Editorial Reviews

Review

  • "Jake Shepherd is the latest private investigator cum lawyer that may well soon find his rightful place in the canon of literary sleuths. . . . Offending people is his gift, but so is reading suspects like a restaurant menu, as well as exuding a James Bondish charm that appeals to women." - Vincent Dublado for Readers' Favorite
  • "Be warned - this is an exceptional, captivating read. . . . The two main characters, Jake and Scarlett, are intriguing. The dialogue between them is sharp and witty . . ." - Deborah Lloyd for Readers' Favorite"
  • "Loved it! A good mystery has good characters. I think that is the strength in this semi-legal whodunit. A story with a former FBI agent turned PI with a divorce lawyer trying to uncover the truth on a very messy murder found a place in my reading home. In other words, I want to read more of this author's works." - Rebecca Graf ( author of Wring a Book Review) for Reedsy.com
  • "Capitol Murder is a thrilling start to the Shepherd & Associates series. I was hooked from the first page and just couldn't put the book down. . . . I had an absolute blast reading Capitol Murder and look forward to reading more books from the series." - Pikasho Deko for Readers' Favorite
  • "This is a well-crafted crime seasoned with romance, written in prose that is top-notch and featuring rock-solid characters. . . . Judith Erwin writes expertly and enriches her writing with frequent doses of wit and humor. I can't wait to discover more about the characters in the next books in the series." - Grace Masso for Readers' Favorite
  • "Brimming with suspense and containing a hint of romance, Capitol Murder (Shepherd and Associates Series Book 1) by Judith Erwin is a sensational murder mystery. Beautifully written, the novel contains a riveting plot, a captivating storyline, appealing characters, and several twists and turns winding throughout the storyline. It is an extraordinary mystery novel that will captivate and entertain everyone who relishes suspenseful murder mysteries." Susan Sewell for Readers' Favorite

From the Author

Capitol Murder is my first book in the Shepherd & Associates Series of crime-solving mysteries with sexual tension but not the first time readers have met Jake Shepherd--a one-of-a-kind PI with no time for social graces but with phenomenal skills, Jake has been one of my favorite characters to get to know. In The Ballet and The Studio, he came on the scene to help the protagonists achieve their goals with shades of his personality and audacity. In Capitol Murder, he is full-out--puzzling, captivating, and annoying Scarlett Kavanagh while she assists in his investigation of the murder of her brother-in-law. Adding spice to Jake's role is his relationship with his ex-wife's husband, his former FBI supervisor--a relationship Jake takes full advantage of without apology. I encourage readers to visit my web site (juditherwinofficialwebsite.com), subscribe, and read "The Vow," a short story revealing some of Jake's foundation. I hope you enjoy the sexy PI with a Simon Cowell-Gregory House personality and will continue to follow him in his next book, currently in progress, Faith Lost.

Liked the main characters. I figured out early who the perpetrator was. Something about that person just wasn't correct. I disliked the intimate relationship between the 2 main characters, it
    wasn't necessary for the storyline.
