    Ricochet, a new ménage romance from author Candice Wright - Technically a standalone, but you may see some names you recognize from her Underestimated series. Reading them isn’t necessary to enjoy & understand the happenings in this book, but it would add to the experience - and it’s a fantastic series!

    I’ve already read this twice, and I still have not fully recovered! Wright dang near broke me with this one!

    I’ve read a lot of Wright’s work, and she has a tendency to twist you up as a reader & put her characters through some stuff, but she outdid herself with Viddy & the others in Ricochet. I will say please heed the trigger warnings for sexual abuse - while this book is amazing, it does touch on some seriously tough topics.

    From the very first chapter Wright broke my heart (a recurring theme for this book) & made me cry, but within the next few chapters Viddy emerged as one of my favorite characters of hers. Viddy experiences horrid acts that no child ever should, battles through hellish circumstances, overcoming obstacle after obstacle to come out the other side. She’s my favorite type of FMC - a b@dd@ss in her own right with questionable morals by societal standards, but despite existing within the shades of gray in a B&W world, she has a big heart & is fiercely protective of those she calls her own.

    Ricochet produces some serious feels throughout, along with angst & sexual tension for daaaaays - though I will say the romance takes a bit of a backseat until towards the end, with the focus more on Viddy and her tale of survival & fight to come out on top. Wright’s excellent storytelling, paired with twists & turns, gut wrenching, raw emotion, and the character depth within these pages make it one you won’t want to miss.

    The plot twists were amazing (yes, you read that right, TWISTS with an S!!)
    Usually, I'm fairly decent at figuring out the plot twist. Nope, not in this one! I was shocked as each one was revealed. I cried, I shouted, I laughed, and I even wanted to throw my Kindle a time or two.

    Let me start by saying that Candice Wright gives life to the most amazing, unique, strong heroines. Nothing about her heroines or books could be called cookie cutter.

    This book knocked my socks off. I've been anticipating another great book from her and once again she truly delivered. She surpassed my hopes although it wasn't quite what I expected.

    Pros:
    * character development was well done with complex individuals
    * plot was unpredictable and had exciting twists and turns
    * lots of suspense

    Cons:
    * it isn't really a romance novel as described

    I was drawn into Ricochet from the very first page. Viddy was complex; she worked through terrible situations in remarkable ways. She was strong, smart and clever.

    All of the characters in the book had real depth that made them seem to come alive. Most of the characters were bad guys to one degree or another. They existed in gray areas instead of simply black and white.

    The plot twists kept making me pause to catch my breath. Nothing about this book was predictable. I found myself reading faster and faster because I could hardly wait to find out what would happen next.

    My only disappointment is that I wouldn't call it a romance novel. I felt like this ended up being about action, intrigue and suspense rather than romance. When I looked at how Amazon ranked it my feelings were confirmed. As of October 2020, Amazon has it highly ranked in three genres, none of which are romance: City Life Fiction, Vigilante Justice and Organized Crime.

    I expected this to be a fast burn M/F/M story. We didn’t even know who she would choose for her first love interest until the book was more than 80% complete. I would normally be discouraged from reading a book based on that, but it had so much going for it in other ways that I was still happy overall. As much as I like this book I had to deduct a star because it wasn't a particularly romantic novel.

    I highly recommend this book. It's full of surprises and the suspense will keep you deeply absorbed in the story. Ricochet was a very entertaining read and I look forward to reading it again soon.

The angst and chaos at times was almost too much to take in. At times I cried hard. Especially when Viddy reveals what Clyde did to her and the letters she wrote to Drake broke my heart for the young girl who wrote them. I cannot say enough about this book. It was just so exciting, there was always something going on. Viddy's character may be small but she is definitely mighty. This book was so explosive I couldn't get enough and didn't want to put it down, I devoured it in one day. I really wasn't sure about Jude and Kai at first. Their characters are the kind you love to hate and hate to love and by the end I did love them. I loved every minute of this book and I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!!

    This book was amazing! I stayed up until 5am to finish it. I couldn't put it down! Viddy is such an awesome character. She is strong, caring, kind, but will take out anyone who messes with her family. I love how she made her district safe and alive again. She didn't want anything bad happening there. Reid put me on edge. I wasn't sure about him. I always felt he had 2 personalities. I was so curious to see if Will or Cash would be her 2nd. Surprise! I felt bad for Grim. Im glad everything worked out though .Definitely read this book! It will pull you in from the beginning.

    I love strong FMC as well as strong storyline. My only grouse is that if I am reading romance then I need the lover/s and a romantic story. The actual love story never really starts. At about 60% we are introduced to a storyline that has some semblance of being a romance. This book is the story about the life of Vida, her journey from Vida to Gemini. Somewhere we are introduced to the 2 men who she claims she loves (I call it a claim coz we never really see that love developing) all we ever see is distrust and manipulation. So why did I still give it 4 star. Candice story telling skills keep you gripped wanting to know more. Plus it's important to know this story to be able to get the right experience of the underestimated series.

    This is SUCH a good book. This author never fails to hold me hostage from page 1 to the very last page. I never fail to read the book in one day because I simply can’t stop. This book is no different.

    This book is a spin off from the Underestimated Series, in particular the second book, Princess of Chaos, which was about Meghan. This book introduces us to Viddy through Meghan’s, whom she rescues from a bad situation on the streets. Already having experienced horrors beyond most people’s imagining, Viddy at age 15 saves Meghan and puts herself on the radar of a gangster who forces her become a runner for him. At age 21 she’s inducted into the gang’s hierarchy and she’s forced to find a way to make it free from his grasp.

    I love how this book isn’t about an innocent young woman, it’s about a young woman who lost her innocence well before the start of this story. She is ruthless and capable to squashing her fears to get through her terror until it’s safe to let go. She is intelligent and strong and kills without remorse. She’s also kind and loyal to the core and will always stand up for those who need protecting. Viddy is a fantastic character and I loved joining her on the journey she takes through this book.

    As always this author crafts a complex and riveting plot that grabs hold with both hands and won’t let go. It’s gripping, dark and sill manages to be hopeful at the same time. The story is technically an MFM but there is little romance until towards the end of the book and it’s difficult to see who will be in the ménage at the end of the day. The men that Viddy are close to are fantastic and I’m hoping those that don’t make it into her relationship have their own books in the future because they are fascinating too.

    You don’t need to read the book that this connects to, in order to understand this book, but you should read the whole Underestimated Series, regardless, but it’s really good and you’ll enjoy it. If you don’t then you’ll really enjoy this book on it’s own.

    This book was stunning!!! I was hooked from the very first page. Viddy was everything, I haven't fallen this hard for an FMC in long time, and for a stand alone there was amazing character development.
    Would I have liked this book to be a series, hell yes! I would loves for there to be more time for some of the other characters and I want MORE! But it was perfect as a standalone. The pace kept my interest, there wasn't too much time for mushy I love you's and repetitive sex scenes**. Each scene was purposeful and quality. I wasn't left feeling like I needed more from these characters to be satisfied.
    ** If you are looking for explosive, multiple sex scenes, M/M, or deep romance this isn't the book BUT I loved that the FMC's whole world didn't revolve around a relationship. There is plenty of action/drama, a great twist and dark humour to keep you entertained!
    5 stars and the only book that has held my interest in weeks!
