattie who had an accident and hit his head leaving him sleeping (coma) for three weeks not waking up until the outspoken and impulsive Lady Emily kisses him. Now to save her honor he has to marry her. The trip to elope is an interesting one that has some fun, a little suspense and some steamy scenes. This is a good read overall and would recommend it.

From the beginning of the book I was intrigued as to how the story was going to play out given that there is a slight take on a well known fairy tale. In my opinion it worked perfectly, Emily wakens Gideon with a kiss and this sets them off in a path that neither of them expected they would have to take. Coach travel, highwaymen and brothers threatening to commit murder were only a few of the situations that the couple found themselves in. Brilliant 5 star book and I can't wait to read more of The Contrary Fairy Tales by this author.

I’m not usually a fan of regency romances, but this book was absolutely delightful. Delightful because when it is complete it leaves you with a smile and a warm heart. The book has humor thrown in that helps make these characters more relatable. Gideon and Emily were easily likeable and the tension was built between the two until it leapt off the pages. I highly recommend this book.

Sleeping Lord Beattie by Em Taylor

A sweet romance commences when Lady Emily kisses an unconscious Lord Beattie. This is a delightful, quick read story with old fashioned English. Once I had started this story, I cancelled my plans for the day, stayed in bed and read it until the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely written, entertaining

Absolutely charming! What a refreshing book to read, in fact, I'm looking forward to this whole series now that I've read this one. Nicely written, entertaining, light-hearted and different. The author captures the Regency period very well and I really did feel I was back there in 'the year with no summer' - full of rain and gloom and hungry people.

Also, Em Taylor would have to be one of only a handful of authors writing stories in her own homeland, another plus, because she has everything about the UK captured perfectly - including the character's speech and etiquette - and the H/h actually travel many days in their carriage to get anywhere significant. Yes there's lots of 'steam' and romance in this book and written beautifully as well. You can feel the attraction between Emily and Gideon from the beginning.

I liked the premise - confident hero with a wallflower heroine and she kisses him to save him - the story is sweet and definitely sexy !!!

The plot around the heroine could use a little more development as she comes across as two different characters - but the contradiction adds to the story !

Steam Level : Oral and open lovemaking scenes ( multiple)

I've read most of Em Taylors work and she's one of the only regency authors I read. Like all of her other regency stories, Lord Beattie is light hearted, funny in places, and well written. You can tell the author likes writing this genre.
At the beginning, I didn't think I was going to like Lady Emily, but once the story really started I warmed to her. She was quite entertaining.
It is an enjoyable read if you like regency books.

It has been quite a while since the author has written a Regency book and with the first book in this new series, she really does not disappoint at all. She has come back with a bang and more! It is like she has never stopped writing Regency at all! This new take on fairy tales makes it even more of a fantastic story as it works so well. I really cannot wait for book 2.
