- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2023This story is perfect for a bedtime tale. It brings in the idea of the moon and earth, friendship, and inclusion (because differences aren't as drastic as they might appear). It's positive message will leave you and your child with a sense of peace and calm; hope and joy.
I know this author is an educator who uses repetitive stances to help children learn to read. It is a brilliant tactic that aids with sight-reading. This is a great book for young readers just developing these skills.
The illustrations are wonderful. They reflect the night sky, with The Moonling protagonist peeking out. I love how she reveals her face in phases (as the real moon does) while she reveals who she is and how she is like earthlings. What a great way to tie the ideas together in a visual way.
I recommend this book. It is sweet and a good match for young readers, particular those in the elementary school level (ages 4 to 10). It would make a wonderful choice for book reports.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2016What a sweet and timeless story! I look forward to reading it to my grand daughter as we gaze at the moon. The Little Girl in the Moon teaches us to see others from different places and know that we all have the same dreams and desires. The illustrations are beautiful. I love the way that Diann Floyd Boehm chose the different phases of the moon to capture the face and desires of the little girl.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2016This book is such a great book a mother can read with her child over and over again at bedtime. My 9 and 15 year old daughter and I read this book at bedtime every night. They love it!
Great book to share with a child to let them know that to be different is not to be wrong! To not be accepted for this differences is...
My family and I are eagerly awaiting to see what Ms. Diann Floyd Boehm will publish next.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2016An enchanting book which is a bit different. I love the idea that there is a little girl up there watching over and wanting to connect with us. It has such an innocence and purity about it. It has some of the most beautiful illustrations I have ever seen in a childrens' book.... A lovely present for children - and adults! - to go to sleep with and have lovely dreams! I look forward to the next story!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2021This is a sweet story about a little "Moonling" girl who wants more moonbeams sent to earth so more of the Earthling children's wishes can come true. As I read this book, I was so distracted by the wonderful illustrations that I had to read the story again to appreciate its beauty, too. On some levels, the story feels a bit too mature for the children it is intended for, but on another, that makes it really work. It has a simple message, but there are layers, creating room for new understandings and meanings to be found with each reading. Beneath the surface of this simple story is one of incredible generosity, compassion, and empowerment. I think kids will enjoy hearing this book over and over as they absorb the pictures.
