4.8 out of 5 stars 25 ratings

After chasing a butterfly through the jungle, Gibby suddenly finds herself very far from her family and lost. Using her courage, confidence, and some clever teamwork, Gibby makes new friends on her quest to find her way home to the Frilly-Fig Tree. It was interesting learning a little bit about this small ape, the Gibbon and its friends in the jungle. Love any book that teaches our little ones a little more about nature and our world. Lyrical text great for 7-10 year olds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gibby belongs on your bookshelf
Reviewed in Canada on March 2, 2021
My daughter really loves the story in this book. She has been reading it for years now and this was one of her first books that she started reading to us on her own. Recently, we revisited this and when I asked her what her favourite things about the book were she still had quite a few. First, my daughter still loves the scavenger hunt throughout the book looking for Gibby’s handprint. Even though she has mastered where they all are, she will still make a point to pause and touch the handprint with her finger. Sometimes its a competition to see who can spot it the fastest when we are reading together. She also likes that even though Gibby gets lost, other animals of different backgrounds come to help and that each one is friendly and has a unique way of helping Gibby. She is at an age where she is learning her friends come from all different backgrounds, shapes and sizes so I think she was able to relate this book to her personal experiences. Finally, my daughter loves the rhyming and even sings the book to a little tune when she is reading it. For a new reader I think the vocabulary will be easy to pick up but for the more seasoned little reader (grade 3) the rhyming and story itself are still entertaining. That alone will make this book last on your child’s bookshelf for years.

As a parent, I love the message of friendship in this book and the determination of little Gibby. The book is a great display of teamwork and problem solving which are great messages for my little one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sent me and my kids on an adventure! Something for everyone.

I have three young kids (under 8) and I was looking for a family book my kids could connect with and enjoy reading. My son read this to his younger sisters. He loves animals and now wants to take our next vacation to South East Asia to visit Gibby and friends ! My youngest daughter loved the rhyming in this book and my other daughter was focused on finding the 8 handprints hidden in this book. I like this book because it has something for everyone and keeps you engaged the whole time. The compassion goes beyond the animal friends working together for greater good and branches out to show environmental issues posing risks in our world today. Amazing read for kids and adults - sent us on an exploratory adventure in a jungle . Can't wait for part 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and educational!

We (parents and 7 year old) love this book! We got it a couple of years ago, love Gibby's adventure through the jungle and how she meets other species who help her along the way. It's awesome to read about the actual species who would live in the jungle with gibbons, which ones would be considered dangerous by gibbons and what food gibbons actually eat. Also love finding the little footprints as an added activity while reading.

A fun and exciting adventure travelling through the jungle with Gibby. Jackie explains some of the everyday challenges Gibby faces in her natural habitat while making the book fun and entertaining for students. It opened up great conversations about predators and how humans can effect habitats of animals both positively and negatively. A must for Grade 2 Science in Ontario!

We loved this story! Gibby found herself away from home and making friends along the way. Curiosity and the passion to explore the unknown are key components in this tale. Anyone looking to expand their child’s world to include this interactive adventure, this is for you. Fantastic illustrations lend imagination and wonder to this story of friendship.
