Ashbury creates a unique perspective on fantasy characters. The book is perfect if you're looking for something light and enjoyable to read. The story isn't convoluted and the writing style is not overly complicated. I would have loved more character development as well as more about the history of the characters and their relationships prior to the beginning of the story, and I hope to see this in the next book. Overall I enjoyed reading this and would recommend it.

I have been a werewolf fan since I was a child. I have seen, heard, and read many stories that depicted the mythical creature in what I thought was every way possible. Ashbury has a new take on the age old myths and legends. The cast is composed of werewolves, vampires, dragons, skin walkers, humans and more. I love the main character, Jule, a werewolf. I can't say too much about the story without giving away too much. (I love the relationship that Jule develops with William.) I stayed on the edge of my seat and actually gasped again and again as I followed Jule and her group of friends into a world I could have never imagined. It's like The Vampire Diaries, An American Werewolf in London, and authors like Stephen King or the horror novels of Anne Rice, all rolled into one story. If you like stories with werewolves, I think you would enjoy this tale of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal with great characters and an amazing plot. I highly recommend this book.

I never know what to say in reviews, but I'll do my best here.

Let's start with what I liked about the novel:

    1. I liked the idea of creatures in the form of humans with their true nature waiting to be unlocked.

    2. I liked the main cast of characters and felt like Jule, William, and Loki were very fleshed out.

    3. I liked the blend of different mythologies and cultures. It feels very C. S. LEWIS.

    4. I enjoyed the few action/fight scenes. I thought they were well done.

    What I didnt like:

    1. Although Jule, William, and Loki were fleshed out, many of the other characters werent. This made some of the character deaths less impactful to me since we didnt get much time with those characters.

    2. This next one is a purely subjective thing: I would have changed some things in the plot. I felt like there were some missed opportunities in some spots (I dont want to post spoilers) for some interesting character dynamics.

    How the author can improve:

    1. There were some odd word choices. Places where she could have used some really wonderful words or places where the wording could have been more succinct.

    2. There were a few grammar issues, but not enough for me to really care that much. Then again, I read alot of Robert E. Howard and his stuff is riddled with spelling errors and I still find it enjoyable. I think the important thing is, did the author communicate what they wanted? If the answer is yes, then they succeeded in my book (pun intended)

All in all, a very decent purchase. I hope Heather keeps writing!

This story grabs you at the onset and deals out it’s excitement early, generously, and throughout. I’m a fan of reading and writing from mythology and More Than Human is rife with it. I’m not ashamed to admit I learned a thing or two from this story with regard to eastern myths.
There’s romance, intrigue, humanity, and thrills layered upon one another to make this book one that you won’t put down until you reach the back cover.

I really hope Ashbury plans to expand this story into a series because there's so much more to explore here. Great read and can't wait for more.

After reading this amazing book for my own enjoyment, I found myself pleasantly satisfied. The word choice is great and I could picture every detail. The mature language is used appropriately and not gratuitous which I appreciate. The details are handled well and reads easily. The violent scenes are overly gory and nothing added for pure shock value. I really enjoyed the book overall and it left me wondering if their would be a sequel. Excellent, satisfied customer here!

I try to read at least one indie author a week and I was not disappointed in myself for picking this book! It was a good mix of action and Exposition. The characters were believable, and there was a lot of what one looks for in the urban fantasy genre without being a repeat of the same stuff we've all read before.

Be nice to yourself and spend an afternoon with this book!
